  • Truly beautiful! Impressed that you got a run in ( and yoga) after a hard lifting workout! Did you find that you were less sore?
  • So my plan is to run tomorrow right after work. If I go home, I become a couch potato...and noooooo exercise. I only ran 4 miles the other day, but my quads are sore, as if I had done heavy weight leg presses. It's crazy how deconditioned one can get. Also I am going to get serious with sticking to my calorie goals. I…
  • You should read it! It is very good. I haven't finished it yet. But he is from Appalachia and it has a serious drug issue (as does many areas of this country) and poverty. His mom is a nurse who becomes an addict. He is raised by his grandparents. Knowing his background, you would never have aspirations beyond working in a…
  • Not true! I have been reading several non-fiction books. One is called the "Hillbilly Elegy" about a man who overcomes his environment to attend an ivy league college and become an attorney. The one that I am reading now is about Steve Young. I was always curious why he stayed so long in a back-up role behind Joe Montana…
  • Hi everyone, I am going to try again for 40 miles this month. I fell short in February due to getting sick the last 2 weeks of February (sinus infection). I also feel deconditioned due to not being able to run very much in January or February. Very sad due to having weather in the 50's and 60's but not able to take…
  • I enjoyed your race recap, esp the part where you were the pacer for someone else. I thought it was cool that you were able to finish after rolling your ankles. Kudos to you! Keep up the good work!
  • The weather has been really great in Indy...lots of rain, but temps in the 40's and 50's. However, I have been struck with a sinus infection, which I googled...it's supposed to last 7-10 days. 2 more days to go minimum. I hate that I can't or shouldn't run. errrrgh! Now I have laryngitis. I am supposed to go to work…
  • That is so cool!!!!!!!!!!
  • Is that a cookie monster in your profile pic? I have days like that too. One day won't derail you. I will try to eat something sweet every day...so that I can resist binging on large amounts of sweets. Even if you eat over 1000 calories more than daily goal, it won't derail you if the other days, you have been consistent.
  • You need to develop some good habits. Try tracking every day, weighing your foods....just do it for one week. Don't even worry about a calorie goal at first...just try to see how many calories you eat per day. Then put your numbers in mfp....shoot for a pound a week loss...so that you are really not giving up much in way…
  • 2 runs completed this week, and already eclipsed January's total. 2/4....5 miles run outdoors...29 degrees. This is the coldest weather I have ever run in. There were snow flurries but no accumulation. My ankle felt okay. Going to try to build on it. 2/6...7.18 miles on the treadmill. It was totally boring. I worked at…
  • Ha Ha.....11 pages behind already. I finished January at 7.64 miles.....just couldn't get any more done. Ankle hurts at rest but not walking or running. So I suspect arthritis. This month I am going to shoot for 40 miles with a mix of treadmill and outdoor running. That darn groundhog saw its shadow....um I don't get it…
  • It looks like a lot of fun. I think that there is a half in the summer at Eagle Creek. I thought about running it because I am nocturnal anyway. I wonder if it is the same course. Have you run the Geist Half? I think that it is in May. It is a beautiful course around the reservoir.
  • Finally getting a chance to post. Ran outdoors on January 22 for 4 miles. It felt great...so much easier than on a treadmill. I have to admit that it was unseasonably warm that day...in the 50's. My ankle felt the same afterward. I have a stretch of days off from work...so going to try to get an x-ray of my ankle then. I…
  • Wow! A Half? At night? In Indy? In the winter? Were there a lot of participants? It looked crowded for the event. You certainly had better temps than had it been held the previous weekend, but still pretty chilly esp at night. Congrats! You are really strong and determined!
  • My first post for January....only 80 pages behind. I was able to run on the treadmill January 17th for 3.64 miles. I can tell that my ankle injury is really a set-back. I am pretty sure that there is arthritis in that ankle now, because it just throbs at night and it is difficult to sleep at times.I have been rubbing…
  • yes, when I started losing weight....friends and family would make comments like....your face looks thinner. WTH! I wasn't trying to lose weight from my face, but the belly was the last to see results. I agree with monthly measurements and well as weighing on the scale. Also you should feel your clothes fitting differently…
  • Hi kirsty, I am sending you a friend request. I have been logging for 5 years, and have kept 45 pounds off, ( lost 12 pounds before finding this site). Consistency in logging every day is the most important aspect. My diary is open. (Don't look at yesterday). I too have tried fad diets and virtually any quick weight loss…
  • I tested my ankle on Wednesday and ran 2 miles outdoors on the trail. It did okay. My run wasn't that fast (for me)...13 minute miles. No pain but toward the end a lot of cartilage popping. My total for the month is 10.65 miles. It is snowing today...so probably run a little on the treadmill and lift weights the rest of…
  • @amymoreorless My ankle looks like yours only more purple. I tried to stand on it when it was numb and I buckled, but you have inspired me to go to the doctor rather than self-diagnosing myself. I am still going to work, using a high-top rebok shoe, and it has been helping keep it stable. However 12 hours on my feet are…
  • I feel the same way most of the time. I usually can't run faster than 12 minute miles, and then someone posts that he/she ran a slow 10:30 mile.
  • Ha, Ha....that made me LOL! What some people will do to be "published". Quite seriously, I hope that this is the answer for you. You have dealt with a lot of injuries. Will try to catch up with reading posts this weekend.
  • Has anyone ever seen George Carlin's stand-up about owning houses just to store our "stuff"? I love this thread. I need to get rid of my stuff too. I have too much and it is so hard to let go.
  • I think that my tally for the month is 8.65 miles. So I am still at 8.65 miles. I sprained my ankle on Sunday. So I am trying to do the right thing...ice, rest, elevation....rest! I didn't even do it running. No I was recovering from working the previous night shift and watching the Colts vs the Bills...a real nail biter…
  • Wow! I love this picture. It would look great framed and over someone's fireplace mantel in the living room.
  • 3.65 miles on the "dreadmill" last night. I didn't have music..so I watched part of the Thursday night football game. 12:14 pace. I think that my tally for the month is 8.65 miles. My nurse friend was vindicated yesterday. I didn't get all of the details due to being at the gym. Thanks to all who posted suggestions for…
  • Half the time, I don't meet my monthly goals, but usually I get close. And if I don't make them, there is next month. I agree with mixing running and walking and not starting out too fast. Also running is the only "me" time that most of us get. For me, it is a way to unwind, listen to music, commune with nature, clear my…
  • Ugh...don't like running in the rain either. Is it getting your feet wet that's the worst part or is it all of it? I love the snow though.
  • Hi everyone, I started running this month outdoors. Yesterday 5 miles at the trail in Broad Ripple. I really started feeling great after 4 miles but darkness was setting in. I ran the last 1.5 miles in the dark. It was 60 degrees yesterday. I ran in a strong headwind the first 1/2 mile. Then I didn't notice the weather…
  • I only completed 15 miles in November and was mostly absent in the November thread. All of my December miles in 2016 were on the treadmill. This month I would like to complete at least 50% of my miles outdoors. My goal will be 40 miles due to the holidays impinging on some of my plans.
