Thanks Andy. We have our (nearly) three year-old granddaughter with us, so I'm sending the link to my daughter to mine for tips.

Andy, what's the URL of your website? I'd love to check it out.

Hey, it sounds like we're in the same headspace and people space for this. Except I only have one grandchild coming. I want to have lost 50 pounds pre-Disney and it's looking quite hopeful.
-
Oh, I'm definitely running with it and celebrating the successes. Thanks everyone!

Love that there's a Disney group! My husband and I seriously started our get-fit push solely because we're off to Disneyworld May 11 - 20, 2013 and we want to be able to keep up with our granddaughter. Our last trip to Disneyworld was 5 or 6 years and I remember being absolutely exhausted by all the walking. Not…

My granddaughter. I want to be around and be able to run with her for as long as I possibly can.

I'm post-menopausal and, while I'm finding the weight more difficult to shed than it used to be, it's actually going quite well. I'm waiting for a doctor's note before the coach at my gym will do some heavy lifting instruction (bah, litigation worries). In the meantime, I've been doing cardio (stationary bike, treadmill,…

I like the taste of turkey bacon better.

You already know you look awesome. You also have great writing skills - I really enjoyed reading your post.

I'm with the others who are telling you that you are NOT hideously disgusting. You're packing some extra weight; so many of us are. Fat is not who you are, so don't let it define you. You can do something about your weight, you really can. But you are not disgusting.

I think I'm gonna win this one, though unwittingly. I read this thread and had no idea what my weight was on my dl. Couldn't even recall ever being asked, just heading in to get the picture re-taken. So I looked. It has my weight at 49 kg (about 108 pounds). These days I weigh in at more than 100 pounds over that ... the…

Also. Pretty sure cat food is negative calorie food. In every sense of the word.

I agree with this. I was reading one MFP thread where people were talking about the weight loss remarks people made and many were offended by remarks probably well-intentioned. So yeah, I think many people hesitate before saying anything.

This is handy advice for so many life situations.

Well, I'm 53 and have about 70 pounds to go to my goal weight. I pretty much never let what people think of me limit what I do ...

Sunday is kind of a lazy family day and, if I'm going to go over on my calories, Sunday is likely to be the day that happens. I almost always have leftover calories, so it's nice knowing I can have a little extra without "cheating". I don't deliberately plan to over over my plan, but if it happens ... no harm, no foul.…

My husband has noticed that I snore less.

In the past, my husband has been able to drop weight more quickly and easily than I. I think a reinforcement - from you - of how well she's doing (because she is) would help. A dozen roses? A (nonfood) date night? Breakfast in bed? Just something from you that says "I love you". Feeling better always makes me do better.

Meh, me too. It was the phrase that counted. Also, there's an edit button.

One never expects to read the words "pyrric victory" in an online forum. A lovely weigh-in surprise nonetheless. I'd expect most people buying a new scale discover they weigh more than they thought. Congrats!
-
Agreed. I was weighing myself more than once a day and getting frustrated at the fluctuations, even though I knew *why* my weight fluctuates. Finally got my daughter to take my scale to her house after my Friday morning weigh in. :blushing: That was the only way I could stop myself from stepping on the scale every time I…

Hmmm, you're looking great, think I might give this a try.

This. But my hips aren't.

This makes me want to egg his house and TP his yard.

I started mid-November in the same boat as you; I'm now 1/4 of the way there. You can do it. It's not easy, but as the weight starts to drop off, you'll feel a huge sense of accomplishment. Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels. There's lots of people here who've been in the same place we are, and they conquered…

Amen. Many of these threads are simply asking a question about something (quackery or not) to supplement their efforts - not an all-or-nothing extreme. If you think it's quackery, fine, say so. No need to pound the pulpit about it.

I'm gonna say about 3 weeks. But I think a part of that is\was just a recognition of the difference between just wanting to eat and actually being hungry (for me, anyway). I've gone a decade with never really being hungry.
-
I save the majority of my calories for later in the day. Then, beginning around 5, I space out my remaining calories. A light dinner, an apple, a piece of cheese, some frozen mango, some sushi ... I just have healthy stuff lined up and as soon as I feel a little hungry, I nab one of my preferred snacks and I'm usually able…
