I noticed a difference when I dropped my carb level to around 100 grams net of fiber. This for me fuels the fat burning furnace. But I am also doing 1 gm of protein per pound of LBM to keep everything else intact. I can see the fat decrease when I do my BF%. I tend to concentrate on it more than the overall pounds lost.

I agree with our friend with the physique. I would add that another culprit is the salt that goes so well with those carbs! Between the sodium causing retention and the carbs, you set yourself up for becoming a GoodYear blimp come Monday morning!

I have checked a couple of sites and 1 cup of skim milk contains about 12 grams of sugar. If it had zero then Lactose intolerant folks could drink all the skim they wanted. Lactose = sugar.

2200 is not too much for a guy your size. Your macros are good. You may want to add a sodium tracker to diary. You do a lot of processed food and that will hold water like a sponge. Been there, done that and have a 4XL t-shirt to prove it!! You could up your calories a bit and it would not hurt you. You could also try and…

You don't have a lot of weight to lose in this context. How about TDEE -10% which will keep you above your BMR and just prolong your goals by a couple of weeks. If you had 50-100 lbs or so to lose then you can run at greater deficits and even below your BMR because you would have a lot of fat calories available to run your…

Tiffany, your BMR which is the minimum necessary for maintaining your body (not including the little guy) at your current weight is around 1750-1800. That would put your TDEE around 2160 if all you did was watch TV everyday. 1500 calories is a 20% deficit before you start walking around. If you are trying not to have a…

Liz, I agree with the others in watching the dried fruit. It is one of those "healthy" things that are not healthy because they are so much more calorie dense then the fresh fruit. You can mix your protein powder in with your oatmeal to boost your protein. The oatmeal and granola is a bit of carb overload. The protein in…

I am 6' 6" and currently 273 (HW was 360 - norm 310-320). My LBM is 198 so I am shooting for 230 which would give me a 15% BF. I have never been that thin in my life. My weight goal may change based upon LBM changes because I am focused on the 15% BF. If I can gain muscle mass by reading the Starting Strength and 5x5 books…

Your 60 minutes a day of cardio on top of a major weight loss can be a stressor on your system. People don't give credit to the hormonal effects on the body. Look at your calorie count and be sure it is enough to sustain that activity level. You may also look at your macros too. I hit a several month plateau and started…

I cracked the head of my humerous (upper arm bone) a few years ago and have been clunking ever since. What has helped is to do exercises specifically aimed at rehabing the shoulder joint. Look up Rotator Cuff exercises for specifics. I still have very little strength. It is funny to see a 6'6' 280# guy using pink Barbie…

I am not sure that information from the Canadian Wheat Board would be considered a non-biased source of info. Let's have the Diabetetics read the National Sugar Council info for help with their condition
Yes, ignore all the citations at the end of the article.
Sir, I have looked at most of the…

What method did you use to set your Activity Level in MFP. FitBit activitiy automatically comes over and updates MFP and gives you the calories if they are above the Total Daily Energy Expendenture you set (Sedentary, Lightly Active, etc).

I never thought of elliptical as a pansy cardio workout. Crank up that resistance. I always thought those treadmill folks were the pansies!!!

HI, I lost 90 lbs with Optifast under medical supervision. Unfortunately I did not make the lifestyle and eating changes necessary to support a person at my new weight. I gained back 70 of those 90 lbs. I then began to track my caloric intake and see my choices through tracking. I joined the Y and began exercising and over…

Just a thought... what would happen if you didn't get loaded this weekend? Your calorie count would be less from the booze, you wouldn't have the drunk munchies, and.... you would remember what you said and who you said it too. Your liver will thank you and you will have a lot less embarrassing pictures in Facebook!!!

I have had my Vitamix over 30 years. It is a workhorse!

Fat helps transport fat soluble vitamins, increases satiety, fish oils help reduce arterial inflammation, and keep insulin levels down. At 18 most of this won't impact you but for a life long change it is good to take in a decent amount of quality fats.

This is quite interesting from a guy who Intermittent Fasts and has Chicken Breasts for breakfast. I don't remember Ozzie and Harriet serviing that up for the Nelson kids. I am not throwing stones, I am not a Paleo person but we are all delusional here in one way or the other. I am ovo-lacto and low carb - Just my personal…

100 pound weight loss is achieved through lifestyle changes. You said you lacked motivation after the first 30 lbs you lose. Are your exercise goals realistic? Do you enjoy working out daily? Let's say realistically your exercise consisted of playing with one or all of the 7 kids routinely. So this would be light…

Sean - what is your daily calorie count? Has it changed since you became a certified gym rat? LOL. To go from couch potatoe to gym rat in one fell swoop along with a large calorie deficit puts a tremendous stress on your body. Your body responds to the stress to protect you. One of those things is the hormone cortisol. It…

@Mike, at 62 and 230 your BMR is 2233 and a desk job activity level gives you a TDEE of 2680. So if you set your deficit to 20% less than TDEE you would get 2144 which is as low as you safely can go for the short term. Your current 1700 or so is way below that. If you add your exercise deficit on top of that your body is…

Kara, you wll be asked for your specific information like height & weight and what activity level you gave so that the forum members can intelligently respond. 1200 calories is the minimum you will ever see MFP give even if you are 90 lbs and you want to lose 2 lbs per week.

@Ricki - I think Fox was addressing folks who try to replace meals with juicing. Without the pulp, a nutritious carrot and apple turn into a high glycemic load for delivering their vitamins and minerals. You also have too look and see what enzymes have affinitiy for the pulp and are removed with it. From a nutritional…

They typically tell bariatric surgery patients to give themselves about 2 years post weight-loss to decide if surgery is needed. I think your nutritional status along with your genes will be the final determination. I would make sure you are getting enough protein and fats to keep the skin supple. Collagen, which is the…

@Dimento - I too am 6'6" and was 340 (actually my highest was 360). I started to become more mindful of what I was eating and worked out "religiously" in the gym 5 days/week. I was overzealous in my calorie deprivation and intensity of the gym. I burned myself out endocrinologically. I was on a plateau at 290 that I could…

MFP will allow you to go below your BMR but not below 1200 which is considered the minimal amount of calories that can provide enough micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, etc) to keep you healthy. The calculations are fine. It is a problem of wrapping your head around all of this  which is to be expected in the…
-
@Suzi - Your BMR is how many calories it takes to keep you alive while you are asleep. When you wake up and move then you are adding calories. So 1337 calories will just keep your heart running. Now to get your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) you apply your activity levels e.g. Sedantary, Light, Moderate, Heavy. This…

@Ashley I see your Almond MIlk has 15 gms of sugar. Can you do the unsweetened Almond Milk and maybe use Xylitol or similar non-sugar substitute? Also that Dannon is not as Lite & Fit as the name would suggest. It is relatively high in sugar. If you don't like eggs then the soft tofu could be a help. You can get cartons of…

@ Bobby I guess I have a couple of questions that may help you define your goals. Why are you doing 1000 cals of exerciese per day? Logically if you have 400-500 cals left per day then you could cut back the gym time to 500 cals and be even. If you must do 1000 cals per day of exercise then you can just quit eating low fat…
