1) Seems the easiest explanation, but would be strange to be doing it almost consistently, rather than sometimes over estimating and sometimes underestimating. I weigh at home, but I guess when I have to. 2) taking place over years, so not this. 3) I use a Fitbit, but it doesn't know what I'm carrying (sometimes a toddler)…

Thank you for all the well-thought-out answers. I don't back this diet in any way (though it sounds pretty yummy!), but I have to say it's thoroughly naive to think that if something worked well we'd all know about it. What happened with fat? It was unnecessarily condemned while research showing potential problems with…

I put this in the Nutritional Debate category for a reason: i'm not asking for advice. Therefore, please don't try giving me advice! I lose weight faster than I 'should' according to any calculator, so I am always fascinated by any research that might suggest a reason why (the obvious answer is that I log too many…

I got my 8 year old into Calvin and Hobbes. If I hear hysterical laughter I know what he's doing!

I should not have chosen mfp's set up so blindly. I chose 2lb a week, even though I had little to lose, because in the UK I'd always read that you should aim to lose 1-2lb a week (with never more detail than that). I logged almost every time I moved (washing up, even!) and I still lost faster than 2lb a week, and rather…

I think my body is pretty accurate at calorie counting and calls me out on any deficit by sending hunger signals. I can feel stuffed with low calorie density foods, but still hungry because my body can tell it does not have easy access to the calories needed to keep it going. Unfortunately, for survival's sake, our bodies…

While I 100% agree that it is lower calories rather than the right foods that makes you lose weight, there are areas of scientific research that do argue towards certain calories being better for losing weight than others. Firstly, satiety. Fat, protein and fibre increase satiety. The fuller you feel, the more likely you…

In the past I've found Fitbit maintenance calories is actually a diet for me, so I'm trying that out again now. This will be my first time trying to lose much using my fitbit.

Hi! Not been 40 long but wonder if I'll like this group

After stopping breastfeeding I gained 9kg in 3 months... I'm sure most of it was psychological, but some of it was being used to being able to eat a lot more. Most estimates of the extra calories needed for breastfeeding include a certain level of weight loss. Annoyingly I can't find the research from a quick google. It…

That's the bit everyone tells me is bad, but at least I'll know what's happening and why. Compared to diarrhoea or throwing up, when it has no positive element, it sounds ok. When I had a silent miscarriage my body had one last go at flooding my system with hormones and I threw up absolutely everything inside me. I'm…

Surely laxatives are a first world problem...

I'm curious as to how you get that much fibre too!

Thank you!

That's just my 7 year old pretending to be hungry!

Can I suggest you make friends with people who are not drastically undereating? I love MFP but I know it can be a very triggering environment for some people. At least two of my friends joined and then developed EDs. Give yourself time to lose in a way that is mentally and physically healthy.

Is there no market for more ethical eggs? Why would a change in the rules for caged hens reduce the availability of other eggs? Or do they not have adequate certification? Personally I believe the market is the best way to bring about ethical changes. If people stopped buying caged eggs producers would have no choice.
-
In the UK we have caged, barn, free range and organic free range, priced in that order, and they're all the same colour.

You're 206lb because of your boyfriend? Sorry, trying to understand.

Amazing job! I love how happy you've become along the way. Congratulations for taking on such a challenge and achieving your goal. Wishing you all the best in maintenance.

I'm BFing my 15 month old on demand and some days I'm convinced he drinks more than a newborn and some days hardly anything (he loves food and water). I only have around 20lb to lose but I'm in no hurry. Hopefully I'll get there by the time he's 3. I'm eating round about what my fitbit says is maintenance, but from past…

And I'm 39.

I've been on mfp for about 4 years and was maintaining for about 2 years before I got pregnant. I'm 5'5", around 143lb and aiming for 125lb. I'm choosing to lose super slowly and average well over 2000kcal a day. I know I have higher maintenance kcals than the norm for my weight and I'm also breastfeeding, so I can lose…

Is there a link to it? Or is it just on paper?
-
I was also wondering this. I have seen this again and again on mfp. I haven't seen any research backing it up, unfortunately. Is upping your activity an option?

But then you say that eating a little bit more (putting you at the high end of the window) is a slippery slope. We seem to agree on the window but you seem to be saying to aim for the bottom of it, or do you not mean that?
-
I'm confused. Isn't it fairly common to be overweight on a low income in the US? Isn't fast food pretty cheap? Or do you have a long list of foods you consider 'unhealthy' that you don't want to eat? Is your real question how to continue to eat foods you consider 'healthy' whilst gaining weight?
-
I agree with the window but have the opposite experience. If I keep my calories towards the high end of my loss window I remain my normal, bouncy self. If my calories go too low, the subconscious bouncing stops and I may need the occasional nap. To lose weight at the lower end of that window I have to make a conscious…

For most people, carrying more weight makes it harder to be fit. There is more body to move so your body has to work harder. If you think you could choose to run and do push-ups oh-so-easily, give it a go. If it's harder going than you expected, lose a little weight and see if it gets easier. I know that my best weight is…
