  • What formula are you using in your calculator? How was that derived?
  • You can put your unit of measurement as the serving size. Most people weigh the final product (less cooking dish) and use the number of grams as the number of servings. Then when you weigh your portion, that weight is the number of servings you enter in the diary.
  • First they friend you and you accept the friend request. Then they try to get you to communicate via some private messaging system—typically one with extra privacy features like WhatsApp or Snapchat that make their number harder to trace and messages harder to retrieve. Then there's the sob story. Then they want your…
  • I like plain water, but do like to jazz it up a bit sometimes. I like to put a pitcher of water in the fridge with cucumber and lemon slices (or a splash of lemon juice if that’s what you have on hand). Another thing I do is get a variety pack of various fruit teas and just put a tea bag in the bottom of my water bottle.…

  • I don’t click links, but I would need to see some SERIOUS peer review on those claims. The descriptions provided don’t make biological sense according to my memory of years of A&P in college. I’m sure they are great for selling by books, supplements, and exclusive memberships to their YouTube subscribers, though.
  • It sounds like the romance scammers are about the only people using the “friend” function these days.
  • I have what I call “scoop dinners”. I keep frozen precooked protein—chicken, beef, meatballs, shrimp on hand, along with bags of frozen vegetables. When it’s dinner time, I open a packages of precooked rice or pasta, add the desired “scoops” of protein and veg and top with some sort of sauce or seasoning. Microwave for a…
  • Tracking is a chore, and I treat it like I a chore. It's just something I do whether I "feel" like it or not and find that it's takes longer to put off tracking than it does to just do it. Kind of like unloading the dishwasher. I would put off unloading because it took SO LONG. But I timed it once and a full dishwasher…
  • If you're not 18, this site is not for you. If you're not an adult, a trusted coach or your pediatrician should be a better resource for weight loss for growing bodies.
  • I had a hysterectomy last fall. It will be a while until you see any change in the size of your stomach. At only 2 weeks, there's a bunch of inflammation, water retention, and probably a little CO2 from the surgery lingering around too. You're probably still tender around your belly, right? It was at least 3 and probably…
  • Haha—I remember my first oven fire! It was one of those giant chocolate chip cookies in a pizza pan that was a mall favorite back in the 80s-90s. Exploded out of the pizza pan and dripped burning sugar all over the oven. We nearly froze to death sleeping with the windows open to get the smell out. Good times…..
  • If you are at maintenance, you by that very definition are not losing. You can't do both. Did I miss something?
  • You need to verify your entries with an outside source, at minimum the first time you use it. If it’s something you eat very regularly, the entry should stay in your Recent Foods. The USDA database is good for whole food items like your onion. Package info or product websites work for packaged and purchased food.
  • Diet, diet, diet, and then diet some more. It takes a pretty deep cut to keep abs visible 24/7. Most bodybuilders don’t stay in that shape outside of competition.
  • I haven't seen it on labels in the US. They show caffeine as an ingredient, but you have to go a-Googling for the number of mg/serving.
  • I love the Balance 365 podcasts, very supportive and practical for weight loss and overall lifestyle change.
  • When I do dry month challenges, I buy canned mocktails. I found that I need more of a “marker” for the end of the day as opposed needing a buzz to drink away the day I had. So I stock up on mocktails and have one of those in the evening. Well-chilled and served either in the appropriate cocktail glass or a wine glass. It’s…
  • Dehydrated veg works well too. I inherited a bunch of freeze dried stuff my dad had stored and have been throwing handfuls of dried spinach, bell peppers, onions, and usually some green chile into just about any soup or sauce I heat up. Good way to bulk things up without hours of food prep. Takes up a lot less space too.
  • If you're pulling pre-cooked meat out of the freezer, you might try hamburger. I buy the lowest fat hamburger when it's on sale, usually about 3 pounds worth, cook up the whole batch and freeze it in 1-2 serving bags. When it's dinner time, I run the bag under some warm water and let it sit a bit and then have ground beef…
  • This may be more a result of ADHD than a true diet hack, but I keep my treats out where I can see them. I have 1-2 small pieces of chocolate every evening and I keep them in a big bowl on my dining table and am rarely tempted by them other than when I have them after dinner. In fact, if I find myself wanting to grab a…
  • I fell for the magic blue lipstick ads. That stuff is amazing! I am obsessed and it is now on my “see a sale and definitely stock up” list!
  • It depends on the workout for me. I’m always starving after I lift, but cardio seems to actually blunt my appetite, if anything. But after lifting, I want FOOD, not some sweet milky frothy something or other. If there were a shop selling protein rich actual food—not shakes and bars, but non-sweet food you can chew and feel…
  • I’d be interested to hear what kind of friend requests you get, as a man. From all accounts, since the newsfeed was discontinued, the “friend” function has mostly devolved into romance scammers. That’s what we hear from women, anyway. I’m curious what kind of invites men get.

  • To me the gym is a necessary evil, not a place I’m interested in hanging out for drinks and snacks. They also get plenty of my money through my membership fees, why would I give them any more money on something I can just as easily keep in my fridge for exactly the same satisfaction level?
  • MFP is a crowd sourced data base, which means that anybody can enter anything they want. Some people don’t type accurately, only enter the information they care about, get data entry fields mixed up, or I swear are just flat delusional with what they enter. Absolutely any and every entry you use should be verified by…
  • Definitely check every entry that you make against either the label or a reliable database like USDA Food Data Central. MFP is a crowdsourced database and there are a lot of entries that are unreliable at best and utterly hilarious at worst. Also, I have a Fairlife shake in front of me, pretty comparable to Premier Protein…
  • MFP is just another form of social media and we all need to remember to keep our guard up in any virtual interactions. If you wouldn't accept a stranger's friend request on Facebook or Instagram, you probably shouldn't accept them here. Like the other poster said, without the newsfeed there is about zero benefit to…
  • I don’t think anyone can make that choice for you. The best bet is to educate yourself about the risks and benefits. I personally don’t find the risks acceptable, given my personal health history. On the other hand, I know people that have used it successfully with no problems.

  • Yeah, MFP is really going hard on shifting people to the apps. Not a lot of the newer features get added to the website.
  • You can track net carbs with a paid premium membership.
