  • If you are not a clean eater then why post here?
  • What processing and chemicals? Am I missing something?
  • Not sure why you are getting attacked. I like the ingredients and would eat it. I happen to like raw veggies, minimal processing of meats, etc. i.e. "clean eating." Although I must admit I don't always eat clean. At 52 I have tried to eat fried food, fast food, pop tarts, donuts, etc., I just do not feel good after eating…
  • Rest day? What's that? I will lift heavy each muscle group once a week to allow rest and recovery for each muscle group. However, never missed a day of exercise (sports, cardio, lifting, biking, etc). No days off just lying around.
  • Calorie shocker- go to cheescake factory and watch someone eat 3000 calories in a half hour- bread, appetizer, huge meal, and cheesecake desert. That's more than my whole day.
  • I get the same results from the high glycemic carbs (flour, rice, sugar)-asleep within 10 minutes after eating unless I am doing cardio. Thus, I try to only eat the high glycemic carbs right before or doing cardio (biking, running, etc. )
  • I have had similar results eating clean. When in a hurry- dump all of the fresh veggies you want into the blender and slam them down. When not in a hurry, this is a good meal plan. When I have time like watching a movie- I make a giant clean salad and graze on it throughout the movie. Veggies also taste better without the…
  • I eat pretty close to paleo (natural is closer). I avoid highly processed foods and try to eat raw when possible. Not always possible, especially when travelling. When travelling I go low carb to avoid overeating (carbs make me very hungry and difficult to control total calories eaten). I especially avoid processed flour,…
  • Whatever weight you look fit at- hint of six pack, tight legs, etc.
  • Hey OP- this is not good. I have been through this. I am 52 and lifted weights, studied diet, etc for over 30 years. If you are like me you will never be able to accept a spouse that makes stupid decisions- ie. starves and then binges, and is unhealthy. It will get to the point where you will be eating separate meals. When…
  • I think meat is essential for far more than just the protein. Meat also contains minerals, vitamins, and many more compounds. Furthermore, meat = muscle. If I want to maintain or gain muscle, the surest way is to eat muscle. Works every time.
  • In the same boat. After 24 years of marriage, was single for about a week. Not into the dating scene. Now dating someone. Far easier at this age, no BS. First woman I asked on a date now dating.
  • "having to hear him complain about his appearance is a little tiring when he doesnt want to do anything active for it." You are not nagging. He opened the door by complaining. Once he complained, there is no problem with active discussion about how to fix the complaint. Not fair for one person to make a complaint and the…
  • Graduated from lakeland high in Minocqua Wis.
  • I am 51 and notice it is a little harder to burn off the fat and retain the muscle, but it can be done. I suggest focusing more long term. For example, I focus more on weekly calorie/macro totals, instead of daily. I measure myself only once a month (forget the scale), i.e. tape around waist, arms, legs, etc.
  • The main problem with carbs with me is portion control. Very difficult to stop eating a large meal if it is mostly carbs (pasta, pizza, etc.). Far easier for me to control portion size with mostly protein and fat. However, I do eat carbs.
  • Hi. I like lifting heavy. I am 51 and old school. Pyramid all lifts 10, 8, 6, 4, sometimes 2 or 1 rep, always end on heaviest lift. Current weight during cut 163, bench 245.
  • Why is zig zagging dangerous? If I have a hard lift or long competitive bike ride, I adjust my calories and protein way up and may go over calorie limit for the day. Furthermore, when I am cutting fat (weekly deficit of 3500 calories) if I get too weak, I will go back to gaining a little to increase strength, and then go…
  • For me weekly calories, protein, carbs, etc is far more important. I try to get a 3500 a week deficit (i.e. 1 pound fat a week) or less to maintain as much muscle as possible.
  • Only ways I know to get buff (decent muscle mass plus low fat) is lifting "heavy" or HITT type exercises that use fast twitch muscles. Heavy means what weight you can lift under control for a set of 10 or less. HITT works too. The sprinters bodies are buff- muscle plus low fat. Most long distance runners have no muscle but…
  • I think the calories listed in the diary do not account for the energy of conversion. If you eat foods that require very little energy conversion (sugar), then the calories consumed listed in the food diary will be close. However, if you consume foods that require a significant amount of energy to convert the food to a…
  • Try to make an argument without the personal attack. I used sweet potato as an example, not actual diet. Not talking about nutrients. We list foods in our diary and they logged based on "calories" to help us figure out a deficit to lose weight (if you want to lose weight), i.e calories burned greater than caloric intake…
  • Still do not agree. Sitting still for 24 hours the person burns 2000 calories, and eats only 2000 calories of glucose which has no conversion calories, thus, the person burns 2000 calories and eats 2000 calories- maintain weight. Now the person expending 2000 calories sitting still eats 2000 calories of sweet potato which…
  • I do not agree a calorie is a calorie. A calorie from glucose eaten is very efficiently used as energy by body. A calorie eaten from a complex carb must be converted (i.e. energy spent) to a form where it can be used as energy. Thus, if you expend 2000 calories and eat 2000 efficient calories- maintain weight. If you…
  • I rely on broscience. When a see a fit guy or woman I ask them what they eat- broscience.
  • I had this argument with family members. Risk v. benefit- with the surgery you are cut open and can die and there is no guarantee eating less will make you healthy. The surgery will not make you choose healthier food. What you eat is just as important or even more important than the amount. I would like to eat pizza and…
  • For me, it depends on what type of cardio I am doing. When I was running marathons in my 40's, my best resting heart rate was 55. I am now into fast road biking, which is more strain on my heart. At my physical last week, my resting heart rate was 48 (I am 51).
  • OK I will take the bait. Why not? I eat at least one banana a day.
  • "Rant over. I hate compliments. They are almost always meant as insults....or are just freaking awkward. People should just be silent." [/quote] You are the exact opposite of me. I believe most people make nice statements and I enjoy communication. I always give the benefit of the doubt in a positive light. Anger, hate,…
  • In same situation. Just funnel the energy towards working out. Now working out twice a day.
