That's entirely dependent on height and weight. I know for a fact that 1000 calories is way too low for a 5'8'', 237lb, man.

This. So much this.

Not all. I eat peanut butter a couple of times a week for lunch. I also cook with oil and use butter and mayo from time to time. Not a daily occurrence though. Even when I do use those things I don't use very much....except butter...i might as well be paula deen.

Yeah these are good. I buy them too sometimes.
-
That does not sound like enough to be healthy....
-
That's actually the other thing that worries me...I haven't really started working out yet but when I do I'll end up with an even bigger deficit than I usually have now...
-
That's a good way to look at it. Thank you!

The thing is...most of the time I feel like my meals are already too big. I generally eat a good sized dinner but its also usually healthy (less than 400 calories) and lunch is just leftovers so its the same. I don't eat breakfast. I guess I could start.

I understand all too well my friend. On my last family vacation I got kicked off of a rollercoaster at Knottsberry Farm that my son wanted to go on because they couldn't lower the safety bar. My wife went with him instead and he got off the ride saying "my dad couldn't go because he's too fat!" Horrible. Feel free to add…

I've always been a proponent of the "cheat day" and I lost a lot of weight previously while doing it...however I have noticed that after a cheat day it's much harder to get back on track. Honestly I think I'm starting to agree with the "eat whatever and just fit it in your goals" group. You won't feel (as) deprived and…

Yeah the whole foods by me has it as well. Frozen but still sashimi grade nonetheless. After I posted yesterday I looked up sushi making classes in my area. There are TONS. I found one that is a sushi and sake class and you get to eat all the rolls you make and try 3 different sake's. I think I might sign up.
-
Has anyone here gotten good at making sushi? I'd like to take a class but curious about others experiences. It seems like it should be so easy but I know sushi chefs spend years learning technique so I'm guessing it's not nearly as easy as it seems.
-
Sushi is by far one of my favorite foods. I guess it's not a big deal for me though as I prefer Nigiri (raw fish on top of rice) or Sashimi (just raw fish). Rolls are rare for me to order.

I'm shocked that so many people in this thread understood the original post.

1200/day is low for most people but without knowing your height/weight/etc. I'd say its possible that's an ok goal. What is not an ok goal however is 600-800 net calories. You will do damage to yourself most likely.

This almost exactly. It's something I struggle with everyday. Grazing I would say is different (unless its uncontrollable and in abnormally large quantities). I definitely think they can coincide with each other though. A lot of times a little snack here or there for me turns into a binge and I can end up eating 2k/3k/4k…

Fairly certain if you're 5'3'' and eating 1000-1200 cals per day and burning 400 per day which are not eating back you are bordering malnutrition.

The data does indicate that...it does NOT however indicate that it is the single most important factor in weight loss.

I don't know if you're in the US but I'm pretty positive they are legally required to have nutritional information available to you if you ask. Edit: I believe this applies to any restaurant with more than 5 locations

Pizza isn't all that terrible for you (strictly speaking from a calorie standpoint). A couple of slices of pizza are usually equal to just about any other dinner (for me at least).
-
How do you get that conclusion? If anything it's a vague observation.
-
For me it's mainly been cutting out the appetizers and then sharing dessert with my wife instead of us having our own. It can be a challenge as we don't always want the same things but the last time we disagreed we just didn't order dessert and it actually worked out ok.

I was always under the impression that the whole "gluten is evil" thing is garbage unless you have celiacs disease...i'm no expert so maybe I'm wrong.
-
I mainly just use the "3oz is roughly the size of a deck of cards" thing. Again like I said I'm sure it's not super accurate but at least I can make a somewhat educated guess.
-
Point taken. Though despite the amount of weight i have to lose when I do estimate I usually log more than I think I've eaten to take that into account. For instance if I eat what I think to be around 6oz of chicken I'll log 8oz, etc. That way I give myself some margin for error anyway.
-
I don't weigh my food at all and I have no issues with losing...Yes i'm sure that weighing would be more accurate but just because someone doesn't weight their food doesn't mean they are automatically overeating.
-
I agree about the sleep patterns (unless you have a major sleep issue) but the steps seem like good information. I use the MFP app on my phone which tells me my step count which is generally less than 4000. I'm sure it's nowhere near accurate as I don't always have my phone in my pocket while I'm walking but it at least…

Sleeping on a full stomach is fine. My son does little league and on Monday's we don't really have time to cook so we usually just grab subway. I'm not a huge subway fan but it's not terrible and it's at least moderately healthy.

Pretty sure brookstone guys work on commission. Don't believe everything they tell you. lol
