@ Stage14, Bigtaljay, Heidimightyrawr, Ashlee, Capt_apollo, BlueBombers -- I am SO happy to see people giving good advice on here! Yay! I have no experience with NROLFW, but Starting Strength is awesome.

I feel like you didn't read the story. This guy had to pretty much shattered legs, and was told he'd never stand again. He now deadlifts 500lbs. In your situation, I'd start with RDL, as deep as you can, using a broomstick. Once your form is perfect, force yourself to go 1cm deeper every time (which would be every other…

My $0.02, for what it's worth? Do Starting Strength. Get a coach, and learn to deadlift. Start very light, and use perfect form, and go up very, very slowly. If this story doesn't convince you, nothing will. http://startingstrength.com/index.php/site/index/barbell_training_as_rehab

My first thought as well!

^This. The Starting Strength book has a lot of great info on technique, but some of it, you just can't see yourself. Sadly, most coaches will teach you wrong. I'd first read the book, and then try to find a Starting Strength certified coach in your area.

I suppose you can start there, but you're going to run into issues quickly. At your size/weight, you're going to need to go up in small increments, sometimes even less than 1lb, especially on exercises like the OHP and the bench. That's possible on a barbell (you can use washers from the hardware store, if need be), but…

Deadlift! Bleh - forgot how to post the link.

Erm, demonstrably false, for many people on here. How do you think so many people got to be obese, and needed to get onto a health web site to track what they eat?
-
Oh ya, had chocolate chip, and I hated them. Then I found Quest bars. Go find Quest bars - they are good. Chocolate chip cookie dough done right, high protein, low carb. You can thank me later.

Pics, or how could we know? LOL!

You can't really gain weight from lifting weights. Well, you gain a bit of water weight, right at first, but that's temporary. It is 100% about calories in vs. calories out. If you run on the treadmill, and burn X calories, and then stop that, you ALSO have to take X calories off your diet, or you'll gain weight. Also,…

I know you didn't ask, but you get MUCH more benefit from doing a simple and short freeweight routine rather than machines. Really. Meats (especially chicken and turkey), and eggs (especially the whites) are the biggest sources that I know of. But I'm not 100% clear on why you don't want the powder. It's a bit expensive,…

That regimen will have you lose weight, from all over, and include muscle loss. I would try to lift heavy 3X a week so you will lose fat more than muscle. You'll see some VERY fast results if you do it that way. Look into Starting Strength for technique and a routine. Or even StrongLifts for a routine -- but I much prefer…

At first, I decided to go for the middle of my BMI. I got there without much problem, but then my bf%age was still too high -- I was skinny fat. So then I started weight training. But weight training hits limits rather quickly if you only eat at maintenance, or if you eat at a deficit. So I started eating to gain weight…

A few of the key people are kinda busy elsewhere. Nathan and Morena have a pretty full schedule I believe, and it seems Alan Tudyk is just freaking everywhere.. And Fox still owns the rights. Joss talked about it once, and said something about having to ruin several people's careers to make it happen again.

Heh -- I was at the movie theatre to watch Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and saw a preview for Serenity, where they mentioned the series. The preview looked kick-*kitten*, so I decided to download and watch the series. May be the best weekend of my life. Just about fell out of my chair when River started to "fix" his…

Starting Strength -- best info on technique, you should totally buy the book If you already know your techniques, you can do StrongLifts. Mehdi doesn't explain well, but his routine is OK.

I do sometimes feel guilty for eating 1200 calories. For breakfast. It's a bit lower than I should be eating.

Why do I lift? "Because strong people are harder to kill, and more useful generally." - Mark Rippetoe. On that note, ditch the curls and pushups, and buy Starting Strength. I started with StrongLifts, but I don't think he gives nearly enough info on performing the lifts properly. And I got irritated at starting with just…
-
Seconded! I started with StrongLifts, but the info there on how to do the lifts properly was just far too lacking for me.

If you work really hard, and lift really heavy, you might get as bulky as these girls: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/987513-lifting-is-the-most-horrible-thing-to-a-woman-since-twiggy

What? You listened to reasoned arguments, and changed your mind? And ADMITTED it? Sorry -- that is unacceptable MFP behaviour. I'll have to report this post.

Ditto -- who is that?
