Gracie, thanks for your post! A few weeks ago, when I reached my goal, I asked if there was anyone out there who was able to keep all of their weight off for a long time. I am afraid to gain back the weight I lost and was hoping to hear some inspirational stories. Unfortunately I didn't get very many replies, so I was…

Nope, this is probably the only time where when you hear something that is too good to be true.....it's still true! Yes, you are entitled to those calories. Let's say you eat 1300 calories. Then you workout and burn 600 of them. 1300-600=600 calories left for your body to use to keep itself alive (what MFP calls…

:ohwell: Yep, all of those reasons sound exactly right to me. Your body work so much harder in the heat, and hydration is even more critical at that temperature. You're lucky all that happened was that you felt like crap - you could have suffered a heat stroke due to cardiac distress. Brava! That is a great attitude!…

That's a good point - I work out in the morning so I know exactly how many extra calories I'm entitled to. I don't know if you can add in some of the extras to your breakfast the following morning?

Bumpity bump bump BUMP!!!

I eat 'em with great joy! To me, they represent the glass of wine or the slice of homemade bread at a restaurant that I don't have to feel guilty about. And I have lost weight and reached my goal by doing so.

I have found some really tasty light breads out there that are only 35 calories per slice! Country Kitchen makes a light Wheat, and the two nearest supermarket chains have their own version that are pretty good and also only 35 calories per slice (Market Basket Light Wheat and Stop & Shop Light Multi Grain) . Have you…

I had a nasty bug last week and while I had virtually no appetite, when I was hungry, my body craved fresh fruit. And protein. So On day 3 I dragged myself to the market and bought $30 worth of fresh fruits: berries, grapes, oranges, apples, bananas, as well as a store-cooked rotisserie chicken. The rest of my diet…

Thanks - I will check them out! I don't mind paying top dollar for a bra if it's worth it.

 Where do you find Torrid? that is exactly the look I'm going for!

Thanks for all the tips ladies! Looks like I'm going to Lane Bryant. I never had good luck with VS, they never gave me good support. The last time I was at this weight I wore push-up bras, but I just don't think I'm going to go that route at 40 years old! Once I gained weight, and a cup size, I started wearing minimizers.…

ROFLMAO!!!!

Nuts! I keep a tin of Bold Diamond Wasabi & Soy sauce almonds on hand just for that reason - when I'm not hungry but am significantly below my calorie goal, I eat them. they are like Lays - you can't have just one!

That's a great feeling! When that happened to me I wanted to dance to the checkout! When the cashier asked me "How are you doing today?" which was her stock, automatic greeting for everyone, I replied, "I"M GREAT!!!!" with a huge smile on my face. I waited for her to ask me why but she didn't and I as much as I was dying…

Hips, ultimately the choice is up to you. As you can see this is a very controversial issue, so the main question you should ask yourself, is: what style of eating will you be able to maintain for the rest of your life? Because diets don't work for the long haul - you will gain the weight back once you go off of the diet.…

I am always way over on my sugars too, but I eat lots of fresh fruit, and I have either oatmeal with local honey or yogurt for breakfast. I figure I'm eating healthy, whole foods, plus I have lost weight and reached my goal so obviously I've done something right. So I wouldn't worry too much about that if I were you - it…

how about hard-boiled eggs? I love one when I get back from my long bike rides.

I have the same dilemna when I go out for pizza....so I end up using the nutritional information from a chain like Papa Gino, Papa John, Pizza Hut, etc. I ask my husband to compare the pizza we had with one of those chains, becuase unfortunately he is an expert in chain food :(. And I use that data. IMO, it's better to…

Congratulations on the new you! It does feel great to fit into a smaller size you haven't worn in years. Who would've thought that diet & exercise would actually work?!?! LOL.

Bumping because sometimes I really crave a good hearty soup!

Since you are so far past your surgery, I would suggest making an appointment with your new PCP, and if you don't have a PCP then get one now. Tell him/her your health concerns, and get a referral to a nutritionist. Depending on your insurance, if your doctor can justify the referral to a health issue (if you are again…
-
Didn't your doctor refer you to a nutritionist prior to your surgery? Most people I know that have had this surgery are hooked up with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of the surgeon, a nutritionist (for obvious reasons) a psychologist (for help with lifestyle changes, coping strategies, etc) and a physical therapist…

Really??? Is it true that brown rice isn't any better for you? Because i've always thought the opposite but I have to force myself to eat brown rice...I enjoy the taste of white rice so much more and I absolutely LOVE basmati!! I also heard recently that jasmine rice is much higher on the GI that all of the above, is that…

You can figure that out by using the "goals" feature

I enjoy plain yogurt mixed with either: 1) honey & cinnamon 2) hershey's cocoa powder, shredded coconut & packet of sweetener 3) fresh strawberries!!!! Loads of protein and packed with pro-biotics & anti-oxidants no matter which mix-in you use.

Funnydream, absolutely! I plan on using MFP to keep me on track indefinitely. I tried calorie counting once a few years ago, before this website was around. I did it the old-fashioned way with a calorie count book, a calculator, a pad & a pencil. I lost 7 pounds in a few weeks, but it was so laborious and time consuming…

I really like points #2 & 3. I just finished a great book called "The End of Overeating" written by the former US FDA Commisioner. Very enlightening about how the food industry (primarly fast food, chaine. etc) taps into those very points. I won't go into it further, because I think everyone who is serious about living a…
