More & better pics, or how are we to know?

Repeat this to yourself over and over and over again. You don't get healthy from working out -- you get healthy from RECOVERING from working out.

I strongly suggest acquiring the book "Starting Strength". It'll teach you how to do the 5 main exercises properly. And you can do them in place of your strength training class. IMO you'd like the results. You might want to do that workout 3X a week in place of all your other workouts, at least for a few months.

Protein shake. Quest Protein Bar.

Sounds like you found a smart woman to give you advice -- I'd listen.

If you consume fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight, (assuming you don't have any metabolic conditions) regardless of the content of those calories. If you DID manage to subsist entirely on chocolate, your body would have a hard time building muscle, and you'd be seriously vitamin deficient, and generally…

My favourite workout in the morning involves a partner. I find I have little trouble getting... up for it.

Oh lord -- didn't realize it was that guy again. Le sigh....

Close. Caloric deficit = weight loss. Caloric deficit + weight lifting = fat loss. So ya, don't eat those 600 calories you were burning (really? 600? that's a lot!), and lift heavy, and I promise, you'll like the results.

Sounds more like a friend list problem than a public/friends-only diary problem.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You just totally derailed the thread! Oh, that is so horrible! NO MORE WORK TALK!!!

Best thread on MFP today!

I fixed it for you.

Yes, work with bodyweight squats until you get correct form. I'd buy Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe to get very detailed instructions on correct form. One thing I'd start with (from his book), your feet should be about shoulder width apart, maybe a bit wider, with your toes pointed out about 30 degrees, and then go…

This thread is BEGGING for a "pics or it didn't happen" quote.....

I had it done, and love it. But you do have to do it for the right reasons. Your vision will likely always be better with just glasses. But to see well enough, without having the hassle of glasses! They were constantly a pain with my motorcycle helmet, I hadn't yet figured out a system for scuba diving, in winter I'd walk…

Another vote for Starting Strength, which recommends a slightly different routine than SL. As someone put it to me -- Mehdi is a guy who wants to make money off the internet. Mark Rippetoe has decades of lifting and coaching experience. And you can find Starting Strength coaches in most places. You won't find any…

Honestly, Starting Strength will give you WAY more information about correct form than StrongLifts will. I'd go find the book. I bought mine off amazon.ca. Also, I read somewhere (can't remember where) Rippetoe talking about training a woman who couldn't do a bodyweight squat, so he had her started on 55lbs deadlifts to…

I lift, and I generally lift 3 times a week, which I suppose means I'm taking 4 rest days a week. I still do a fair bit of walking every day though. I guess it depends on how you define a rest day. But lifting heavy requires at least a day of relatively light activity in between to recover
-
Once you get to remotely heavy weights, it'll be way too much. I'd suggest looking up Starting Strength, or even StrongLifts for a solid weight lifting routine, and either of those will take up way less of your time than your routine. Mark Rippetoe, who wrote the book Starting Strength, has been coaching beginning weight…

I'm 5'8 (and a 1/2), and my TDEE is 2300 at 150 lbs. (Maintenance) But I'm relatively active. How much exercise are you doing, and are you eating the calories back?
-
Disagree -- it IS possible to do a body recomp, IE: lose fat and build muscle, at maintenance calories. I know, because I've done it. It takes longer, and it'll take longer for girls than guys (we have more testosterone), but it can be done.
-
Yup. And you can get in touch with Mark directly at his forums. http://startingstrength.com/resources/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=129

Excellent question. I didn't read all the replies, and I don't have kids, but I love the fact that you're concerned about not forcing them to eat their whole dinner before they get dessert. So I like the idea that dessert is not a "reward" for anything, especially not for eating a bunch of food for dinner. I guess my…
