This is a great question. I don't have the answer but I am interested in the opinions of others. I also hear the advice to get my sugar down to zero... but I like eating fruits and veggies that contain natural sugars like blue berries and sweet potatoes.

Thats always been a concern too. I get most of my sugars from fruit, I wonder if that could be causing my problems?

Well my trainer says 1800 on workout days and 1600 on non... but to be honest I was gaining at these levels and I've tried to scale every day down to 1500 or less. My daily calculated amount was something like 2200 because my weight is so high, so 1800 was supposed to produce a deficit. I am thinking of maybe going further…

I tried the fitbit and Galaxy 5 software. It records like 1200 calories burned for a single tennis match or 800 for a PT session. I felt like it was giving me too many exercise calories I didn't truly earn. I do get around 20,000+ steps on a tennis day, maybe half that on a regular day. Who knows maybe I am actually…

This is a good point. I've been assuming my work's cafeteria food has an accurate calorie count. The only thing I really ever buy from them is a chicken breast (grilled) or a fruit cup, but I am sure they use the lowest quality meat and I could probably figure out a way to go all home cooked. Right now I bring ezekiel…

Wow thanks for so many great responses. I really appreciate everyone giving me some new ideas. 1. For the weighing food I do use a scale for any item that's not fruit of vegetables. I have always wondered if the fruit could be the problem? I did go low carb (sub 70, and once sub 50) for a period of time but it gave me…

As an atheist I can tell you drinking water works without the god part too. Good thing we have science to help us out with medical issues.

Hi. I am 230lbs and 5 foot 3 (morbidly obese). I can run for about 1 hour before becoming incredibly uncomfortable on the treadmill. Although in contrast I also play tennis at a 4.0-4.5 level where singles matches can demand intervals of intense cardio for over 3 hours. I think right out the gate it takes time to build up…

Looks like they just got blood samples and tested for the specific gene in 95,000 subjects. I guess it's not really a study since there can be no blind, double blind, or other interference. Basically they have the gene, have a duplicate of it, or they don't. "Froguel's team examined the DNA of more than 95,000 people for…

I don't really have anything to link it to you, I saw it on an obesity documentary on discovery channel. Just by Google search I turned up a bunch of articles on it, not sure how you could go about finding where it was published since it was done in Switzerland. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/233672.php…

I am sure that's why some people can't gain weight and despite medically crafted diets with extreme excess calories they continue to return to a baseline underweight BMI. Scientists have already discovered which genes make people "genetically skinny". The University of Lausanne in Switzerland did a massive study to…

I love it when people (usually men) say that ****. They just think because it works for them it works for everybody. If it were that simple then why can some people eat whatever they want, not exercise, and not gain? It's genetics and some of us have to eat PERFECTLY to be lean and some don't. I've accepted that to be a…

I'd like to share the results of an interesting study I did on my husband. So my husband is fairly muscular and does not attend the gym (ever). 5 foot 11 and about 170lbs. 26 year old man who according to his doctor is in perfect health. He spends half his work day walking around and some lifting, the other half in a car…

I am in the same boat, though instead of insanity workouts I have been doing 90min cardio sessions 4-5 days a week in my optimum caloric burn range as determined by two sets of metabolic testing. I am also exercising on the off days but it is not fat targeting (things like tennis, flag football, or lifting). I eat…

5 foot 4 235lbs jean size 18. I think some people store their fat in different places- mine is pretty well distributed which I attribute to the fact that I exercise 3-5 times a week intensely for at least two hours each session. Ive been doing that for the last 3-4 years or so doesn't really help me lose weight but I think…

Hello- I just wrote a recipe to help with this problem in mind today actually. I have a very picky family that absolutely hates veggies. My husband eats nachos and cheese all the time and it drives me nuts so I made this recipe to trick him into some veggies. I call it "Sneaky (Veggie) Loaded Nachos" it will get them a few…
