Try your local American Legion, VFW, Elks Lodge, etc for cheap drinks. My local American Legion (Post 291) has pretty good beer on tap for $2-3 and mixed drinks or shots for $4-5; depending on what you get. Then they will add an extra dollar to drink prices if they happen to have live entertainment.

I'm an Army Veteran (Desert Storm & Granada), so if I'm out at a bar/restaurant and see someone in uniform I will usually (anonymously) pay their tab when I leave.
