Repost form earlier: http://www.nature.com/ijo/journal/v38/n5/full/ijo201432a.html "In summary, what are the best practices for ensuring a strong, unbiased body of obesity research? Certainly not refusing funding from those who wish to collaborate with scientists in becoming part of the solution; absolutely not by…

Try to find the entries that are in grams (or ounces) - most scale swill weigh both. Keep an eye out for database entries that do NOT have the asterix beside them. These almost always have a grams option

To the above poster - don't confuse the media with science. I actually agree people are jumping to conclusions about the study, but that is totally because of how the media has spun it - not the study itself.
-
Then enlighten us, oh wise one. Instead of posting YouTube videos not even related to the topic - why not post some information about aspartame that will show us heathens the light???

Funny thread. I actually agree saturated fat was wrongly demonized in the past. Ironically though, Joanne now demonizes sugar in the exact same fallacious way.

^Exactly (@whierd) - Plus some science related to the "chemical ****storm" he mentioned would have been more apropos

Never had any negative effects from diet soda whatsoever. I count it as a small piece of the puzzle that helped me lose weight this time.
-
This seems like a self-defeatist attitude to me. I'm not trying to be a jerk either, but I don't think that would be a mindset conducive to losing a lot of weight (i.e. worrying about what is going to happen when gaining it back). I'd also think that when others around you are vested in your weight loss (or show an…

OMG! Amazing job! You are absolutely inspiring! :flowerforyou:

Thanks, I plan on it. :indifferent:

I dunnnno about that actually. I think people overate micronutrient deficiency. http://jn.nutrition.org/content/early/2013/04/16/jn.112.172858.full.pdf+html Since the release of the Second Nutrition Report, we assessed the prevalence of multiple low biomarker concentrations in NHANES 2005–2006 to better estimate the burden…

Im hoping the "wow..." comment was in regards to Ed's incredible weight loss, but if not...learn more. Here is a study from the American Journal of Hypertension... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24651634 Not sure you can get full access to it for free but some highlights: There is a U shaped relationship between sodium…

That does sound nice - I def didn't want to draw conclusions on everyone and totally think the scenario you described happens far more often than maybe I give it credit for.

I think because often weddings are something that some women start planning/dreaming about from the time they are little girls. While guys just don't usually have that same interest. In fact, most (scratch that ALL) of the grooms I have known, just think of the cost, hate the idea of giving a speech and want it to be over…

Just some food (cake?) for thought... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y7Ov7Smk9g Danny Keane ingesting a large amount of evil sugar...4 days before his bodybuilding competition.

I'd counter by saying - Im not sure why anyone would then feel the need to point out someone is fat. If we indeed all know - then does hurling an insult from a moving car help? There are plenty of things that people are - and know they are (different races, speech impediment, different religions, dress horribly, poor,…

Well I was massive, and I have had plenty of random **** yelled at me from cars or in bars/parties. When I was 18-20 age it bothered me, and led to plenty of fights... but thankfully I grew up and stopped giving a ****. At least outwardly - it would still bother me a bit, but lashing out never helped anything. I found it…

I gotta try beets roasted, have only rocked pickled and enjoyed. I also have to look into how to make homemade sauerkraut, love that stuff but prefer homemade to the wine added varieties available in our local stores. Couple foods I love that might not be too commonplace: Salt Cod (bacalao) - My family hates it - I think…

Winner! My second choice is like my coffee - hot, black and on the table.

To be fair - I would and have mentioned it if someone was going to the extreme with calorie counting (like carrying food scale around) - just like I responded to someone making extreme claims about clean eating (sodium and added sugars means you wont be healthy for long).
-
Yes it can and I am sure you are right. Not sure what that has to do with the current conversation, or how it conflicts anything I have said.
-
I don't assume clean eating will lead to ON either. But considering that ON specifically revolves around an extreme or excessive preoccupation with avoiding foods perceived to be unhealthy, I think it is quite apropos to mention in a thread about clean eating. Especially considering some of the extreme views I have been…
-
Is offering another viewpoint "fear mongering" now? I'd say telling people they "wont be healthy for long (from eating added sugars and sodium)" (which is what I was responding too) is far more "fear mongering" (and outright false) than me listing a couple (real) potential pitfalls of clean eating (and clearly saying…
-
Recent pages of this thread are a perfect example of why clean eating is such a hot button topic here. People who don't believe in clean eating are apparently: "haters" "feeling guilty knowing they should make better food choices" "half of what we eat is disgusting" "not going to be healthy for very long"
-
Great OP!!

Could you back this viewpoint up with any type of proof or evidence? And is this the kind of questioning you find "unsupportive"? I personally think this kind of claim should NOT be supported on MFP because it is not true, for a certain part of the population it can be potentially dangerous (precursor to Orthorexia…
