  • Yes, yoga will improve your balance! If you consistently practice and incorporate a variety of balance poses you will get better. When I began practicing yoga I couldn't stand in tree pose for more than 3 breaths. A couple years later and I'm doing balance poses that I never thought possible. Good luck!
  • When I eat a really early supper I'm often really hungry by bed time. Sometimes I will grab a handful of blueberries or grapes and a full glass of water. If I wake up hungry I drink more water. It seems to help.
  • I began running about four years ago and always had a lot of hip/back pain after I ran. I also struggled with endurance beyond 3 miles. I started doing yoga a year and a half ago and it has totally changed my body. I am leaner, more flexible, and I can run longer distances (5 miles +). I also have completely alleviated all…
  • I highly suggest taking a class (that's how I learned), but if classes are not available in your area, I would suggest Shiva Rea's Vinyasa Flow dvd or any of Bryan Kest's videos. I also follow Tara Stiles on youtube. Personally, I prefer practicing 3 times a week (45-60 minute sessions), and doing cardio the other days.
  • I own a few of the Bryan Kest Power Yoga DVDs and have fallen in love with his style. I also enjoy Shiva Rea's Vinyasa Flow. You can find both of these dvds on amazon. If you are looking for something free online, Gaiam Yoga has videos on hulu that are sometimes fun. Tara Stiles also has a few videos on youtube that I…
  • I think its important to note that cutting out an entire food group is not always necessarily beneficial. Everything needs to be in moderation. Instead of cutting out dairy, why not switching to soy/coconut milk, and other types of cheese that are lower in fat and calories. I would also suggest limiting yourself to dairy…
  • I typically run 4-5 miles early in the a.m., so I don't eat anything before I go. If I know I'm going to run the next morning I try to eat a carb of some sort about an hour before bed. I have found that it gives me a little more energy for the morning, but its not too much to make me nauseated.
  • Greek yogurt, celery and hummus, milk rice (1/2 cup with coconut milk), 100 calorie popcorn
  • Yoga is a great exercise that is easy on all the joints! It may not be as high calorie burning as running, but you will definitely get a sweat going and build some strength as well. Not to mention, you will stretch out all those bad spots!
  • Make sure you eat something high in fiber to flush your system out. You could also chug some detox drinks to help.
