So you want to stay away from foods with high fat to lower your cholesterol. Avoid red meats, nuts, avocado, etc. You should be OK with carbs, but your focus (I'm assuming you're looking to build muscle), should complete proteins. Poultry, whey protein -- go nuts.

A power rack, bar, weights. Maybe a bench. http://startingstrength.com/index.php/site/equipment

Talk about a ghost thread. And the OP has deactivated even.

I tried a cheat day once a month. I figured, if I was at or under budget 30 days a month, 1 day couldn't be THAT bad, right? So one day a month, I'd just spend whatever I felt like, and not track it. The bank didn't think this was such a good idea.

Resistance training = good. Starting Strength, by Mark Rippetoe. You'll get strong, increase bone density... a host of other benefits. Not so much the burning of calories, but you won't care. Muscles take up less space than fat, and look way better anyway.

I agree with what most others say, but I have a few other questions. 1) You imply that he's spending time with his other friends, and not you. Is there some reason why you don't get included in with his other friends? 2) You said something about telling his other friends to "stop hogging him", and ask when you get to see…

C'mon OP -- you could have done this better. You could have posted an article like this one: http://pjmedia.com/lifestyle/2014/04/22/why-you-should-not-be-running/?singlepage=true

You see a lot of muscular marathoners do you? Please provide a picture. All the ones I can find don't look muscular to me. Sprinters, on the other hand.....

Losing weight comes from a calorie deficit. Cardio can help create a calorie deficit. And when you lose weight, you WILL lose muscle. It's inevitable. But if you're lifting, you will lose LESS muscle than if you aren't lifting. Plus, you'll end up looking a whole lot better if you lift. AND you'll be stronger, and…

Starting Strength. And buy the book, don't just look up stuff on the internet. I started out on Stronglifts, and a) felt I wasted a huge chunk of time following his "start with the bar" advice, and b) did that for MONTHS with nobody mentioning that my form was totally wrong. Rippetoe's reputation is getting new lifters…

QFT Sounds like you're getting lots of good advice. As for how to start? Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe. Seriously. Buy the book. If you're going to lift, you may as well take the time to do it RIGHT.

It is *possible* to eat too much protein, but you'd have to have FAR more than you did. Bodybuilders regularly exceed 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight, and they are fine. As for gaining weight -- that's a simple matter of calories. Eat more than you burn, you put on weight. Eat less than you burn, you lose weight. Macros…

Sounds like the thing to do is wait a few weeks, and see what happens to your weight. If it goes down, you can eat more, and be fine. If it stays the same, and you eat more, you're going to gain. Which isn't inherently bad, so long as you're aware of what will happen.

Wrong criteria -- you're a babe, not a baby. One little letter makes all the difference in the world.....

This is MFP, so I am now obliged to say, "Pics, or it didn't happen!"

How have I missed this thread before?!?

I started out doing StrongLifts, and was squatting just the empty bar -- so around 30% of my bodyweight, but to be honest, that didn't feel heavy, but I doubt I could have squatted my bodyweight if my life depended on it. Now, about a year later, I'm doing about 145% of my bodyweight. And I'm 25lbs heavier. And yes, there…

Beh -- why do we get to ignore the "20" in the middle of that?

As I just wrote to someone else -- "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe gives is a great routine, and gives tremendous detail on correct form. Some points: while you're building strength, it's a bit counter-productive to work on stamina at the same time. His recommendation would be to get strong (takes only 6 months or a…

I'm a guy, but I'll chime in here anyway -- "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe would be my recommendation. StrongLifts is a very similar routine, but I found him to be very light on proper technique -- or at least, i did once I discovered Starting Strength.

I used to run. I've never been more consistently, nor more seriously, injured, than when I was running. That's one reason I don't run. And ya, I "only" lift 3x a week. But I lift about as heavy as I can those 3 days a week, and I'm still really quite zonked the rest of that day, and pretty much the next day as well. It's…
