  • My first experience with the free weight section was awesome. I asked one guy where the squat bar was and another helped me by setting up the squat rack for me. It has been my experience the guys are more than willing to help before they even think about passing judgement.
  • I only have 3 workouts under my belt so far but I also love it. It can really challenge you to achieve so much more!
  • I recommend New Rules in Lifting for Women. It has 5 exercises every workout (A and B workouts) that rely on the push/pull method. I am on my 3rd workout and really feeling a difference. The book explains a lot.
  • I have officially hit the sore time. I was worried after the first workout because I wasn't sore, but now that I have completed 3 workouts, I am feeling all of my muscles. Congrats to all the cancer free ladies on here. It is great to hear there are people out there who have won the fight!
  • I did my second A workout last night. I have to admit after I did the first A workout I was worried I wouldn't be getting enough out of it, but after doing the B workout on Monday and the second A workout last night, I can say I am officially sore. The step ups just about killed me. I increased to 40 lbs (20 each hand) and…

  • @wbfd-those are some good starting stats. I also struggled with what weight I should be starting with. Tonight is my second time doing A so I know some of my stats will increase whereas some will stay the same.

  • Ooops, forgot it was 75lbs. The 5 lb extra weight would not lock so that is where that came from.

  • I struggled with the 70lbs lat pull down. I am not completely happy with my form, so I think when I do it again on Friday I will keep the same weight and work on my form. The barbells at my gym also jump by 5 lbs so I will be in the same boat as you.

  • @chuckles-I have a desk job so I know what you mean about sitting all day! I used to do Zumba, Zumba toning, Piloxing, Pilates, Zumba Sentao at least 5-6 days a week. On Thursdays, I used to do what they called the Trifecta, which was Walk fit, Pilates, then Zumba toning. Its crazy how easy it was to get addicted to these…
  • Beeps, I am so glad to see you commenting on the cardio reports. I started lifting last week and gave up all my favorite cardio. It is so hard on my non lifting days to not do anything. I had read one of your comments previously about how you lost fat after you stopped cardio so I am trying to go by that. I just read 2…
  • The 30lbs in the shoulder stats is 2 15lbs, not 30 lbs each hand. I guess I should have clarified that. I hate shoulder exercises because that is my weakest link but I know I have to make them stronger. I also feel nothing with the Swiss ball crunch, maybe I should do more also.

  • Thank you for these articles, they really explain a lot to me. I started lifting last week and I have stayed away from cardio (which has been very hard). This explains why I need to keep my current schedule.
  • I was finally able to get my second workout in last night (stage 1B). The stats are as follows deadlift: 55/15, 65/15 overhead dumbell press: 20/15, 30/15 lat pull down (forget the right words) 75/15 75/15 lunges 30/15 30/15 swiss ball crunch bw/8 5/8

  • You look amazing. Congrats on all of your achievements!
  • Since you aren't sure of all the ingredients, just do a quick add for calories. I would round it to 300 calories just to be safe.
  • Gotta ask, what is a TRX class? It sounds like a great workout whatever it is. I am starting the plank challenge with a group on people on Sunday. Planning on either a brunch or lunch for Mothers Day.
  • What great NSV's. I don't know if I could do 3 laps of the butterfly, that is just so exhausting. Congrats!
  • What amazing progress so far. Congrats and keep up the great work!
  • Hello everyonel. I just started on Wednesday and can't wait to do workout B tonight. I have read all the boards and am excited to see changes to my body the next few months.
  • ^^^^totally agree with the above!
  • What a great NSV, congrats!
  • ^^^sounds delish!
  • I am 5'3" but my legs are longer than my torso. I guess using the 6 risers plus step would be fine then.

  • I started lifting last night at my local gym and I have to say, the guys in the free weight area were so helpful and nice. They were able to help me find the weights/machines I needed and even got me set up on the squat rack. It can be intimidating going to the free weight area the first time but believe me, you will be…
  • I have read that weight training will help to increase your endurance with running.
  • My step ups the first time was 5 risers plus the step. The second round I used 6 risers plus the step. I am thinking it needs to be higher?

  • I started stage one tonight. I had my book and chart with me. I had a little problem with finding the machines/weights I needed but the guys there were so nice. I asked questions and they were more than willing to help me. So my stats for first day was squats 45lbs/15 65lbs/15 pushups 15 15 seated row 55 lbs/15 70 lbs/15…

  • What a great NSV, congrats!
  • Not doing the intense cardio is going to be hard for me too. I am also excited to hear about everyones successes so far.
  • If you have any questions, I have found the group NRL4W group is a great source. They have answered any questions I have had. I am starting tomorrow.
