I don't refuel unless the run/event is over 3 hours. If it is, I refuel every hour. 3 hours or less and I train with water only. If I start declining on a race I will take on some calories as needed but usually don't.

Ok, there was a lot of attention on my intro of my post which I will address. I just hope that people read the rest of the post as the intro had little to do with the information I was providing. I just went and dug up the DEXA and BodPod results and I admit I was mistaken, somehow in my brain I mixed results between…

Yes, I will admit I cheated to some extent. I was very active and broke my back, the recovery time from that attributed to me gaining the weight. When I was given the green light to train again I figured out real quick that I wasn't where I was before and that hitting up long distance runs actually helped ease some of the…

Yes I did, lost 9 pounds of overall weight and increased my lean mass by 35lbs. Have the Dexa and BodPod results to prove it.

Karen, I've personally lost weight and increased my lean body mass by 35lbs in a period of three months. This was driven by a variety of factors ranging from nutrition to how and when I was working out. The fact is that it is possible for you to increase lean body mass while losing weight, you just may not lose the weight…

From my perspective it depends. I always ask myself if what I am hearing is upsetting me because it is mean/hateful or if it is true. If it is true, or there is truth to it, I have to look at if the person is using that truth to show me something that I can do better (constructive criticism) or break me down. If it is the…

21 years in and still serving. Working at a University teaching ROTC right now after spending the last 10 years in 75th Ranger Regiment. Before that I spent 7 years at Fort Drum with a tour in Hawaii in the middle and a few years as a Drill Instructor. Looking forward to retiring within the next couple years.

Jessica and Sonic, the most important run is the long run. If I were coaching you would I recommend a bit more volume? Yes....merely because I want the marathon to be a pleasurable experience and not something that you would walk away from with utter disdain. Take it slow, diversity is good, mentally and physically and…

I am at about 50 miles per week now. Have had weeks in excess of 100 mile weeks for some big events. I will tell you that if you are feeling it don't push the paces. Running slower has an extreme amount of physiological benefits that will help you increase volume injury free over time.

My longest non-stop run was 100.59 miles in 28 hours and 30 minutes.

You also must remember that the human body purposes itself to find the most efficient manner in which to conduct a movement, or series of movements. Periodization is crucial to making and keeping gains made. What type of cardio are you doing? Do you always do the same cardio? Have you been doing this routine for more than…
