  • Much better to over-estimate than under-estimate. I do it all the time haha.
  • Apparently everyone reacts to each pill differently, so if you ask if many people have gained weight from a certain pill, you will always have some people say yes and others day no, but it won't be any indication of your own possible reactions to it. I hope this helps :)
  • Eat breakfast as your largest meal of the day :) the above commentor quoted a great diet tip: breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper.
  • I'm nor sure, so I'm just going venture a guess... it could POSSIBLY be a symptom of detox. If you were eating unhealthy (high sodium, high fat & processed) foods and are now eating cleaner, more natural foods, it's possible that the toxins are escaping through your breath and leaving a yucky taste in your mouth (which…
  • I'd try these things: - Adding some berries (frozen is fine) to your oatmeal - Making you sandwich with loads of veggies - try spinach, tomato, cucumber, grated carrot and beet, capsicum/peppers and some sprouts - If you're not having the sandwich, try to make a side salad to accompany the tuna, or at least have celery +…
  • I drink warm water or green tea - it makes you feel full and distracts you.
  • I wouldn't recommend really sweetening green tea (unless you genuinley cannot drink it without, in which case use a bit of honey) as it basically defeats the purpose of drinking it. I don't like it strong, so I remove the teabag after 30 - 60 secs. Green tea contains caffeine too, so try drinking Decaf - it doesn't affect…
  • It can take a couple of months to get into a good diet routine - and sometimes longer after that, if you continue to adjust and improve your meals to get the maximum health benefits as you learn more about nutrition and your body. Posting more 'notes' here won't help you (I assume you've already read hundreds of these!),…
  • I'm 5'2 and aim for about 1000 - 1100 cals a day. Don't feel 'bad' for eating less - each body is different. Some people need less because of size, activity level, what type of foods they eat, and even how effectively they metabolise/take nutrients from their food. I get a bit incensed when I read posts like "under 1200 is…
  • Many people believe your body actually craves the magnesium and iron found in chocolate (I find this to be true), but the cocoa in chocolate bars is too low-quality and processed to actually contain decent amounts of these minerals (which explains why you keep wanting more!) That's why I use raw, organic cacao, because…
  • Azdak- I'm interested to hear why you think it's a cruddy workout (personally I don't think it has nearly enough cardio, but other than that seems fine). I don't know that much about fitness, just enough to get me by. Instead of hijacking this thread, perhaps you could PM me? Thanks in advance for indulging my curiosity :)
  • ^^ That is a ridiculous thing to say. You cannot take one number and apply it to every single person. Also, the term 'starvation mode' is thrown around far too much and doesn't happen nearly as frequently or effectivley as you've been led to believe. I'd be surprised if the average human body began to 'shut down'…
  • Iron absorption is enhanced by the presence of vitamin c - so make a smoothie with spinach, strawberries (very high in vit c) and bananas, or try stir-frying some kale or silverbeet with garlic, pepper, healthy salt (orgnaic Himalayan rock salt) and lemon juice for the vit c.
  • I'm not a raw foodist myself, but I've read extensivley about the raw vegan 80/10/10 diet, and what I have to say is this: some people thrive off it, other people don't. Try it and find out!. Give it 21 - 30 days and see how you feel. Your body might run optimally on a low fat diet, it might not. Here's a link…
  • I wrote a post about vitamins on my other blog. I don't mean to self-promote, but it's rather a lot of information to post into a forum. The link is there if you're interested in reading it :) http://skinnyminnie11.wordpress.com/2010/12/03/vitamins-should-you-be-taking-them/
  • I don't use any detox 'products'. Try a salt water flush, and eating mostly raw fruits and veggies. Exercise is also great for flushing out toxins as we can literally sweat them out. Good luck!
  • I would also recommend baked kale chips and microwave-popped, butterless, saltless popcorn. You can also make your own crisps by getting a tortilla (multigrain!), cutting it into crisp-size pieces, sprinkling on some Moroccan seasoning (or whatever you like) and baking/grilling until crispy. I use these for my special…
  • Log it as 'Circuit Training' under cardio. :)
  • Swimming is another good option, and if you have some cash to spare, you could get a rebounder/mini trampoline as they are also fairly low impact. Adjust workouts to what you can handle. The first few times I did the 30 Day Shred I didn't use weights and went easy on the push ups - I just knew I couldn't handle the upper…
  • Great idea! You could also try adding in a little cardio. Maybe 50 - 200 jumping jacks (depending on how fit your are, just work your way up!), butt kicks, jog in place, or jump rope (which you can do without a rope!)
  • I go for the occasional barefoot run. I have noticed if I go too fast or too far my ankles are a little sore the next day - but it's never too bad as I don't wear shoes very often. Is there much of a difference between Vibrams and going totally barefoot?
  • The first time I did the 30 day shred I knew my arms would be sore for days, so I didn't used weights at all and went easy on the pushups. You can modify workouts to suit yourself, and this gets easier the more you get to know your body's limits and potential. If you ever want to give the 30 Day Shred another go, feel free…
  • I actually posted one on my blog not long ago! It's healthier and lower in cals than quiche as it doesn't have a crust (and you needn't oil the dish either). Ingredients: - 3 or 4 eggs - 1/2 cup low-fat milk/soy milk - 2 Tbls flour (I’m sure it can be plain or self-raising, although I used plain - also optional) - Any…
  • distract myself by exercising, cleaning, drinking some green tea or water. the only think i crave is chocolate and cookies, and as cookies are a no-no for me, i indulge in some dark chocolate or make my own chocolate concoction (raw organic cacao mixed with honey and 100% natural peanut butter - this is actually quite…
  • with the no substitutions thing - i would just lie and say i had a slight allergy to something. for eg, just tell the waiter you're sensitive to dairy, and it would really help you out if they could take out the cheese and butter and lessen the amount of creamy dressing. saying your sensitive to it is better than saying…
  • ashley- you're right. it does (almost) defeat the purpose. the best thing to do is to set a daily calorie limit, and a daily exercise goal (let's say 1200 cals and 30 mins exercise). then, if for some reason or another you exercise more on a certain day - let's say you do 90 mins instead of 30 - and your body needs the…
