  • Hi all. Can someone tell me how to bookmark this page?
  • I'm in! SW 280+, CW 209, GW 175ish. I'm recovering from double knee replacement, an outcome of years of obesity. I want to finish my weight loss.
  • I used to follow a diet called the F Plan, and lost quite a bit. I now just watch calories in and out, but not because I had a problem with that diet. From memory, F Plan was probably fairly high in carbs but it worked. One of my go to meals was jacket potato with baked beans. I used to make up a cereal (their recipe)…
  • I needed to wean myself from the scales because it was doing my head in. I wasn't very successful, so I did a deal with my feeble brain. I now weigh myself and record the weight on 13th of every month. However, I have sneak peeks occasionally through the month because I'm weak. I do not record these and am just seeking…
  • I have a fatty pancreas, diagnosed through gastroscopy when I was in severe pain and was throwing up blood. I am having recurrent attacks of what I believe is pancreatitis but doctor believes it is GERD. I disagree because the medication isn't making the slightest difference. I certainly understand the anxiety. Getting…
  • It improved almost immediately, though I was told it could take a couple of weeks. I have had three injections, because it wears off eventually. However, I've just had both knees replaced and did a lot of preparatory work in the lead-up, including indoor cycling, losing some weight and stretching. I have no pain at all in…
  • I had it for a tear in my achilles, and it was brilliant. I'm in Australia and it's covered by Medicare.
  • You can lose weight at any age, and you don't need to lose all the weight to feel better. I've lost 31 kg since I turned 60. I've found it to be difficult but rewarding. For years I ignored advice to set small goals, do it slowly etc and my weight ballooned as a result. I changed my attitude. Now, every morning I would…
  • Don't lose hope. My son-in-law has male factor infertility. My daughter also had endometriosis. Once they sorted out the endometriosis, my daughter was pregnant on the second IVF cycle using a process called PICSI. My grandson is six weeks old. Check this out: https://www.healthcentre.org.uk/fertility-treatment/picsi.html.…
  • I used to get massive leg cramps in inner thighs and calves at the same time until I started taking magnesium supplements. Haven't had one cramp in 12 months.
  • My son in law has that prob. My daughter also had endometriosis. She had surgery and the fertility specialist used a process called PICSI - where they pick out a single sperm and inject it into an egg - and and their baby is 5 weeks old. Good luck
  • I am having a bilateral total knee replacement on 27 August because of severe arthritis (a result of my years of obesity). I've already had both hips replaced. Don't believe the myth that you can't exercise. In preparation for my surgery, I have been using my recumbent bike daily and doing isometric exercises, which…
  • I could meet some of your aims, but I'm not male or in your age group. :-) However, I've lost more than 60 lbs and have about 40 to go. I'm wearing the brunt of my years of morbid obesity now. I've had both hips replaced, had my gallbladder removed and am about to have both knees done together (next week, in fact). Joints…
  • I'm having a double knee replacement in less than a week (eep!). I have been using a recumbent bike daily and doing prehab leg exercises, which together have made a huge difference to my leg strength and knee pain. I've been using weights for upper body strength but I must admit I haven't put as much effort into that as I…
  • I'll send you a friend request. You are being bullied. Bullies pick on vulnerable people. I don't understand why the world is so full of them. My daughter was a string bean but bullies told her constantly that she was fat and she believed them. You need good support and resources to build your resilience.
  • I'm 65. I've lost around 66 lb. I have severe arthritis and have had both hips replaced. I'm having both knees replaced on 27 August (eep). I therefore find it difficult to exercise, but I have found my recumbent bike invaluable in building leg strength and muscle burns more calories. I've found that the weight still comes…
  • One pound a day? You lucky duck. If I do that in a week, I'm happy - well, not really, but what else can I say!
  • Every pound you're overweight adds 4lbs of stress on your knees. I was around 280lb and have lost about 65 lb. Still have 40-50 to go. As you're going to the gym, can I suggest you try a recumbent bike? I bought one and have used it almost every day since January. The strength I've been able to build in my knees has made a…
  • P.S. I work in a hospital and apparently every 1 lb you're overweight adds 4 lb of pressure to your knees. If you are to undergo knee replacement, they like you to have done pre-hab to hasten your recovery.
  • I was 280 lbs. I've lost about 65 lbs and have about another 40 to go. I'm about to have a double knee replacement and in preparation I bought a recumbent bike and have used it most days since the beginning of the year. It cost me about $600 (Aus). There's no pressure on my knees from the bike. The strength in my knees has…
  • Here's a post from someone else where there's a definite change in legs. I've been using my recumbent bike every day for most of the year and I can see good muscle definition when I lie down and raise my legs (the fat rolls down and covers it when I stand up) If you have fat legs now, losing weight must change…
  • Good grief! I didn't realise that when I responded! \
  • I googled it. It doesn't sound like what your friend has imo. "Stiff person syndrome (SPS) is a rare, progressive syndrome that affects the nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord. Symptoms may include extreme muscle stiffness, rigidity and painful spasms in the trunk and limbs, severely impairing mobility.…
  • Hi Tim. I'll send you a friend request. I've lost about 60lb and have about 30 to go. Like you, I go one step forward and two steps back. It's been a long and slow process but I'm on my (latest) roll now. There's no feeling as bad as having achieved and then undone it and having to start again. I'm determined not to do…
  • Hi. I'll send u a request. I'm 65 and have lost 60lb. I have about 30 to go. Hard yakka but so worth it.
  • I'll be having bilateral knee replacements in the near future. I could barely walk without walking sticks. I've been using a recumbent bike for a few months to strengthen my knees and leg muscles. The difference is amazing. I of course still have pain but no longer need sticks. I still need the surgery because of my…
  • My daughter has undergone IVF for four years. Both she and her husband had issues and now she is 28 weeks pregnant. I have a good understanding of the emotional roller coaster she has been on and I log every day. I'll send you a friend request.
  • How do I join? Have lost 55lb. Currently 226. I'd like to be under 200 by 1 Sept, the first day of the Australian spring.
  • I've sent you a request. Slow and steady? I wish I had a choice, but slow and steady it is. I'm about to have to have a double knee replacement due to my weight.

  • I went from 120 kg to 87 kg, then back up to 128 kg, then down to 90 kg. Up I went again - am now around 103 kg. It's hard to lose it all over again - and for me it has been very slow. However, I've learned my lesson. I do know that most people put it all on again, but I'm determined not to this time.
