  • Thanks for the encouragement. I know I'm not starting back at square one, but am glad to know that feeling sluggish and increased soreness are potentials. I have a 9 mile run coming up on Saturday, so I will soon find out!
  • I've lost right at 30, and no one but my closest cheerleaders have said anything. I haven't lost a pant size yet, although all my clothes fit better. The curse of being a tall woman.
  • Thanks for the helpful and quick replies!!
  • The perfect workout is the one you do consistently. For more than a couple of weeks. All you need is patience.
  • My favorite green smoothie: 1C spinach 1/2C almond milk (Blend these two together first to make a base) Add: 1/2 of a fresh peach (frozen works well too) 1/2C blueberries (fresh or frozen) 1/4 of a small cucumber a sprig or two of fresh mint It's less than 150 calories, and SO refreshing
  • Anyone? Bueller....Bueller...
  • Well that's good! Sorry I don't have any other insight for you. :-) best of luck!
  • Are you sexually active? Because it sounds an awful lot like you're pregnant....
  • I am 223 and just ran a mile for time today! Fastest ever, 10:38! I was super proud of my accomplishment. I started with Galloway intervals. Run 30 seconds, walk a minute. I finished a half marathon in March that way. This year, I can run 1 minute, walk 1 minute for my half marathon, and will run my first 5K straight…
  • I started running with a Galloway run/walk group in my area. It was a great way to begin, they had a "beginners" group, and I was able to complete a half marathon within 8 months of beginning my program. Slow and steady. Intervals are your friend. I still run intervals, albeit a bit faster now. You might want to look into…
  • I don't have pics, but I just want to say I feel your pain on the clothes. I've lost over 25 pounds and STILL wear the same size in everything. Except my bra. Yay. I lost a whole cup size. Although yesterday I put on a pair of jeans I hadn't tried on in a while that used to be snug, but they went right on with no…
  • My Runkeeper was wildly inaccurate both on GPS and on calories burned. Once I got my Garmin Forerunner 220, I compared results a couple of times, and it was not even close. Like, not even a little bit close. Granted, I weigh a lot more than you and run a lot slower...so your numbers may be closer than mine were.
  • You will be able to bounce back. You've already made such progress! You already know how to do this! We had a house fire back in March, and I got derailed to say the least. Being uprooted and having our lives turned upside down was a great "excuse" for me to binge eat, eat out, and quit trying to find time to be active.…
  • Boy this was an oldie! 2011?! Anyhoo.... I'm 5'10 and currently 221. I wear a loose size 18 bottom and a L or XL top (how's that for a pear, eh?) My highest I was 247 and a size 18/20. Isn't that stupid. I can still wear all the same clothes I wore when I was 26 pounds heavier, they just look less snug now. Dammit,…
  • Avocados are gross. Slimy grossness wrapped up in a bundle of gross. I also hate fresh tomatoes (but I love all tomato based products?), mushrooms taste like dirt sponges, and raw onions ruin everything they touch. As for all y'all fish haters out there...I totally feel your pain. I hated fish FOREVER. Until I had actual…
  • If you have significantly changed the type of shoe you're running in (as in going from a neutral shoe to a corrective shoe), it will take time to adjust to them. I would rotate your new shoes in with your old shoes for about a month. Do your short runs in the new shoes and stick to your old shoes on longer runs. How long…
  • Thanks for all the suggestions. I didn't use a formula for my max, that's just the highest observed hr with extremely intense exercise (running steps up the side of a cliff in our local park..."Jacob's ladder" is famous for kicking people's butts. It sure kicked mine!). At 188, I literally felt like I was going to die, so…
  • If it's a short run and I don't take water, I use my Spibelt. If it's a long run (8+ miles) I'll take my Nathan hydration belt...the pocket on my hydration belt is tiny though, and my iphone doesn't fit, so I got another clip-on pouch. That works better, and I can put my gu in the small pouch attached to the belt.
  • I'm a little late to the party here, but I wanted to chime in with my perspective. check into the Galloway running program. If there is a group that meets near you, it is an ideal way to begin running. I started last year at 247 lbs, and trained for my first half marathon, which I completed in March. Galloway is a run/walk…
  • Wow! Great job. Thanks for the reminder, it's not always about the numbers on the scale.
  • One of the reasons it is considered a good "weight-loss" fruit is that it is very low on the glycemic index compared to other fruits (particularly citrus). This just means it will not spike your blood sugar the way other high-sugar fruits potentially will. If your blood sugar remains fairly constant, you won't get that…
  • I'm 5'11, and need to lose around 80 pounds. It's so frustrating to keep working so hard, and not see much difference. I have had trouble with my knees as well. I tore my ACL in my right knee skiing years ago, and then tore the meniscus in the left knee about 4 years ago. I think if i could take some weight off my frame,…
  • These are even better if you use plantains. Bananas make the pancake greasy, but the plantains give an amazingly realistic consistency. I use 2 plantains, dash vanilla, 4 eggs, 3T coconut oil, 1/8t salt, 1/2t baking soda in the blender. My kids think they're amazing
  • Hahaha...when y'all said slow, I thought you meant SLOW. I'm training with a Galloway run/walk group for my first half marathon. I run a 13-14 min mile. Now that's SLOW. My half marathon pace will probably be 16 min/mile. That said, I always run faster listening to music. But "faster" is such a relative term...????
  • I'm not sure how much food prep you're up for, but I recently started freezer cooking once a month, and it has literally changed my life. I don't know how many you cook for (maybe just yourself), but I cook for a family of 6. I never have to worry about what's for dinner or even lunch, because we have so many leftovers. We…
  • Consider checking into a Galloway running program near you. Itis an interval training program. I am easily 75 pounds overweight, and I am currently training for a half marathon in march. I began my training in November, and I completed 8 miles today. I am VERY slow, but I am getting better each week. We run/walk as a group…
  • Fill you kitchen with yummy, healthy things and you won't find yourself wondering what to eat! Some ideas: Lettuce roll-up with turkey and pepper jack cheese Bell peppers with laughing cow wedge smeared in them Banana and almond butter Celery and peanut butter Veggie sticks and hummus Apple and s small wedge of cheddar…
  • I'm 5'10. My TDEE is anywhere between 2600-3200 depending on the calculator. I'm not that active! I've been eating well for two weeks, but only eating around 1450-1500 cals. I haven't been hungry at all! Good energy. Should I up my calories?? I've been trying to keep my carbs low--under 100g--which I think is really…
