  • Wish I could help ya, but I dont have/do Insanity - though i've heard its really good. You can do it this time!!!
  • Thx again to everyone! I knew there would be various responses - that's actually what I was hoping for. To lizzybeth102: Since you asked about it, we exchanged #'s after she and her family came back from a trip to Hawaii last yr. She wanted to set up a time for us to come over and see pics/video of the trip as she knew…
  • Under the same strict circumstances, I'd be fine with it (always and only in a public place). She comes/goes throughout the day and teaches zumba classes. When she comes home all sweaty I never second guess where she has been because in 16 yrs we've never had any reasons to not trust. As far as i know, we're very open and…
  • That's kind of what I was wondering/thinking too. But that's fine, I appreciate all the opinions expressed - keep them coming!
  • Different schedules and family needs. Her hubby is up till 1am and gets up later. She starts early so she can get out of work by 3pm when the kids get home from school. My wife teaches 6-8 zumba classes a week so doesnt belong to the gym. She gets our older 2 kids ready for school from 6-7 while i'm at gym. I get our…
  • Thx Linda! Maybe lawyers have a hard time trusting with all the lies they see and hear everyday - LOL (meaning him, not you)
  • would love to, but here in the north country winter weather won't be cooperative. I dont mind cool temps but snow, ice and bikes are not my thing. How about another spin - something for those of us who do a lot of indoor spin classes from now till spring? Don't mean to hijack you post, but i'd be open to something like that
  • I have the FT40, but if its a Polar you can't go wrong. It gets kind of addicting, actually, keeping track of the workouts. And i met someone recently who feels it saved her life from a heart problem discovered by bizarre HR readings on her monitor.
  • That sounds like a good schedule if its not too much. Since you're new to this you may want one more rest day in between. Gotta find a balance of listening to your body and not getting injured but also pushing through a little soreness. Good luck!
  • Get a heart rate monitor - otherwise its more/less a wild guess
  • First, congrats on joining the gym and making progress!!! Do you input your height/weight into the treadmill? If not, you should. If you are pushing and sweating that much then you should certainly be over 100 cals in 30 min. Maybe even quite a bit more. The best choice would be a good heart rate monitor programmed just…
  • BTW, I got mine on eBay for around $110, with the accessory to link it to their website if you want to track your workouts
  • You can search past posts and find LOTS of discussions about this. You'll see that most strongly prefer the Polar brand, with a chest strap. Don't skimp - get a good one the first time, even if you have to save up longer to do so. I LOVE my Polar FT-40
  • Let me be the first of many that will recommend the Polar brand. Look for a model with the features for your needs, or just start with a basic one
  • You unfortunately got married 5 yrs ago? LOL I know what you meant..... It's hard for us to give you too much advise as every person has different needs and we only know so much about you. Do they offer a consultation with a trainer/staff? Many gyms do for new members. If so, take advantage of it. Generally, like most are…
  • We sometimes cut grapes in half to use instead of jelly. I was skeptical at first but its actually a nice change now and then - try it!
  • Welcome! That sounds a little steep to me, but not impossible if you were REALLY pushing it the full hour at max HR. I'm a male, your height, just a little less weight and a little older and i can barely ever break 800 cals in an hour on my Polar FT40 - and thats in an all-out insanely tough workout maxing my HR over my…
  • Like a couple of the other replies, if I dont do it early it doesnt get done. I get my workout clothes and my work clothes out the night before so I dont wake the rest of the household scrambling around - not to mention being late getting out the door. I also have to set my alarm a ways away so I HAVE to get up to get it.…
  • I'm no expert, but I cant think of any good option that you'll notice an effect with in a 5 min car ride. There are zillions of workout products on the market but all i've ever read says to take way before that (usually 30-60 min before). And I wouldnt recomend eating much less than an hour or even two before a hard…
  • Something swimming related maybe?
  • We raise a few pigs each year. One for showing at the Fair (Won grand champion in August!), one for us and one for some friends. The bacon is SO much better, and leaner, than store-bought! Like Amycal said earlier in this post (before it took a turn to a comedy show-lol) you might trying to buy from a local farmer if you…
  • If its hard to even walk up stairs I'd say back off to 3 days/week for a while. Maybe fill in with another easy walk on those days off. Your body is trying to tell ya something. Then try going to 4 days/week for a few weeks, then back up to the 5 days. An alternative would be to still go 5 days but alternate the leg/cardio…
  • I agree (as usual) with Lindalee's comments. Her butt looks better.....(Sorry, couldnt refuse!) Really though, she's right on. I've been a regular for about 2 yrs now and have built a lot of friendships from it as well as the workout. Expect it to take time to get used to, and besides the shoes invest $30 in padded bike…
  • I agree most with Amycal on this one. Don't skip the workouts, but what you eat has a lot to do with it. Especially watch sugars and carbs as they are stored in the tummy area. There are books about this you can look up.
  • Stop running and see a physical therapist - dont make it worse by continuing to damage it
  • Just south of Grand Rapids (Byron Center). Born and raised here.
  • Just south of Grand Rapids
  • I run my own small business from home. I'm a real estate appraiser (commercial/industrial as well as residential). When we built our home 8 yrs ago I designed a 'bonus room' over our 3-stall garage with its own entrance seperate from the house. That way I can limit interuptions from kids, have an occasional visitor without…
  • Another vote for Polar. Maybe they should start giving us MFP'ers a referal discount on future purchases! I have an FT-40 that has been used for strength, cardio, kickboxing, spinning and biking, swimming, you name it and it has held up very well. Now, if it could just zap that last little bit of my belly at the same…
  • Oh, and click on the person name to get to their profile, then click 'add as friend'.
