  • IMHO your instincts are correct. The calorie (energy) expenditures of any mass depends on the weight of the mass moving. While I've found MFP to have escalated exercise calorie rates compared to my own HRM (my preference is the Polar F7), I believe my HRM is more accurate as it does request more physical information. I…
  • Even with my mother (size 3, her big size was 5) crying and telling me she'd lose the weight for me if she could, I didn't budge. I secretly hoped that a fairy would hand over a magic wand to my mom so she could lose that weight for me or that I'd wake up in the morning miraculously thin. Needless to say, neither the magic…
  • I totally get where she is coming from. Given the amount of weight she wants to lose, it is very overwhelming. Obviously, for those of us who started out 300+ pounds, we didn't have a clue how to eat. Add in a few health problems that you have to dance around with your nutritional intake and it does look like a 1500 piece…
  • I am with both you guys. I've tried, with some success, every "diet" out there. Diets do not work for me. It has to be a total lifestyle change. I use this site multiple times a day and only this site to log exercise, food and to research. I, too, keep up with several nutritional values i.e, sodium, sugar, etc.
  • I weight one time a week only, first thing in the morning. The body does fluctuate during the day, up to 5 pounds. When I don't make progress towards my goal, I review several areas, including getting enough calories, drinking enough water, getting enough rest and decreasing stress levels...which also impact weight. Too,…
  • Yet another vote for the Polar F7 for all the reasons given. I've used mine for a year or so and have had absolutely no trouble with it. Also, the wristband is very strong as I've 5 parrots that occasionally take a nip. The chest band is very comfortable. Absolutely well worth the money to make sure you are getting…
  • Like you, I had a large range of clothing as I'd have to replenish as I ate my way up, up and up.. As I began to lose weight, I tried on everything that seemed remotely in the reduced size. The minute it became to big, I put it in a bag that stayed in my closet to give to a women's shelter or other charity. Thus far, I've…
  • Ally ask yourself if taking that drink or drinks will get you any closer to the goal you set for July. Is it worth it? Only you can answer that but I vote that it isn't. Divert that attention. You'll thank yourself tomorrow! However, if you chose to have a drink, add all the calories up and work it off tomorrow.

  • While it is true that the fuller face helps creases out wrinkles, who wants to hear that stereotypical compliment of "You've got such a pretty face" with the unstated "Unfortunately, you are way overweight!" Diabetes doesn't make you or keep you fat and I know cuz I am a T2. You are a reality check for your step-mother.…
  • Amazing job! Like you, I started this journey because of a T2 diabetes diagnosis. In 9/09 at age 54, my A1C was 11.2 and I woefully needed to lose a LOT of weight. The first 3 months, I did low carb solely to get the A1C down but only lost 8 pounds. I then began healthy eating, organic mostly and really focusing on…
