  • I used to always eat before my long runs and always have something before a race. But, now I am working on running fasted - so far I've managed a 7 mile tempo run on an empty stomach, and I felt pretty good.
  • I don't think I was the back of the pack at the Manitoba Marathon, but, when I got to the recovery area for my "refreshments" after finishing with a 4:42 time it was almost all packed away. The allotted time to finish the course was 6 hours, so, I was a little miffed that I had to beg for a chocolate milk, and there wasn't…
  • I haven't read any of the other responses, so my apologies if this has already been mentioned. 1) Expect this to be a conversation you will have multiple times and with varying levels of detail. Make sure your daughter knows it isn't a one time talk either, and she can come back with more questions. 2) Ask your daughter…
  • I think that you already have a great base to be successful at running a half-marathon in 3 months. I recommend the Hal Higdon training plans - there is something there for everyone (although, you may have to do your own conversions from miles to KMs) Also, check out www.mcmillanrunning.com for some pace predictors based…
  • While it wasn't for specific scale weight loss goals, I found that following the TDEE method helped keep me from being crazy hungry the day after my long runs. By eating the same amount each day, as long as I was sticking to the training schedule/activity level that I did my calculations from I was feeling fine. There is a…
  • I think that you need to add in that 3rd day of run -commuting, bringing your mileage up to 27. You will also need a day to devote to the LSD. You can do it with the stroller. It was my LSD that really prepared me for the marathon - the miles during the week were just that, miles.

  • I think I finally felt like a runner after I completed my first marathon. But, I've been calling myself a runner since my first 1/2 marathon.
  • Natural waist is where your side pinches/creases when you bend to the side. Measuring around your belly button is considered your abdomen. Also, hip measurements should be taken at the widest point, usually measuring over the upper-most part of your bum. I'm 5'11, 175 Chest: 37" Natural Waist: 30.5" Abdomen: 31.5" Hips: 39"
  • While "irregardless" is listed in some dictionaries - it's type is considered nonstandard. So basically saying that the dictionary agrees that it is a word in common use, but not actually a proper word at all.

  • As people, sex is pleasurable for us. It can be a very intimate, very tender, very incredible bond between 2 people, but sometimes you just need to release all those endorphins that come along with the act. Neither act is either right or wrong. Porn as a supplement in a relationship is fine - in my view it is a way that we…
  • I love everyone's different views on it. Visiting Boston one day for it's history is on my life-travel bucket list - maybe by the time I'm 40 I'll be fast enough to BQ, and do it all!
  • My first assumption was that it was to have a closer to equal number of participants of each gender. A little off topic, and not meant to take any importance off of a BQ, but could someone enlighten me as to why Boston is such a bucket list run for so many. Everyone seem to be after that BQ at some point in their running…
  • When my 7 year old and 5 year old asked me why I was scanning the peanut butter jar, I told them because I wanted to know how it fit into my healthy food choices. We talk with them about how foods can affect how we feel, and that healthier food choices usually give us a better result. We compare how we feel after eating…
  • I don't see it a lot, but I don't see it as any different than when men run shirtless, or you see them heading down the path with their shirt tucked into their shorts. I have done it when out for a run at my parents cottage, and around the campsite. Just make sure if you are doing it during daylight hours that you lather…
  • My nose runs worse during cooler runs and in the winter than it does in the summer. I also get a case of the sneezes when I get back from running - I'm talking 10 or 12 sneezes in a row. I usually have a Kleenex or rag in my running belt to wipe as needed.
  • Running has taught me to: Listen to myself; be that from niggling pains, inner thoughts, raw emotions running has taught me how to be in tune with myself Running has helped keep me grounded, and level headed. I can always count on a run to get me out of a funk, or whatever I need. Running is my meditation.
  • I learned through my training runs that I really can't tolerate gus/gels. I use the chews. Honey Stinger in either the Cherry Cola or Cherry Blossom are my favourites. I find these to be the easiest to chew and digest and they don't leave my mouth feeling dry/parched. I believe 1 pouch is roughly 160 calories. I do follow…
  • ^^This. I was super impressed that the volunteers at almost every aid station on Sunday held out cups holding the bottom.
  • Thanks all. Reading your replies has me flooded with emotions all over. I guess because the first always stays with us!. For those of you that asked about what I did for training, I ran 4 times a week, M, Tu, W and a long run on Sundays. I reworked the Hal Higdon Novice 2 plan, added in a couple of extra 20 mile long run…
  • I'm a mid pack runner too, and haven't run any "big" races to compare to. At my first half there were hardly any spectators out, and I was thankful that I had a co-worker to run with because he was my personal cheerleader. It was only the 2nd year for this race, and being that it was my first race, I didn't know what to…
  • I've been following TDEE for quite some time (although when I was trying to do a bit of a cut I switched methods) and I have always felt well fueled and ready for all my runs, and I seem to recover quickly.
  • I'm honestly hoping that some fellow runners will offer me some encouraging words this Sunday. I won't have anybody along the course route to personally cheer for me - I'm just going to ride on the coat tails of others and absorb the support that is out there for them. :-) I actually started to worry today that what if I…
  • I wear my running belt. It holds a 12oz water bottle on my back. I also carry with me ID, house key, phone, chapstick, honey stinger gummies (that I only eat on runs greater than 90 minutes, and even then I try not to use them), a few dollars in case I feel like I need a Gatorade from the convenience store.
  • We are late on to the train - but are 3 episodes into the 1st season. I'm loving it so far. I don't now if my hubs likes it or just tolerates it.
  • Here's wishing you an easy recovery so that you can get back on the road/trails again in no time.
  • A great keepsake, and a moment you will always remember. Oh, and, I LOVE your tank!
