Stretching and walking helps me a lot. I find that the soreness lasts longer if I'm inactive after lifting. Make sure you get extra water, and ibuprofen helps too. Also, don't worry too much about hurting yourself if you're lifting appropriate weight when you're sore. You should be fine.

Try to figure out how much time you spent idle v.s. walking. Then log that as hiking.

You measured walking with the fitbit, and the other exercise with the polar. Maybe one (or both) do not measure accurately. Try the 45 minute walk with the Polar and see what result it gives you. Been losing weight since before I started MFP. I'm closing in on a gold brick. When I hit the mark before that (Irish Setter), I calculated the weight loss in M&M's. It came to 14,306.
