For the veggies, try this: stir-fry or steam until they're still crunchy. Then take a pan and roast a tablespoon or so of breadcrumbs in a small amount of butter or oil and sprinkle them on top. Healthier than eating your veggies plain? No. But a lot better than coating them in batter, and you still get a little of that…

So, yesterday I rode two horses. Mine, and that of a friend who was sick. Dealer is the horse I'd originally gone to see when I decided to take on Jack instead. And now I'm glad of my decision at the time. Dealer is safe. Very safe. An excellent beginner's horse. He does exactly what he's told. But that's all. He doesn't…

I'm 5'4" (165cm) and currently weigh about 158 lbs (72 kg) - looking to lose another 22lbs/10kg or so. Always had hormone trouble, finally able to lose now it's sorted out!

Unfortunately, it's neither of those. I had surgery on my neck to remove a lump (benign, fortunately! Whew!) and in the process, they damaged the accessory nerve, which controls the whole shoulder. It wasn't severed, fortunately, but parts of it are permanently cut. So the signals just aren't getting through to a large…

Thanks. I'll try some of those. I'd really hoped it would have just gone away by now. Phooey.

I've got a degree in architecture and one in archaeology (or rather, heritage, from the archaeology department). My dream job would be reconstructing historic buildings. Just applied for a job doing exactly that in an open air museum, fingers crossed!

Are you sure the BodyMedia knows it's the horse moving that fast, not you running? And is that pure additional burn, or your TDEE?

I'm currently working as a ranger at a state care monument, but trying to break into architecture. (I have the degree but not the experience, nobody's building anything...)

Strangely, I've found I *can* keep just about everything in the house and not overdo it. Cakes and other baked goods are a problem, though, because I can tell myself they'll go stale if I don't eat them. Never liked the shop-bought ones anyway, but I now only bake if I'm taking it somewhere else or if it will freeze well.

Thanks - I'll see whether I can get any of those here.

Hah, that's the trouble, isn't it? Got back from a ride today and told one of the other girls that he panicked when he saw a truck coming. She said "are you sure it wasn't his rider that panicked"? But I suppose you're right. Just see what she wants me to do, it might not be all impossible.

I think around here, your "Gypsy Vanner" would be considered a plain old cob, and they're a dime a dozen  But I do love the big fluffy manes!

Have you tried ethnic shops? I used to live right between a Turkish supermarket and a Greek greengrocer - lovely fresh food, mostly unprocessed, for little money. Also, cutting out meat made my food bill way, way lower - all that processed meat is insanely high in sodium, raised inhumanely, and full of antibiotics, so…

I'm extremely picky - I don't think I've been physically attracted to anyone, ever. Just the way I'm wired. So for me, it's all about brains and personality.

Just got what a friend of mine calls an "oh ****" strap - an elasticated thing that snaps on to your front Ds and can be held like a crop along with your reins. She says it's a lot better than a neck strap - you always have it in your hand, can still move the reins normally (no fixed hand problem) and you don't lean…

Gaming nights are my downfall. The rest of the group brings so much junk food and keeps offering it to me...

Right. I haven't ridden in over a week because of the snow (couldn't get to the yard, let alone ride) but I'm going up tomorrow. And already panicking about it. We shall see how it goes, but maybe this is a sign.

Yes, I suppose that might be a solution. I'd feel guilty abandoning him, though!

I'm working 3 weekends out of 4 right now, with variable days off, and it's terrible. Forget meeting your friends more - they'll always be planning things for days you can't make it!

Are you sure you're taking into account standing around time? If you're doing an hour-long class, there's probably some chatting with classmates, some instruction, some waiting for other people to finish things etc. involved. My fencing class lasts two hours. I only log the parts where I'm actively fencing (not including…

Yes, I think you may be right - he's slightly too much horse for me, and really needs a professional to train him for a few weeks. But he's not mine. I'm loaning him. And I only make it out there 3 days per week, when really he could use work every day. The owner has ridden twice in the last four years. And she refuses to…

Yes, Mandy's back was totally messed up and she lay on the bit like anything. Couldn't flex, either. That was because she was driven a lot, but mainly because the owner was the old-school "sit down and kick on" type. He didn't care whether the saddle fit - he usually used the one where he liked the stirrups on all his…

Hi, nice to meet some fellow geeks! Last year for the gaming society's Halloween party, I simply bought an Iron Man mask, stuck fake eyelashes and lipstick on it, and wore it with the new medieval dress I'd just made - I went as Iron Maiden!

I don't "work out" - I get my exercise through an active lifestyle and fun activities that happen to burn calories! I walk. A lot. Both at work and for going places, as well as hikes - the longest we've done is 60 km (37 miles) in a day, across mountains! If it's too far to walk, I ride my bike, whether it's for shopping,…

I have MFP set to 1lb/week and "lightly active", but count my walking at work as exercise (from a pedometer) and eat it back, so I usually net about 1400 or have 1600-1800 total. I've been losing at 2lb/week, though, so maybe I've underestimated my activity level...

I think the kicking makes it a capriole, yes! I used to ride a mare (the one in front of the carriage in my ticker) who couldn't go into canter without bucking. That was interesting. Entertained a lot of dog walkers one day when I tried to canter in a field and ended up rodeoing across it...

You know, the four feet together and bounce, preferably sideways...

She says to sit up straight

Ok Tony, here's a question you might know the answer to: how does weather influence calorie burn? I'm a ranger, which as you can imagine involves a lot of working outdoors. We've currently got a lot of snow and 50+ mph winds. I'm logging/eating back activities like shovelling snow, but I still find myself wanting to eat…

My work uniform was baggy to start with. Now it's ridiculously baggy, but the boss says I can't have any new things until next year...
