  • Rubyayn, I'm just curious...are you ACE-certified? I'm just wondering because I am currently studying for the ACE personal trainer exam, and everything you just said about trainers not recommending supplements and diet plans is what I'm learning in their study course. Just wondering if you went through ACE since it sounds…

  • Hi, guys! Just downloaded the Kindle version of Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. Can't wait to dig into it!
  • Weekly Goal: 3000 Mon: 0 (migraine) Tues: 614 (Zumba) Wed: yet to be determined... Thur:calories burned (how they were burned) Fri: calories burned (how they were burned) Sat:calories burned (how they were burned) Sun:calories burned (how they were burned) Total: 614 Left to go: 2386
  • I'm just starting it again tomorrow. My husband and I started the week before Easter, and I had great success, losing 5 pounds in that week. Then I fell into the Easter candy (oops!) so I'm starting from square one tomorrow. I really was not hungry during the week we stuck to it, and my only complaint is that the Zevia…
  • I'd like to join in, too! I'll set my goal at 3,000 for this week, since I've just been back at exercising for a few weeks now. If I can reach that this week, I'll up it next week!
  • Awesome job! I bet you have inspired some of your peers to lead healthier lifestyles as well! Very impressive for a young woman of your age. Congratulations! Be proud!
  • Just got home from the gym, where I got in another 2.5 miles. :flowerforyou: I'm up to 14.75 now. With it being so hot outside, it's going to be tough to get the miles in except on the treadmill, and I'll have to wait until hubby gets home to watch daughter, but I will get it done. I have been following a beginner's…
  • Well, I've been AWOL for awhile. Treadmill died, again, and I've just been really busy. I did manage to get in a few miles since my last post. I've added 5 miles to my ticker. Headed to the gym when hubby gets home to get in a few more. BrunetteWife, thanks for the info on that study from UT Tyler (my alma mater - Go…
  • I've used Jillian's detox and cleanse, and I was pretty happy with it. It didn't leave me running to the bathroom constantly as some cleanses can do. It just kept things moving, so to speak. I did follow it up with the probiotic replenishment, and I felt good after the whole process was done. Keep in mind that I did not…
  • I'm 5'3", and my goal weight is 140. That's on the high end of the healthy weight range for me, but I was 280 at my heaviest, and 140 would put me at 50% of my body weight lost. When I get to 140, I'll revisit my goal and decide if I am happy there or if I want to try for 130.
  • I cut cucumbers into thin slices and eat them in place of potato chips with a sandwich. I was eating baked chips, and then I realized I could cut out about 120 calories by eating cucumbers instead. Plus the cukes are much healthier than the baked chips. I eat them with a little hummus, and it is wonderful! I like Tribe…

  • Got in another 2.5 this morning. Since my home treadmill is acting crazy and wanting to only operate at an incline of 4, I'm having a more difficult time getting in the miles. Hopefully it will be fixed tonight and I'll be back to normal tomorrow. Keep moving, ladies!
  • Where do you buy this particular brand of protein? I have to admit I am intrigued by the cake batter flavor!
  • Great job, everyone! This challenge has actually gotten me motivated to get on the treadmill and put in some miles, so I know it's going to help me run that 5K in September! I got in another 1.5 doing my warm-up with my trainer on Thursday evening. Took Friday and Saturday off, but there are another 3 to 3.5 in the plans…
  • Just got done with 3.25 miles! Reached the 3.1 mark about 2 minutes sooner than I have been because I didn't let myself wimp out and walk ridiculously slow during the intervals. Now to figure out how to update my ticker... Edited to add: Got it! My little person has now moved ahead 3.25 miles on the ticker! Nice!
  • I'm glad lucylorelei added the bit about what kind of store to shop for your socks and shoes. Definitely better to go to a store that is staffed by runners who are knowledgeable about training and know how to properly fit you with the correct shoe. Not sure where everyone else who's reading is from, but I'm in the Dallas,…
  • Those are some wise words! I'm posting those in front of my scale to remind me that it's ok that this journey takes a while. Thanks, Pepino!

  • While I'm not a seasoned runner at all, I think you may be right about the sock issue. You need to find a sock that wicks moisture away from your feet and is also comfortable for you. I like Asics, Balega, Feetures, and PowerSox. They're all soft, moisture wicking, and they all make socks that don't have a seam across the…
  • Congrats on being so dedicated! Sounds like you could be overtraining, though. Seven days a week of hard exercise (i.e. the kind that burns 1000 calories) may be too much. Give yourself today as a rest day, and take at least one day a week to rest every week. And don't feel guilty about it! It's okay to take the day off! :)

  • I'm currently reading Such a Pretty Fat by Jen Lancaster. Recently finished her book Bitter is the New Black and The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.
  • Hey, guys! I'm a little late getting in on this, but I'd like to take the challenge, too! I have committed to doing a 5K with a coworker on September 9, so this is the perfect thing to make sure I do plenty of training before then. I've walked in several 5Ks already, but my goal is to run this one. I'm using a 5K training…
  • I totally agree with Repoman. Polar is the best, and the more bells and whistles, the higher the price, so get just what you're going to use. I started off with a very basic F4, which I'm not sure they make any more. I was doing all my exercising at home at that time, and the F4 was very basic so it worked. Once I started…
  • Wow! I see a lot of great songs in this thread that I need to add to my iPod! I do most of my cardio in group classes (Zumba, water aerobics, etc.), but I do a little bit of treadmill running, so here are a few of my current favorites for that: Allstar - Smashmouth Break Stuff - Limp Biskit Buttercup - The Foundations…
  • I usually go ahead and heat up the whole bag and then put the leftovers in the fridge and take what I need each time. Then 30-45 seconds will do it for the single portion.

  • I love the omelet in a mug recipes from Hungry Girl. You spray a coffee mug with non-stick spray, dump in a quarter cup Egg Beaters, one wedge of Laughing Cow light cheese, and any meat or veggies you want. Pop it in the microwave for 60 seconds, stir, and keep microwaving in 15-second intervals until the egg is done. You…
  • I'm a complete Dr. Pepper addict. My last sip of regular Dr. Pepper was June 26, 2006. I ate at McDonald's that day and had a Big Mac, large fries, and large Dr. Pepper on my way home from the "weight loss doctor." He suggested that I start keeping a food diary (his only good advice), so I looked up the calories in my meal…
  • Cucumber slices with a couple of tablespoons of hummus or lightly misted with one of those salad spritzer sprays works for me. The sugarless gum is also a quick fix, as are clementines. One little clementine has about 40 calories and is sweet enough to take care of my sweet tooth.
  • Hi, Tammy! I'm new to the site, too, but so far, I love it. And the price is definitely right! :) I'm an assistant principal, so I know how busy you are as a teacher. Sorry to hear about your surgery not being successful, but it sounds like you are determined to improve your life, so I wish you the best of luck.
