  • Thought I'd post these weekly rather than daily. It's been rainy, so staying inside when I'm not at work. Still, work (+horse) adds up! 1. 11720 2. 13100 3. 20575 4. 11141 5. 11325 6. 11231 7. 15318 So that's 13487/day average so far.
  • I wear a pedometer and count the steps as exercise - though I use the calories the pedometer gives me, not MFP's, they're too high. I have myself set to "sedentary", but that's not true at all. I spend most of the day walking at work (I'm a ranger). Today, it was raining, so I only did 13.5km, but it can be loads more some…
  • Go to my school reunion and face up to all the old bullies with confidence.
  • Thanks, Dawn - I'll definitely keep that in mind. Alex Kurlands' is also the book I'm using. I was amazed how quickly Jack got it. But it's the same as with ground work - he's happy and cooperative during the "lesson", then tries to run all over me again afterward anyway. Still working on that. "Sending away" isn't…
  • Thanks. I never feed him out of hand normally (even now, I'm using a bowl, because he tends to be overly greedy), but he seems to think it'll be all treats all the time now! Think I might go to trying this at liberty in the big paddock, rather than his stall. That way, if he barges, I can still send him away, like we've…
  • Hmmm, something tells me you haven't actually researched this much, redraidergirl, so I think I'll stick with what the others are saying.
  • I'm afraid I need my stirrups because of Jack's tendency to bolt, but a treeless saddle works really well for me - you can feel the horse moving under you like you're bareback. NSV yesterday: noticed that my body protector is hitting the cantle. Annoying, but a sign that it's sitting lower now!
  • That's a good point - I suppose I should re-balance them to set the carbs to something lower. My doctor says to limit carbs but the dietitian seems to favour them above all else, so it's a big confusing...
  • Yes, but if you check my original post, you'll also see that I have a medical reason for trying to keep my carbs down... That said, I'm actually allergic to chicken - one of the reasons I went veggie!
  • Buying clothes is a chore rather than a pleasure for me. But I did just buy fabric to *make* new clothes - armour for historic fencing, to be exact. And finally got my own mask and rapier!
  • Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think I'll go the protein powder route - it seems far too artificial and processed. I do eat (low-fat) dairy - usually yoghurt for lunch. Not sure how I should go about getting protein from fruit. Do you have any suggestions? It seems to me that fruit has little to no protein,…
  • Hey, that sounds excellent! I think everyone could benefit from more work without stirrups, but I'm too chicken to try at the moment...
  • Don't like shopping for clothes and I'm not into designer stuff, so that's more a necessity than a reward. Once I get my condition up, I want to go on holiday. Not to visit my family for once - not to renovate my parents' house or help with my sister's baby - but to take some time and money for myself. Probably hiking in…
  • I don't work out. If I had to motivate myself to go to the gym or something, I'd never move at all. I don't believe in exercise for its own sake, bores me to tears. That said, I burn several thousand calories a week leading an active, outdoor lifestyle. Having an outdoorsy job helps, but I walk over 10km per day and bike…
  • Hmm, that's true, it is better not to put too much one-sided pressure on them. But still handy to be able to mount from the ground if needed... Here's Jack in his lovely (but heavy) new saddle pad!
  • How about dried fruit? I keep a supply of food in the car and in my backpack. Nuts, crackers, cereal bars, and dried fruit - if my blood sugar goes really low, I absolutely can't concentrate.
  • Exactly. This is like asking "which car should I drive, a Ford or a red one?"
  • Haha, I hate those crow hops!
  • Hey, those all sound excellent! Congrats to Tracey and Sheila for getting back in the saddle - And well done Bucky for mounting from the ground! Jack's only 15.2, and I still mount from a chair. I tell myself it's because it's better for him with a treeless saddle. I'm sort of hoping I don't shrink out of my best…
  • Today's hack was interesting - I took him out by himself and did manage to get him past the point where he always wants to turn back. We were mostly fine in the forest. Big scary van rumbling past? No problem. Helicopter overhead? Barely noticed it. Sheep with lambs? Run for your life!
  • We used to have our two German Shepherds pull our sledge around in the winter... Sounds like you're making good progress, congrats!
  • My father's Dutch, my mother's German, I went to 12 different schools on two continents and now I'm living in (Northern) Ireland. I'm not really "from" anywhere.
  • When I was in town earlier, I went into Evans. Found the curvy jeans and tried some on. The shape was perfect - unfortunately (?) the smallest size was about 2 sizes too big for me, so I need to go find a "normal" shop with similar cuts...
  • Feel free to add me - I'm only a year younger than you and with pretty much the same starting and GW. :) I'm a veggie, though, and tend to eat too much chocolate, so my diary might not be much use to you... Here's hoping for better luck for you this season!
  • Actually, only *Northern* Ireland is part of the UK. Ever heard of the Easter Rising?
  • I usually do over 10,000 every workday anyway, so what would be a reasonable number to set as a challenge for myself?
  • Trying the belt idea today - wearing what used to be my favourite dress and is now a bit too big. I think I'll just alter it eventually, but don't want to do that multiple times before I reach my goal weight!
  • Do you bake? Plenty of "dinner" options you could make at home that keep for at least a couple of days - like some sort of Cornish pasties.
  • See, that's the trouble. According to the standard (UK) size charts, I'm currently a size 12-14 waist, 18 hips, and 20 bust... But thanks for the tips, everyone, I'll check those out! I do wear a lot of dresses in my free time, but I'm a ranger, so I need trousers for work - which involves a lot of bending, so no low-cut…
  • Thanks, added. Do you not have time to game, or can't you find a group?
