  • My employer is doing a program where they will give us money back from our insurance premium if we get into certain BMI ranges, quit smoking, and achieve certain fitness levels. It's what got me to finally exercise, and watch what I eat, again. That being said, I've seen more people obtaining sports related injuries than…
  • Hahahahaha!!!! That's what I had before she became my ex. My current wife, and I usually do our own thing. She does her laundry, I do mine. She cooks her meals, I cook mine. It works out great. To the OP, I hear climbing the corporate ladder is tough. Sometimes sacrifices like yours have to be made in order to…
  • Is there a difference between sitting on a machine for your 2 minute rest set or texting? It is still taking up the machine so someone else can't use it. Personally I usually use my rest time to change weight, stretch, and get a drink of water, but there are times I will just sit there, too.
  • If you've lost a lot of weight recently, that skinny-fat could, partly, be due to extra skin. It takes time for the skin to shrink back down to the point that it is not saggy. Give it time, but I would recommend doing some form of resistance training to build muscle mass, as that is the best way to get rid of the…
  • I also use the Jefit app to track my workout, and time my rest sets. I also use my phone for music. I usually ignore texts, and calls during my workout.
  • Dumbbells are great for some exercises, Machines work good for others, and barbells work best for some of the compound movements. The nice thing about dumbbells, and machines is that you can do them without a spotter, the bad thing is that it is harder to make real good strength gains with dumbbells. lifts like squats,…
  • Most trainers will put inexperienced people on machines instead of free weights. They are less complicated, and harder to mess up your form. They will also start you out very light. to help your muscles to more slowly adapt. Many new people will give up if they get severe muscle soreness after a workout. Try following the…
  • This is my 3rd go around in 5 years. I have pants that range from 28 waist, to 38.
  • I only want one, and she was happy with me when I was fat. :) I am trying to lose weight for me, for my health, my self esteem, and my employer is reducing our insurance costs if we can hit certain BMI ranges, and VO2 max levels.
  • If I don't cook enough for leftovers, it is usually 2 to 3 meals per day 7 days per week.
  • I've seen more muscle soreness in my calves doing them very slowly, with a pause at the top, and bottom, for high reps, than I ever have with high weight. I usually mix them up with either on the leg press with heavy weight, seated calf raises, or the machine that is for calf raises, then add in some, high rep single leg…
  • What about the v-bar pull up where your palms are facing each other? Is there any advantage to doing "Rocky pull ups"? (If I understand them correctly you alternate putting your head in front of, and behind the bar.)
  • Boobs may work if they are 'D' cup, or larger. I've heard of many men trying this technique with their chest, and breaking their sternum.
  • I pointed that out to my wife as I watched it. Wrist straps don't do anything for bench pressing. There's no challenge to grip in that position.
  • I have seen an ab workout that consisted of having someone whack you in the gut with a bamboo stick. 300 + lbs of barbell hitting the gut would probably be quite an ab workout.
  • I won $80 off a quarter in quarter keno, once. That is the only time I won anything gambling. I won $400 at work the other day for the weight loss contest they have going.
  • Sorry. Facebook was down when I first saw this. The first one shows the advantage of a beer belly. That second one will probably have one side of his chest bigger than the other one. Hahahahaha!!!
  • I'll use it as a topping on my protein pudding, my fruit, and oatmeal, protein lava cake, protein pie, and protein ice cream. and Hot cocoa.

  • I work rotating shifts. When I'm on days I get up between 2:45 and 3:00 Am, in order to get a workout in before work. I hate going to the gym after work. I would much rather go to be a little earlier to workout before. It seems to make my day go better.
  • For me, while I rarely use the personal trainers at the gyms I go to, I will ask them a few questions to check their knowledge. If they seem to know more than I do, I will respect their opinions, and take their advice. I agree, an extremely obese PT would probably lose my respect, but I have been thin, fat, thin, then fat,…
  • We had a trainer here that decided to gain weight, and get fat because his clients told him that he couldn't understand their situation, because he had been fit his whole life. He gained about 50 lbs, and then lost it again. He now understands some of the problems his clients face with food addictions, and weight loss.…
  • Classes are usually more of a circuit training type of workout. If you superset a lot, circuit training will give you a closer calorie burn than strength training. (under cardio). It is all guess work, there are too many variables like; How long are your rest sets, muscles worked, compound vs isolation work, etc. (A heavy…
  • Why just upper body? Since your largest muscles are in your lower body, metabolically, you will get the greatest benefit from working your lower body, too. Flabby arms are more related to fat, than muscle. you can't spot reduce fat, but by working the muscles in your whole body, it will tone your arms, abs, legs, and…
  • I've got a planet fitness less than a half mile away from my apartment. I have a 24 hour fitness about a quarter mile away. I am a member of both. I can take my kids to workout at Planet fitness, I can also use the tanning, or massage chairs, and they have better cardio equipment with more tv channels to watch than the 24…
  • Tanita scales are pretty good. They are a lot more accurate than the ones you find in your local stores. The gym I used to go to used one. When I was at my leanest, it had me at 6% body fat, but I told it I was 5'9", when I'm really 5' 8 1/2". My calipers had me at 10% body fat. I don't know if the half inch was the…
  • I will usually buy a big thing of spinach from Costco. Then, since I can't eat it all before it goes bad, I will blend it with a little bit of water, (just enough to get it to blend, then freeze it in a muffin pan. Pop out the frozen spinach, put it in plastic baggies, and use one, or two for each shake. I found the idea…
  • I was a little scared to try it, at first. The spinach really doesn't change the flavor at all. I just followed the recipe I had for a mint shake, and added spinach to it, too. Chocolate protein makes it a greenish brown color. Vanilla comes out just green. They both taste good, but the vanilla looks more like mint ice…
  • I wasn't impressed with Kale, either. I usually just put a half banana, half a cup of skim milk, protein powder, splenda, and peppermint extract in with my spinach. It tastes like mint ice cream, and if you use vanilla whey, it looks almost like it, too. If I have calories to spare, I'll even add a few dark chocolate chips.
