Great post. We are all confused. That is the point of the food diary. Guessing at what we eat (carbs, protein, fat) and how much we eat does not work or we would all be ripped in perfect shape. Use the food diary for what it is. If after two weeks you lost no fat (not by scale!) measuring by tape measure, calipers, etc.…

Where did I say "should" look like? I was asking if there are other guys like me that like natural. I frankly do not care what you chose to do. Nor am I judging you. I did not attack you-why the direct attack on me? Next time I will ask your permission to ask a question of other guys. Sorry.

This is very close to one of the points I was trying to make. I used a very poor choice of words. I did not intend to denigrate or judge choice of what women want to do. Only, that there are guys that appreciate natural as it is.

Didn't mean to come across as whining.

How do you stop at only one teaspoon of honey? That is my go to sweet when I must have it.

That's a tough one, since everyone of my friends drink. It is easier to drink than get new friends.

First- weight is a bad indicator-to many variables, i.e. water retention and muscle gain. Looks (mirror) is the best. Use tape measure around belly button sucking in every two weeks and calipers. If no weight loss- if you are exercising it could be muscle gain as you lose fat. Only measurements will confirm that you are…

You forgot a few: 1. No using instant messaging to gang up on the guy. 15 women against one guy is not a fair fight. 2. No double standard. If you get to show cleavage, wear a short dress and flirt- then the guy gets to flirt as well.

Most likely True- learned on an IBM selectric-best class ever taken. Next person pretends to be a vegan but secretly eats meat.

This- can't spot reduce. In general- you lose a layer of fat all over body. Since thighs and stomach have a thick layer you will visually see no loss there except for long time periods (month). In the early stages of fat loss- look at the joints, like inside elbow for fat loss-you will see the weekly loss there. Once you…

I have had few alcohol and chocolate dinners. Just try not to go over calorie limit, or too far over it (less than 1000 over). Going over a little once or twice a week is not bad so long as the for the entire week-more calories burned then consumed for the 7 day period. I consider "blowing the diet" when you really go…

Hey- drinking a good high quality, full body beer is Not cheating. The monks invented beer as a meal replacement. Beer is a healthy drink that I incorporate in my lifestyle. The only negative with beer is when it is abused- like any other food item. There is a reason beer comes in a six pack. It is the perfect meal…

I had major acid reflux problem and was on previcid for almost a year. I thought I was going to be on it forever. I was told the same thing, that I had a bad valve at the top of the stomach that did not close and if I ate before laying down I would vomit. I had huge reflux issues and would wake up with a mouthful. I did…

Overall fat loss- doesn't matter when you eat- just eat less calories than burn for the time period you are looking to lose, i.e. day, week, month, etc. However, what you eat and quantity will greatly affect exercise. Long cardio especially. If you eat junk, especially no good carbs, you will have no energy. Further, if…

Hi- You can eat whatever you want. I go over my so called limit once in a while. Don't let the calorie counting control you. Consider using it as a feedback mechanism. The only foods not on my list are those that actually make me sick, so very few not on it. For example, I have beer and chocolate many days during the week,…

True. The next person admires themselve in the mirror.

Double major chem/math. Worked as a chemist for three years-great job but no money. Went to law school. Have been a patent lawyer for 20 years and never looked back. Use chem, math, bio, and law everyday.

Any song, movie, TV show that promotes an agenda instead of entertaining. After working, working out, etc., I want to just relax and enjoy the show or music, not have more aggravation.

Not an age thing. I am 51 and still can build muscle, lose fat. Do not concentrate on weight loss, especially if you are working out. For example, over the last three months I lost 3 pounds total, but extensive measurements and mirror show that about 10 pounds of fat gone and about 7 pounds of muscle gained. The fat loss…

That commercial stating that high fructose corn syrup is same as any other sugar makes my blood boil. It is an outright lie. Glucose is metabolized far different than fructose, and also dextrose, sucrose, lactose, and combinations thereof.

I understand and have come to the same conclusion.

Corrected. Thanks.

I am really trying not to argue with you. I made this thread to vent the frustration with people making irritating statements about health (I am not saying your statements are irritating). I personally believe alcohol in moderation is quite healthy, and far more healthy than processed foods, etc. (for another forum). I…

I was thinking the same thing. You had the guts to say it.

OK- I am not going to argue against your below point. I was responding to a post that stated alcohol causes weight gain. That is like saying fat causes weight gain, carbs cause weight gain, etc. We are all on MFP because we all understand that weight gain is caused by eating more calories than we burn and weight loss is…

Just because alcohol is made from sugar, it is not sugar. Alcohol has 2 carbons, 6 hydrogens and 1 oxygen molecule. It is difficult for your liver to transform this small molecule into a fat molecule having more than 10 carbon atoms long, and over 30 hydrogen atoms. Sugar (for example Sucrose) has 12 carbons, 22 hydrogens…
