Our club recently picked up some pro style ones, Bells of Steel. The handles are some kind of brushed metal so much smoother than on my York ones. I don't like them for 2 handed swings, but for anything involving 1 hand, they're great. They clean to rack position nicely because of the way they sit on your arm. Haven't…

Any of the training scenes from the first & second 36th Chamber of Shaolin movies.

Innis & Gunn Mill Street products (any - Coffee Porter, Vanilla Porter, Organic, Lemon Tea, etc) Post Road Pumpkin Mad Tom IPA ...and likely the next beer that i've never tried before. For a regular old beer kind of beer, Steamwhistle.

To get started with the 2 handed swing, which is really the foundation for all kettlebell stuff, Tracey Refkind would be a good person to google for information. SHE knows her stuff. If you want to go beyond 2 handed swings, try googling Pavel.

The guys at the plumbing supply store looked worried when i was buying all the parts to make it.

I use wooden Indian Clubs for shoulder mobility. For those, i purchased some stuff from Dragon Door (Club Swinging Essentials) to help get me going. I've got some basic exercises that i've cobbled together from the book/dvd. Odd story: i recently found several sets of old Indian Clubs in the back of the supply room in the…

I have a wonky knee that often feels bad on the outside of knee cap, but i don't find that swings hurt or bother it at all. I don't squat particularly deep while swinging. But as mentioned, if your knee is really bugging you, you could do various presses to help keep you going. I also like to do an exercise i call "around…

I'm still at an early learning stage with the Turkish Get-up but am fascinated by it. That's something i look forward to working on. But basically, ANYTHING that gets the bell up over my head is a favourite because all winter long i can't do lifts due to low ceiling height in my basement...so any chance to try anything…

I usually bicycle on my non-kettlebell days. It still burns quite a few calories & can be pretty easy on the body if you don't push it. I just got back from a 1 hour easy mountain bike ride & burned around 600 calories. I've also been trying out a TRX recently on off days which has been challenging & fun. Yoga or…

I used to not care much about cats until my girlfriend moved in & brought 2 along with her. Now i like them. We have good times.

All of the above is true, but ultimately, you shouldn't be getting hassled (read: harassed) on this board. I hope the moderators do something about it if you've reported it to them.

I mean that i only want to cover the area that i need to & no more. I get blisters at the base of my fingers & sometimes on the outer side of my pinky. The first pictures that you have there (from the blog) are the way i do it. Initially, i made the sock things big enough that they covered the bulk of my hand (like the…

I use York kettlebells & often they come with burrs, snags, ridges, etc. I've destroyed my hands in mere seconds before realizing that one of those ridges or burrs was hiding out on the underside of the handle. The sock trick should help - the key is not to make it too big. I did that the first few times & i didn't have…

I forgot to mention that if my calluses do get ripped off, i'll usually throw some sports tape over top of them. It doesn't always hold in the hot weather though, but sometimes it helps. I've heard of people filling in the trimmed calluses with crazy glue but i've not gone that far...

I try to trim the calluses down but haven't actually come up with a method that works. Usually stuff gets ripped off & that's no fun. Right now my calluses are just there & not causing grief (because i've not been doing snatches all winter), but since the club i go to has just started up again, this will soon become a…

Can you hire a trainer or take classes lead by one? They usually are able to motivate you enough to go well beyond what you think you can do (i.e. they don't let you give up when you want to).

I mostly do swings these days due to indoor space limitations. I usually use a 40 or 45 lb bell depending on the day for one or 2 handed swings. The weather has been so good this week here that i've been able to get outside & do kettlebell stuff, and for that i've downgraded to a 35 lb bell for snatches (to ease myself…

Exactly - the end of "The Dark Knight Returns" illustrated that scenario rather well. Batman should really take a recovery day.

I took a stage movement course for theatre when i was in university. The instructor had us do a really difficult & intense series of movements very slowly for 1 hour straight (it was killer hard). She warned us in advance that often people would cry, sometimes intensely, as the body stores up tension from emotion, etc and…

OK, that is cool!!

I see swing, i think "kettlebells". So naive...so, yes, i swing too. I like using them because i can burn a lot of calories & get a good workout in a very short time, but can also extend workouts for longer too on days when i've got more time on hand.

I've been reading the comics for years. A lot of folks i've talked to hate the show, but i'm liking it a lot. I like Glen & Dale the most. If Michonne ever shows up, she'll probably be my fav character.

I occasionally play in a wedding band. Some popular song choices for first dances are At Last (Etta James) & January Wedding (the Avett Brothers). I've Had the Time of My Life seems to be a pretty popular request too, though not for a first song.

Real maple syrup, real butter. Then i have a real workout later to make up for it. Since pancakes are a once in a while treat, it's no big deal.

Welcome! When i'm stuck for time (i.e. if there's a day when i only have 15 or 20 minutes to exercise), this is what i do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCsVnvubjYo . Burpees & 2 handed swings done in a descending/ascending sequence going down by 5/up by 5 for a total of 6 rounds, so: 30 burpees/20 swings, then 25…

If we're talking an actual migraine (as opposed to just a headache or bad headache), then no, absolutely not. For me, that would be ridiculous. I've had migraines so bad that i can't stand up or talk let alone lift a heavy weight up over my head. I cannot imagine trying to exercise under those conditions - it would be…

Mine's just a generic 14 dollar one from Canadian Tire. It's been really handy and made a difference in logging my food. A good feature is the one where you can "zero out" items on the scale i.e. put the plate down, push the button to zero it out so the scale reads 0. Then put an item of food on, get the measurement…

Laser eye surgery. And by that i mean i'd have surgery so i could shoot lasers directly out of my eyes. I think that would come in handy.

Hi group, I'm TJ. I have been working with kettlebells for about a year, so not that long. Started on my own by using Pavel's book & watching videos online. Joined an outdoor club last spring that was fantastic...sad that the club doesn't run through the winter months but it's Canada. I am still swinging though, but can't…
