  • Originally, my goal was to be in the middle of my healthy BMI range which is about 135lbs (pretty much go there this week). But a few months ago, I adjusted my goal weight to be a little lower to 133lbs to give myself a little cushion for a bad day/week. I understand how you feel about wanting to lose more though. I saw a…
  • Well, for one you aren't eating enough. The typical body goes into starvation mode below 1200 Cal a day and you haven't been over that for the last 3-4 days. You are drinking plenty water so it shouldn't be water weight. I would eat a bit more. You might see the weight increase for a little while before you start losing…
  • Oops, was looking at two threads at once and posted to the wrong one. I like to workout late in the day too, easier to find parking for one. I am pretty regular with working out everyday so I plan my calories ahead. My calorie goal (net) is also around 1500 so I am willing to go down to net 1200 Cal if I just plain don't…
  • Hmm, it's hard to lose inches in a target area without losing overall, which takes time. I know you know this already. To get there in a week, perhaps a body shaper garment might help along with some of the food/exercise advice from others here?
  • I've been sore in all placed on my back, but mostly exercise soreness that is usually gone in 3-4 days. I hit the sauna after my workouts and stay in there for a good 30 mins. I also do my stretching in there while my muscles are all warm. A good back massage definitely helps if you can get a friend or a masseuse to do it.…
  • I love days when I get done and there are still a couple hundred Cals to play with. Usually that's when I break out the almond butter or nutella and experiment with new combinations. Or how about a fruit smoothie? I love mango lassi which I make at home with half a cup of yogurt and one mango-- about 250 Cal. Unless you've…
  • I find that if I keep water handy especially at times/places where I'll be thristy, I have very little trouble wanting to drink at least 8 cups a day. I have several bottles on my car which I often drink as I drive home from the gym. I also have a 32 oz nalgene bottle by my bed and I drink that when I wake up feeling all…

  • It really depends on what part of the cheeseburger makes it a cheeseburger to you. For example, my bf must have a real burger bun and not the sandwich thins. I don't like the big fluffy bun much so I replace it with orowheat sandwich thins (100 Cal each). Leaner beef patty is a great place to cut calories in fat (save…
  • I remember being so out of shape I was breathing too hard to speak after walking up 3 flights of stairs at normal people speed. Yet I've never been beyond healthy BMI. It takes work and a whole lot of patience with yourself. Remember the hardest subject you learned in school, that's what your body is doing and you gotta be…
  • 1500 net cals sound very reasonable to me. That means you adjust how much you eat depending on how much you workout. That means you eat back your exercise cals. When you enter your exercise, MFP will adjust your 'goal' calories for you so that your net (total) is 1500. My net cals are also set at 1500 and I'm closer to my…
  • The water idea is probably best. People tend to have a hard time distinguishing between "I'm hungry" and "I'm thirsty" so that feeling of wanting to eat more might be your body wanting water, especially if you have been eating salty foods. Having paid more attention to this, I noticed that I actually am thirsty often and…
  • It looks like the max # of meal labels you can have is 6. I've seen people put in time ranges like midnight-6am, 6am-noon, noon-4pm, etc to cover all 24hrs.
  • That's 5lbs in about 2 weeks. That's a bit fast unless you are very overweight. I would consult a nutritionist or your doctor to make a good weight loss plan. And I'm having a hard time understanding your description in that first paragraph. Is 1200 Cal your total or net? What do you mean with the working out and "there…
  • Almonds... or any nut you like. Banana (high cal for fruits at least) Egg, great source of protein
  • Lost 18 lbs so far and went from a size 10 to 8, no one who didn't already know I was trying to lose weight have commented at all. I'm still waiting, but I love the energy and the clothes I can wear now. Just trying on clothes w/o buying at the store is super fun.
  • When I started losing, I did 1.5 lb a week and it was fine. As I got closer to my goal weight, I slowed down as recommended. It depends on how far from your goal weight you are. My personal opinion is that if you are within your healthy BMI range and just teetering on the high end (like I was), then 1.5 a week is a…
  • Great insight! I love that since I started changing my eating/exercise habits, I'm learning all these things about myself that I wouldn't have paid attention to before. I have late night munchies too, but it seems to be a timing thing (after midnight, I might be a gremlin) rather than a dealing with food thing. I've bee…
  • Each day you spend a total amount of calories for bodily functions and to do your daily activities (we'll call this the basic amount of calories). Imagine that the amount of those calories determine the size of a gas tank on a car. That means if you exercise, the tank gets bigger. That means you have to put in the basic…
  • Thanks for posting! I completely agree and I can't seem to convince the many people who don't believe in eating back their exercise calories. I've kind of given up trying to convince them. I'm super glad that you understand though and the others on this thread are supportive. I think maybe the non-believers just need to…
  • String cheese is pretty high in calcium for about 80 Cal, you can get low-fat which is about 10-20 Cal less than the reg. Plain yogurt is also good for calcium w/o the extra sugar. I like tart foods so yogurt is great. Fiber One original bran cereal is another option with no sugar (but still tastes mildly sweet to me) and…

  • Yes, talk to a professional. We can cheer you on and share your joy, but you should not be taking health information from us.
  • Thanks for sharing Shawn! That's helpful to know with the details. I'm probably going to have a mix of morning and evening workouts just because of my work schedule. Now I know I need to plan ahead more on morning workout days. Thanks again!
  • For me, running is more work than most any other exercise so those numbers look reasonable to me. You might want to invest in a heart rate monitor that will more accurately tell you your calories burned.
  • I did have breakfast before my workout-- oatmeal, soft boiled egg and coffee. I think you are right. I haven't been preparing snacks (nuts, fruits, veggies). Maybe that's even more important with morning workouts.
  • Being sick is rough. I was out with strep/flu (not sure which but was sure a high fever...) last week and all my bad eating habits came back. I had a bag of chips everyday (good thing I only had small bags), I didn't log (too damned tired and sore), I ate what was in the fridge and pre-packaged foods (didn't want to go get…

  • Speaking of apples, I LOVE granny smith apples. I noticed when I logged my apples that g.smith seem to be a little more caloric than other "sweeter" apples like fuji or pink lady. I'm not sure, but I suspect there's more sugar in the g.smith to balance the tartness. Food can be so non-intuitive sometimes. :grumble: Oh if…

  • I would agree with veggies being filling and low cal-- I got for steamed broccoli often, and stir fry napa cabbage with a spicy sauce. The spice helps me slow down my eating, drink more water as I eat, and makes the food more filling. I love fruits too and I found you have to choose the right fruit. Initially I went for…

  • Great job on working it! I had a similar experience-- I'm terrible at self-discipline and I would eat or exercise as I pleased and I also thought calorie counters were dumb (I still think that a little since I get a bit dumb counting), but it was the discipline I needed. I couldn't do it myself, but this little…
  • Do these friends know you are trying to lose weight? Because they should be supportive and not egging you on. If you aren't comfortable telling everyone, maybe have one or two you trust and tell them. I don't like to tell people so I just have my bf who is very supportive about going to the gym with me sometimes or bravely…

  • Thanks for sharing your recipes! I just created my own after looking at various recipes online and modifying it for my tastes. I used fiber one cereal-- half original bran and half honey clusters (my first experience with crispy marshmallow treats was with corn flakes rather than crisped rice, so I'm partial to flakes). I…
