I use my trend weight (geometrically weighted moving average). I don't worry about the actual measurements. I weight morning and evening. I really only use the morning weight. The evening is mostly just for curiosity.

I like to use "highest seen" Based on that, you could use 187. One thing that you will find as you get in better condition is that it will be harder to get your heart rate up to Max. That is one reason folks run intervals. This gets the system primed, and, by the end of the series, you are hitting the Max during the fast…

For the OP, you can use the 220-age (+6 if female) formula. It isn't the best, but it does have the virtue of simplicity. Just be ready to adjust this up or down based on your experience. The setting will have some impact on the calories reported as it will impact the ability of the FT4 to determine how hard you are…

All the various formulas out there attempt to predict an individuals maximum heart rate (HRmax) based on the population in general. The problem is that the best of them have a standard deviation on the order of 24 beats per minute (bpm). This means that, while most members of the population the formula works for will have…

Welcome from this retired USAF MSgt. It does get better. When I pay attention to my exercise and diet, things just go better. When I forget, I get fluffy.

1. Use the smallest plate they have. 2. Have a nice salad, but go easy on the dressing. 3. Try to eat slowly. 4. Don't sweat it. It's only one meal on one day.

Works for me. Day 1 is complete.

February... ...2001 Yeah, I need to find a newer one. Biggest difference is that the beard has white in it now.

I'm 48 and married, but I'd consider anyone I found interesting regardless of age if I weren't.

I was a Saints fan before they had a winning season! Geaux Saints!

They are one of my guilty pleasuers. I use them as pure sugar. I prefer the Brown Sugar Cinnamon flavor. The key is that I don't eat them that often and usually just before I'm going to be burning a lot of calories like on my long runs. I try to eat something nutriant-rich after the run.

I've run many half and full marathons and have run different training plans for each. Two long runs in three days is a lot unless you have the mileage to support it. I'd recommend not running another 10. However (because I know runners), if you do run, run it very easy and be on the lookout for indications of stress as…

Another comment on heart rate: When you are just starting, you will run your HR up to near MaxHR fairly easily. As you get used to running, and more fit, it gets harder to push your system hard enough to get to MaxHR. MaxHR will not move significantly (if at all) due to training, but the effort required for a given HR will…

Just a couple items to throw into the pot: 1. My MaxHR is 205 and I am 47 years old. This is based on my kick into the finish of a 5K and is consistent with perceived effort for the other paces I run. 2. I base my effort on my breathing. For normal Long Slow runs, I aim to breathe in for 4 steps and then out for 4 steps.…

Let me add for those that might need it. BMR can be quite high depending on your gender and current weight. For example, mine is over 1600. One consequence of this is that I have to accept a much slower rate of weight loss. If I want to loose faster, I have to do it with inceased exercise while still eating more than my…

For me, the reboot (which I think of as Star Trek 90210) didn't work. My suspenders of disbelief snapped. I feel I would have had issues even if I knew nothing of the history of the show. That said, it was a fun ride. I just had to turn my brain off and enjoy the flash. I don't have much faith in Star Wars getting a better…

I run mostly on a treadmill and run almost exclusively for time. I'm slow as well. My experience is that I find running outside easier than running on my treadmill. Some other treadmills I've run on have been harder than running, but I haven't run one of them in a long time. I'd freely swap between running on the treadmill…

Can't wait to see the graduation notice!

I've taken lotsa time off on occasion. Once I get back into a regular routine, I find that I get back to where I was fairly quickly.

Just finished Book 1. It's going to be hard to not blow my book budget all at once.

That is so true. We had a sequence when I was in desktop support: 1. Reboot 2. Reinstall 3. Restage If that didn't fix the system, there was a hardware failure.

In the palance of the Geek Code, I'm a Geek of All Trades. Übergeek plus many others. Actually do both Star Wars and Star Trek...and Doctor Who!

My treadmill is set for 1.5%. I find it easier to run outside than on the treadmill. That said, the path may be harder than the treadmill and can impose its own effort. It will be different. Enjoy.

While many have lost weight while completing this plan, that is not the direct intent. The goal is to get off the couch and get moving. There are significant health benefits from just moving on a regular basis. As others have said, diet and exercise together can help lose weight.

I've done everything from system to database administration, application to network programming, server and network monitoring, and computer security. I have no certifications. I've usually been too busy doing the job to get paper that clains I can do the job. When I was interviewing new consultants before the millenium, I…

My wife and I weigh in twice a day (morning and evening). This includes a body fat number from the scale as well. We record all of this on a sheet in the bathroom. I log the morning weight and % body fat online.

When it gets cold, I usually run on my treadmill. I have a high tolerance for boredom, I guess. I also listen to books or watch a video, so that helps. There is a race series in Michigan that I did in 2009/2010. First Saturday of each month Dec-Mar. February was 10F with blizzard conditions. There are series points…
