Get yourself a BRIGHT blinky light to wear or carry. Seriously. In my experience, people steer farther away from a runner or cyclist with a blinky light than they do without. Next, take down her license number and report her. You shouldn't have to adjust your schedule to avoid the semi-awake morning driver.

Were you in the bike lane? I've had the opposite experience: I am riding in the right lane, the driver to my left decides he needs to turn now, looks at me, and makes the turn. Into me. Not fun.

I've seen lots of women wear exactly that at races I have done. Don't go buy anything new for your first tri--just wear what's comfortable. Throwing on a pair of shorts and a top is quick and easy. You also might want to bring a hat or visor (lots of people do) and a pair of sunglasses. You'll be set.

Re: risk assessment. When I was a foolish teenager, I went to light a cigarette with a candle. My friend took the candle from me and said, "no, no, that's bad for your health!" then gave me her lighter.

Jarabe de Palo (Spanish band) at State Theater in Arlington, VA. Before that: Dinosaur Jr. at the Black Cat in DC.

The Cure, Red Rocks Ampitheatre, summer 1987. What a great venue, and one of my favorite bands back then. Show was the. worst. ever. They played like there were 1000 places they would rather have been at the time. Second worst: Alabama, Fiddler's Green Ampitheatre, Denver. 1988? 1989? My dad and family friends had free…

"The Long Run", about the Comrades Marathon in South Africa. Great, inspiring movie about a hard-as-hell race!

My personal experience is that time of eating does matter, and I lose faster when I don't eat in the evening/close to bed, regardless of calories. I broke the habit by drinking a bottle of sparkling water every night. It feels like a treat, it tastes good, and it occupies my hands. I tried brushing my teeth after dinner…

"For me it'd be the treadmill because I burn more calories running at a constant speed than I do moving the pedals on the elliptical on my own. Basically, the treadmill forces me to maintain my level of effort and the ellipitcal doesn't." --x2.

That's got to be hard with the kids around and sick, too! Sweet potatoes seem like a great choice, and during the day, maybe even a banana or orange or fruit with easily-converted sugar (it looks like you are enjoying berries but I have no idea if they fall into that category).

Your appetite will return, but how is your bar exam stress? Could that be playing a role? Keep in mind that studying for the bar is very hard work and your brain might benefit from some carbs during the day. Good luck!

I think it's quite good and the fries are excellent--but it's really unhealthy, so I haven't been in a year or longer.

A banana and a cup of strong coffee.

where are you in Wisconsin? If you are near Madison, my first choice would be Berkeley Running Company on University (www.berkeleyrunningcompany.com). They really know their stuff and can do gait analysis with you. Plus, they are very friendly. Also in Madison and Middleton is Endurance House--again, good people with…

I started running at 330. It's doable. Start on some strength exercises for your legs, too, if you can. It will help. Also note that your knees or ankles may be sore for a while after you run, but that it will get better over time and shouldn't last more than a day. If they are sore before you run on non-consecutive days…

6' 3" here. It's good to be tall, except when I'm buying shirts!

I ride my bike to work most days, so that's 45 in the morning and 55 in the afternoon (slightly uphill going home). I can't do five days in a row, but M-T, Th-F works pretty well. I love it. The morning ride wakes me up and sets up the day; the afternoon ride is hard and works out workplace frustrations, stresses, etc. I'm…

Some days: both. Other days: morning. I like a hard workout in the morning before I eat anything; it sets up a good day. But I bike to work most days and the 2x/day workout is awesome.

Have fun! I've done one--a triathlon-turned-duathlon after the swim got cancelled b/c weather. It's a fun format. In my race, the first run was quite short (1 mile) so everyone went out hard. I don't know if that it usual. As for the bike and the 2nd run, the best advice for the bike is to ride at a pace that keeps your HR…

kcals and cals are the same thing. Most packages should have the total weight or volume on the outside, so if necessary you can figure it out from there. 100 grams is just under 4 oz/half a cup. Unless you need to be super precise, think of it that way. It will not take long to get used to metric measurements and you won't…

Mostly good advice here but ignore Raptilian's. Training for a century in September is ambitious but doable. It only requires time in the saddle and consistency. Like others have said, your body will get used to the saddle soon enough and soreness won't be much of an issue. Do continue to wear padded shorts and consider…

Increase my calories gradually and continue to log my food. I anticipate I will log my food for the rest of my life--it's the only way to keep myself honest and keep myself from sliding back into bad habits. I do not want to regain this weight ever again. Finding the right calorie level will take a month or two, I figure.…

The satisfaction I take from declining to eat the treats--exercising my self-discipline--carries me through the day. When I am tempted, I try to think past the satisfaction of eating the cake to the greater satisfaction of not eating the cake. When I am really, really, tempted I have a little then log it here right away to…
