  • Why would you doubt that? There's no such thing as 'starvation mode'. Your metabolism slows down as you lower caloric intake. It's not as though we can be 'in' and 'out' of starvation mode.
  • People have different opinions on this, but I think as long as you're eating often enough to keep your metabolism up then it's fine (5+ meals/snacks a day). If you find you're consistently falling a couple hundred calories below your target, then it might be time to lower your target! And if you're short, this thread might…
  • I read somewhere that while 1lb of fat is 3500cals, 1lb of muscle is 600 cals. Sorry I can't give a more detailed answer!
  • Oh, and I forgot to say Interval Training! That's widely considered to be the best workout for fat-blasting. Work your way up and do it every second day :)
  • I don't think there is any 'best cardio', just whatever gets your heart rate up the most. Most people would probably say either running or rebounding (mini trampolining) You could try using this website to compare different exercises: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc Hope that helps!
  • In the previous posts in this thread, we included some links to websites that calculate it. There's loads of different calorie calculators all over the internet, some are 'food diary' type place like myfitnesspal, others just calculate using your weight etc.
  • oh, and i forgot to add you can roast carrots all on their own, with no oil or seasoning. they're super versatile :) i like to roast them & serve with a salad. you can usually buy large bags of carrots for a couple of dollars.
  • i would think that because the mini trampolines have taughter springs (at least the good quality ones do) and don't 'bounce' you as much as the larger backyard trampolines, you'd get a better workout. less time in the air, and less time sinking into the trampoline means more time tensing your muscles & working out your…
  • exactly. one number doesn't fit us all :)
  • alright, so 11 x 5 = 55. that's 55 cals for 5 minutes. and im assuming that this 11cals/min doesn't factor in your specific weight? im sorry, i don't mean to be a downer but it sounds too good to be true. 97 cals is very, very high for 5 mins of working out. it also has nothing to do with the 11cals/min amount your…
  • - always have a salad on the side - cook as many meals as you can
  • try buying loads of frozen veggies when they're on sale - that way you can just steam them (in microwave or one stove) for dinner :) for the sugar cravings, try and eat fruit instead. bananas work wonders! as for the icrecream craving: get some slightly over ripe bananas, peel and cut into bug chunks, freeze them overnight…
  • eating less than 1200 calories does NOT put you in starvation mode. who told you that? why did you believe them? sometimes a little research goes a long way ;)
  • guess what? you won't stay in starvation mode forever - even if you keep on starving. otherwise, how would you actually starve? how do the severly emaciated die if they're in starvation mode? starvation mode is a term that is thrown around far too much without proper understanding. it doesn't happen nearly as often as…
  • for juices, you could try carrot, celery and pineapple (for the sweetness), or apple, beetroot & carrot. good luck!
  • omigod. that is an awful lot of vitamins. do you really need all those? you're much better off trying to get the necessary vitamins from your food. two suggestions: - drink a green smoothie every day - read this: http://skinnyminnie11.wordpress.com/2010/12/03/vitamins-should-you-be-taking-them/ it's a post i wrote on my…
  • http://skinnyminnie11.wordpress.com/2010/12/03/vitamins-should-you-be-taking-them/ Don't mean to promote my own website, but I think the number of words in the article/post is a little to high to warrant copying and pasting into a forum post :) Best of luck with your weightloss! :)
  • They'll be super high in sodium, and if they're deep fried (which I assume they are) then they're going to be incredibly high in fat too. Popcorn chicken is probably the closest thing for comparisons sake. And just for the record - Supersize Me is filmed in the USA, where their food laws (especially pertaining to chicken…
  • I juice! My current favourite recipe is carrots, celery and pineapple (for the sweetness). You can also try apple, beetroot & carrot. Be wary of celery leaves- they're incredibly bitter! Green leaves are the healthiest thing you can possibly consume, so try those out. Also look into green smoothies - they're amazing!
  • Try plain fruit or a green smoothie :)
  • -When frozen veggies are on sale I buy up big, and steam them later in my microwave steamer (delicious AND nutritious!) -I tend to make big stir-frys and curries as I buy my veggies in bulk and try to use them as quickly as possible. Once the meal is cooked, I put single-servings into containers and pop them in the freezer…
  • I do this 3 times a week, plus 30+ mins cardio 5 times a week. I'm only doing 1 set of 16 - 20 reps per exercise, and it takes just over 20 mins for me to complete. I'm also doing the 200 Squats Challenge. Upper Body - push-ups - bicep curls - tricep extension - lateral raises - chest flies Abs - crunches - reverse…
  • I have a mini trampoline as well, and I have to say that they don't burn THAT many calories. It's grossly overestimated. I calculate my calories burnt using these websites: http://www.jumpsport.com/pr-jt-info.htm http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/rebounder.htm These amounts seem more realistic to me :)
  • I do: Mon- 30+ mins cardio & 20 mins strength Tue- 30 - 45 mins cardio Wed- 30+ mins cardio & 20 mins strength Thu- 30 - 45 mins cardio Fri- 30+ mins cardio & 20 mins strength Sat & Sun are generally rest days (though I usually go for a walk on Sunday). On Mon, Wed & Fri I sometimes do a bit of cardio in the afternoon too,…
  • Yeah Jessieleah, you're more than welcome to check out my food diary! :)
  • It seriously just made my day that you used the word extropolate :D
  • Cumin goes well with pretty much anything - I even sprinkle it on sandwiches!
  • Studies have shown that exercising in the morning (before breakfast, but allowing a small snack for energy if need be) is the most effective time to workout. I literally read a study on this only weeks ago- if only I could remember the link so I could post it here! It's also good to exercise again later in the day - even…
  • I don't believe interval training is in the database... I would log it as bicycling/running/whatever exercise you are doing, at a moderate speed (better to under-estimate than to over-estimate).
  • I ignore them - although if I was to do a tougher workout and felt tired, I would allow myself something nutritious to refuel :)
