  • I used SP for a year or two (a year or two ago). Started using MFP late last year. I like MFP much better, but I think it depends on the type of atmosphere that motivates you better. SP has so many things going on, they are trying to keep you interested and informed. The whole points system and trophies gets annoying…

  • ^^^This.
  • It's worth the money. It really is. Get a Vitamix or a Blendtec (just as powerful). Those two are the only ones that can really do the job right. Ninja, Nutribullet, etc... don't even come close (look for comparison videos on youtube and you'll see they don't match up). Keep your eye on Craigslist or Ebay, you may be able…
  • 1) The number from fitbit website is it's estimate of your TDEE (should be similar to what MFP calculated, but not necessarily same as they use slightly different estimation formulas). They won't match, but don't sweat it. I just let the Fitbit do it's thing in the background and pay attention to numbers on MFP. 2) That…
  • Some of what you said was a tad confusing. So 1st thing you need to do is make sure the fitbit is synced with MFP. Go to the APPS tab, then in the apps gallery, select fitbit tracker. There should be a button to sync with or something like that. It may redirect you to the fitbit website to log in to complete the sync.…
  • Cycling is a bit more of an endurance sport, but it's great for the heart. Get an HRM and monitor as shirleygirl91 suggested. When you go for a bike, do NOT go to a big box store, go to a real bike shop. They'll help you with all kinds of advice. They will let you test ride bikes. See what kind of bike you want to ride,…
  • It's not bad. It's not very sweet by itself, so you need to put it in with something that's already sweetened or you need to sweeten it to bring out the peanut butter taste. I use it by throwing a frozen banana, a few cups of unsweetened almond milk (blue diamond), some PB2 and some stevia (liquid extract from Trader Joes)…
  • Technically you have even more deficit. BMR is what you would burn if you literally sat still and didn't move all day. Your TDEE (Total Day Energy Expenditure) is your more realistic calorie burn for the day. When you registered the website asked you about your activity level (sedentary, lightly active, etc...). Based on…
  • Great story! I agree 150% that no breeds are "vicious" or "dangerous" by nature. Dogs are like people....raise them right and they'll be great; raise them wrong and they'll be nothing but trouble. My wife and I volunteer at a local shelter and hear stories like this all the time. I see those "vicious" pit bulls that want…
  • Constructive criticism only: I took a quick look into your food diary. It looks like you are still eating a lot of processed and/or restaurant foods. Even if you are within your calorie limit, those are likely hurting you. Try to cut out more processed foods (like bread), and the restaurant food can be killer and hard to…
  • Nice. Congratulations!!!! That's a big goal that I'm hoping to attain myself soon.
  • Refusal to remove an artificial dye that has been shown to have adverse affects (on children). They've been forced to remove it in versions sold in Europe, but refuse to do so in the U.S. versions because the law isn't forcing them. http://www.buycott.com/campaign/311/boycott-kraft-foods-inc Kraft is also one of the big…
  • Yes. Log ALL food (and drinks). It may be much better for you, but you don't know your true calorie intake if you don't log it.
  • Just sayin'.
  • I've always really liked the pineapple Blueberry Ginger, which gives it a slight zing. (liquid base) Blueberry green tea (relatively cheap at Trader Joes) [ you can also use your own fruit type tea] You can add some kale or spinach and you'll get nutrition benefit and will not even taste it. Other good additives that will…
  • I'm not reading through all the posts to know how well this has been answered already, but I'll chime in with my own personal experience. I used to always think exercise was king. I realize now that I thought that because it was the easier thing for me. I got a FitBit last year to help me track calories out. Logging here…
  • It would count that just fine. It doesn't look at overall height, it looks at gains. If you go up and down then it would count the ups each time (it doesn't count downs, I believe). If the vertical gain was 5' for that 1/2 flight of stairs, then it would give you a flight every 2X you went UP it.
  • Fitbit One - LOVE it!!!! It helped me to really learn where my calorie problem was. It was in the calories in, NOT the calories out because it seems I'm a calorie burning machine!!! I love using it to track my cals in vs. cals out.
  • There is now an app (at least for iPhone and Android) called "Buycott". I tried it yesterday and it works great. You can sign up for "campaigns" (such as NO GMO) and use the app to scan a barcode and see who the parent company is and if they conflict with campaigns you care about. It's a teeny bit buggy, but a great tool.
  • http://www.getgrok.com/2013/01/a-comparative-review-28-days-with-the-fitbit-one-jawbone-up-nike-fuelband-and-bodymedia-link/ This article comparing various fitness trackers favors the Fitbit. However, it was not based on the Flex (wristband model) which is relatively new and has more mixed reviews. For what it's worth, I…
  • There's a tube steak joke in here somewhere.
  • Love the Fitbit! Been using it for about 6 months or so. I definitely would NOT wear it in the shower. Where did you hear that? Unless that's a new feature with the Flex and that's the one you got..... I have a Fitbit One and it should NOT be worn in shower. Then again...with model except the new Flex, how "could" you wear…

  • Carbs - it's all about carbs. Exercise and weight loss help loads....work hard on both. If it gives you any hope, I am Type II and went for a long time with A1C numbers in the 10 range. Doctor was running out of options. I was 2 types of insulin (novolog - short term before each meal and lantus - long term at night) as…
