Congratulations. Anyone who wants to call themselves a power lifter, or bodybuilder would probably rather be in the overweight, or the obese category on the BMI scale. When I talked to a nutritionist, and she asked what my goal weight was, and why I had it, she told me not to shoot so low, but that it would be an…

The biggest problem with dumbbells is having enough grip strength to challenge your quads, glutes, and hamstrings in the same way you can do it with barbell back squats. It also brings back the issue of: "What's the difference between a dumbbell squat that starts from the ground, and a dumbbell dead lift that starts from…

Bosu balls are great for balance, but I think her issue is more related to form than balance. She won't see great results in her glutes, or quads with a bosu ball, as she would be forced to go lighter than she is already going. An olympic barbell weighs about 45 lbs. That may be too much weight for her to squat, right now.…

It's been 25 years since I have taken a Chemistry, or Physics class, but isn't the definition of a calorie, "the amount of energy needed to increase the temperature of a cubic centimeter of water 1 degree celcius"? To the OP: No it doesn't work. If it did I would have been totally ripped in my last job from sweating all…

Dips can be done between two kitchen chairs, you could also do weighted bench dips putting the plates on your waist, holding onto a bench or chair to dip down. For Deadlifts, single leg deadlifts work, but are hard to balance. You could always use a bench or chair behind you to cradle your other leg for single leg squats,…

There are too many things to factor in that haven't been mentioned....Work schedule, other workouts, family, sleep, diet, stress, etc. Most people work Monday, through Friday, so an energy boost on Saturday could be from less stress, or excitement for being off for the weekend. Mental state has a lot to do with energy…

I love Lucky Charms. Lately I've been eating Chocolate Marshmallow Mateys. I prefer them to chocolate Lucky Charms. They are basically Coco puffs with marshmallows. The days I eat them are usually the only days I reach MFP's iron recommendations. Unfortunately, they aren't very high in fiber. I didn't really care for the…

Oh, Come on! I thought you had your own squat rack...

I'm not really a big fan of colas, especially diet. Out of the two I prefer Coke Zero, but when I do drink soda, it is usually at a restaurant, or movie, so my choice is either drink a ton of calories with full sugar soda, or Diet Coke. It ends up being Diet Coke, most of the time.

No. It definitely doesn't apply to me. I'm not even Metro. I have to ask my wife which color Levis to wear with my shirts. Due to religious upbringing I didn't understand gays. It wasn't until I read something written by a gay man that said, basically that seeing heteros kiss was revolting to him, that I was able to put…

I've never seen that statement before this post. I don't play in all the forums, though. I will admit, I am still homophobic. I grew up in a very religious, very conservative community. I had never even heard the term "Gay" until I was 12. My opinions have changed dramatically in the last 25 years, but I refuse to watch…

That's the way my wife was, too. We never would have met without a dating site, and since we were both a little older, and independent, my wife never would have put up with me if I would have expected her to be the "50s housewife" type. Our relationship is completely different than most, but it is wonderful, as it fits…

I met my wife on an online dating site. I have heard horror stories from others about it, though. Neither my wife, nor I can really say what drove us to go onto a dating site. It worked out for us, though.

Since most vegetables are grown in the ground, does that apply to them? Dirt isn't exactly clean, and I never liked most vegetables, anyway...Since 2 of those apply to me, does that make it a double negative? Please tell me I don't have to eat my vegetables...

You can make strength gains while at a deficit, but they won't be as fast, or consistent. If you are losing strength, you have probably cut your calories too low.

Look for some videos on youtube. I think I saw some on either the Starting Strength Website or on Youtube about how some women that have good flexibility on their hips tend to overextend their back. Look for the ones with Mark Rippetoe. Make sure you are tightening your core, you may want to look into a lifting belt to use…

Intervals. Go for a minute as fast as you can, then either walk, or jog for a minute, then sprint, again. Do this for 20 minutes. Intervals also work well on the elliptical. Most are already pre-programmed with an interval function on the machine.

There's nothing wrong with Tuna before bed.... As long as you brush your teeth, after. Having tuna breath may give you some funky dreams. I've seen it recommended to eat a casein protein before bed as it is supposed to be a slower working protein, and will fuel your muscle recovery while you sleep. Milk, cottage cheese, or…

Read the book Starting Strength, follow the routine. Many times people new to lifting can make "newbie gains" while at a slight caloric deficit. You never know if you can do it, unless you try it. Most of my lifting has been at a caloric deficit, I've made strength gains, but I doubt I've made muscle gains, but my muscles…

On a treadmill, or elliptical, this may be almost correct, but since a stationary bike remains stationary, your weight has no effect on caloric burn. Stationary bikes get their information based upon the resistance of force necessary to move the pedals. Since MFP doesn't account for the resistance, it's numbers will be…

Push-ups, pull-ups, dips....

A calorie is a calorie, but some foods will bloat you, and make you retain water. When you retain water, the scale sometimes moves up, making you think you are gaining weight.

I've actually read that doing cardio after working your legs will actually help with muscle soreness. It's kinda like doing stretching after a workout. Just do your weight training prior to your cardio, and you should be okay.

I'll add cinnamon to my apple pie a la mode shake that I got out of the Eating For life book. I believe it is: 6 ounces of apple juice 1/2 tsp cinnamon, divided 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein 2 tbsp fat free, or light whipping cream. about 6 ice cubes Blend protein, apple juice ice cubes, and 1/4 tsp cinnamon, then top…

I'm 43 years old. I started out around 30% body fat, and am currently between 11 and 15%. As long as I stay motivated, I lose weight pretty well. It's the gaining muscle that I struggle with.

I'm at about 2250. Still trying to figure out my exact maintenance. I eat back my calories on work days since my job is physical, at times.

3X8 is a good rep range. Just make sure to try to improve with every workout. Either add weight, or on your next workout try for 9 reps. When you can do more than 10 to 12 reps, increase the weight and go back to 8 reps.

I work at a plant that has beams, pipes, and rebar hanging all over the place. I am fortunate enough to have 2 pieces of rebar welded to a beam at the perfect height, and location for pull ups. We also have some hand rails that have been bent and are about the right distance for dips. The only problem is they are located…

We had a janitor at work named Jack Imhoff. I also used to work with a lady named Marci Fagg. Her maiden name was Ferre.
