  • I've been doing weekly instead of daily calories for about 4 months now. It is rather freeing. There is a feature on the iphone app that lets you see your weekly calorie allotment. The default setting is a revolving 7 days, but I have it set to renew on Mondays. So, by the weekend, I see how many calories I have for the…
  • It is my understanding that you should not try to lose weight while pregnant. It isn't good for your baby. If you must count calories, spark people has a site designed for pregnant/nursing women. There is a lot of good information there. Congrats on your upcoming baby!
  • I do something very similar. This guy - http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/ - has an online tool where you can enter your daily weights, and it gives you a moving average to tell you what your "true" weight is. I find it very helpful to keep me from stressing over a few pounds upwards here or there (especially during my…
  • Egads, woman, eat more than a single apple for breakfast! This has got to be logging error. I am 100 lbs lighter, 15 years older, and I lose on 1750 cal per day.
  • What is your calorie goal? Are (accurately) tracking your intake? Do you eat your running/exercise calories back?
  • I've said it in a different thread, and I'll say it again here: It doesn't matter whether you count calories or not; your BODY is certainly keeping up with what you eat and puts on or loses weight accordingly. So I figure I might as well count calories, to make sure I get the results I want.
  • Feel free to message me. I have three kids (4, 3, and 19 mos) and am down 50 pounds so far, with about 30-35 more to go. I'll be ready in about 6 more months (hopefully).
  • Mine correlated w/ skin fold measurements (done by a professional, not by me) and I'm always consistent w/ the time of day I measure it - first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking anything. Later in the day, it would give me all kinds of crazy readings.
  • You mean I don't have to give up my Diet Dr. Pepper?!? Best. day. ever.
  • If you aren't worried about the scale (and I agree with you that you shouldn't be, at this point in the proceedings), what, specifically, are your goals?
  • I'm at 188-190, and I lose weight on 1700-2200 per day, depending on the exercise. I'm not saying the 100 cal per 10lbs of body weight is what you should go by, but I am saying that it is possible to lose weight eating 1880 calories per day.
  • I'd also consider you adjust your rate of loss to 1lb/week. Not because I think you are in "starvation mode" or anything silly like that, but because if you are restricting that much, this close to your goal weight, you might be getting hungry and blowing your entire deficit with just a few days or meals.
  • Think of it like a budget, where: Calories = how much money you have to spend Eating = spends money Exercising = earns money When you exercise, you get more calories to "spend".
  • I wish I could reach back in time and tell my 5'6", 160 pound, 21 year old self to be happy with the way she looked. Ahem. Anyway, I second what the above posters said about tracking your intake. It's easier than you think to eat more than you should if you want to be in a calorie deficit.
  • It's my last vice. I just can't give it up. It has not hindered my personal weight loss, as you can see by the ticker :) I don't drink coffee, so it's my only source of caffeine.
  • A lot of people here don't like them. I have one, and I only check my BF% every 1-2 weeks on it. I always weigh in the same conditions every time - that is, first thing in the morning, before I have had anything to eat or drink. I figure even if it's off, I can at least track the trend. I plan on having a dexa scan when I…
  • Peek. Gawd, my spelling.

  • I work full time and have 3 young children. I get up at 5:30 on work days to get a 30 min work out done (usually weights, sometimes quick cardio), and then I walk 4-6 miles on my off days. Exercising in the evenings is just not an option for me, nor is during lunch, but others will do that instead.

  • It sounds to me that the problem you have with it is the uncertainty of whether your boyfriend will bring beer home on a particular evening. I have a similar issue on the nights my husband cooks dinner (usually at least 3-4 per week) and I don't know what he is going to make. I tend to hoard my calories throughout the day,…

  • Only virgin olive oil?!? Crap.
  • I will start getting additional calories to eat starting at 4K-5K steps.
  • Track every day. Even if it's a "cheat" day (God, I hate that phrase). Even if you go over. Even if you didn't exercise.
  • Yep. It doesn't matter what exercise you do (or whether you exercise at all really) if you aren't in a deficit. If you would like tips on your diet, let us take a peak @ your food diary.

  • I just want to second this advice. When I started this seriously in October (had signed up the Dec prior, but didn't really give it a go until Oct 2013), I was only half-assing it - logged during the week only, didn't weigh my food, etc. I lost some, but stalled out over Nov/Dec (when I didn't track at all hardly, just…

  • Weight loss is about calorie deficit. Are you at a deficit?
  • I think his insisting you go to a Mexican restaurant (seriously?) that doesn't have their calories listed is well balanced with you bringing your food scale there to weigh your food. I think your choices are: 1) Go to a different restaurant (Mexican or otherwise) that lists calorie counts. 2) Get it to go and weigh the…
  • Someone posted about Hacker's Diet on one of these threads and I checked it out. I don't agree with all that he says about actually losing weight, but what I did take away from it was his online tool for averaging out your daily weights to get your "true" weight. It makes you feel a lot better about all those ups and…
  • I breast fed all three of mine, and I could not eat below 2000 without turning into a ravening beast. My advice would be to wait until your baby is AT LEAST 3-4 months old before thinking about losing weight. If you really want to keep it under control, set your weight loss to 1/2lb per week (or even maintenance), log your…
