One more question, have you have a full thyroid panel (min. free T3, free T4, TSH, anti-thyroid peroxidase, possibly anti-thyroglobulin? DH has Hashimoto's and has a very hard time losing when his thyroid is hypo (he does take medication, but Hashimoto's makes treatment difficult).

In the animal portions of the study they say the protein levels but I don't see what it says about carb levels. Standard mouse chow is full of crappy carbohydrates. So any results they get cannot be completely isolated from the fact that the mice were eating tons of carbohydrates while the protein levels were varied.…

1) Are you currently exercising (sounds like yes)? Phinney and Volek say obese individuals may need to hold off on that until closer to goal weight. I am. :) 2) Have you tried any supplements for insulin/blood glucose support, or just the metformin? I haven't personally, but I know some people use berberine, it is supposed…

The study from this article (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S155041311400062X) tells us nothing about low carbohydrate diets. The average person in the human study (an epidemiological study) was eating 51% of calories from carbohydrates. It was not looking at low carbohydrate consumption at all. Plus, as…

I have two corned beef brisket points in the fridge. Don't plan to eat it tomorrow, actually, but the brine doesn't add enough carbs for me to worry about.

No, I have never heard of this. In fact, I have heard the opposite (ketogenic diets are cancer preventative). Can you cite the original peer-reviewed study? I would be happy to dissect it. I have access to many scientific journals through my employer.

Also, I like to mix cream cheese and regular cheese (shredded) in my jalapeno poppers. It doesn't need to be all of one. If you don't like cheddar, try Monterey jack, it's quite a bit milder.

No. Pretty much all dairy except for butter has some carbs. The lowest I have found recently is Kraft Philadelphia Deli Style Cream Cheese which has <1 g carb/2 Tbsp (24 g) serving. I find it at Costco, not at the regular grocery store. I also have been buying Philadelphia nefuchatel cheese (labeled as "1/3 less fat than…

The level of protein you are eating should not be a problem, especially if you are fairly active and don't have any medical issues. From your diary, you also are eating plenty of fat, which is good as well.

High protein, low fat, low carb can be dangerous. Google "rabbit starvation". If you are going to eat high protein, you need to also have high fat or high carbs.

I avoided tuna for about 10 years (childbearing years). I now eat Wild Planet brand tuna occasionally. I wouldn't eat it daily, personally. You can google to find the best types/lowest mercury.

Maybe because your post sounds like advertising/spam?

Yes, I do. Please do head over to the groups posted above, lots of support there.

Eat more meat, eggs, full-fat dairy, nuts and nut butters.
-
Is that percent or grams? I hope percent, cause grams would be too low on protein...but it doesn't add up to 100%.
-
Plenty of people eat 25 g carbs/day. It has nothing to do with how many calories you eat. If you want to eat more calories, you add more fat.
-
This should be a sticky.

I agree with this. The problem is, when someone is of "normal" body weight and they get sick no one blames their diet, when that is where much of the blame should go. When a fat person gets sick, it gets blamed on their obesity, and thus indirectly their diet, but more so that fact that they are fat. I am a firm believer…

If you have been eating at a calorie deficit since January, low carb is not necessarily going to do anything magical to speed up your weight loss. Losing a pound a week is good.
-
I have no idea if this is it, but there is actually a rounding error when we say 4, 4 an 9 calories per gram for the macronutrients (so they are each actually a tiny bit higher or lower). I remember learning about this in biochemistry class, but I can't find a reference right now. If MFP is that sophisticated (and I'm not…

I haven't dealt with this, but I don't talk in depth with my diet with anyone IRL except my husband. Honestly I wouldn't have second thoughts about cutting this person out. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Lauren, I think it is ok to use the ketostix at the beginning of your low carb journey to give you some understanding that you are indeed making ketones. But the darkness doesn't mean much. After a while, many keto-adapted individuals don't show ketones in the urine, as the type in the urine are a waste product and not…

Oh, I get it. You made the Fathead crust with something like Carbquik instead of almond flour? And now regular high fat stuff doesn't sound good? I don't have that issue myself, but I have been tested and I don't have any gluten/wheat intolerances/allergies. Maybe you do? Sounds like it would be best to avoid for now. Take…

Seriously. I know this is a public group but common courtesy should dictate that discussion of all types of low carb diets is safe here, without the trollish comments we get from every main forum posting about low carb.

I agree to look for foods containing xylitol if you want something sweet with the side effect of being good for your teeth. I brush my teeth with toothpaste containing xylitol. There are lots of sugar free candies made with xylitol (google "xylitol candy"). I like Ice Chips, Spry mints and gums and others.

Was it from the toppings you used? Because the Fathead crust bakes up bready, not greasy at all.

There is a whole bunch of stuff out there about cold in general being good for weight loss. But I have a medical issue that means being cold is bad news for me, so I keep myself warm and drink cool to room temp beverages most of the time.

Most people are still in ketosis at 30-40 net carbs/day. So I think you are fine. Atkins says to only increase 5 net carbs/day per week though, so you jumped ahead a bit. But if you are feeling good, don't have hunger/cravings and are losing weight then it is all good. And I agree the ketostix (urine) are fairly…

I agree with the 100 g/day or lower for low carb, but most people on low carb eat protein the same as anyone else and eat more fat.

Why are you setting such a high deficit? Try 25% and see how the numbers come out.
