While certainly not exhaustive, of the three or four calorie counting sites I've checked out, only MFP charges for the barcode scanner.

Alternative activity is a good solution (I paint my nails, personally) but I'd do some thinking on what that "emptiness" is. Is it boredom? Maybe. Or maybe it's comforting after a stressful situation/day and some self-care would meet that need. Do you get enough sleep? If we're overtired, our bodies look for fast sources…

I think the particular kind of gym you go to makes a difference, as well as the time. I work out at a university gym that's closely partnered with a hospital. Anyone can join, but not a lot of people outside the medical campus know it's there. It's a great workout facility, but also used by hospital and outpatient clinics…

You have to keep in mind that recomp is a months and years endeavor, not days and weeks. Under optimal, perfect circumstances, adding 2 pounds of muscle a month is about the max possible for men to gain. Half that for women. Since you seem to be eating at maintenance, fat loss won't really be significant. So yeah, if you…

Yes, there was a spam post earlier today

Yeah, soooooooo few people used that feed that we're still seeing multiple posts a day mentioning it, even two months out since the change. Clearly it was a decision rooted in customer service <eye roll>.

Do you have a citation for this? In a lifetime of dieting and even when I was a powerlifter, I've never heard anything like that.
-
The boards are vastly different than they used to be. I remember when I had to block MFP from my work browser because there were so many posts, I'd just end up down a rabbit hole. Now it's a nice 5 or 10 minute break between projects. It's a habit I really should break. More and more it seems like the same few people…

I feel that 100%! I've just gotten to a place where "good enough is good enough". I keep a lot of super quick basics on hand and just mix and match at mealtime. Frozen veg and pre-cooked meat, pre-cooked rice and pasta, canned beans, salad kits, various sauces and seasoning--that kind of thing. I buy a veggie tray and some…

Just be careful that you don't spend a ton of money to "save" it. If you have to buy appliances, storage stuff, special new pots and pans, or food in quantities you'll never use before it rots, then you aren't really saving money. I know for me, shiny new toys can be inspiring for a day or two but I always end up annoyed…

I add Bran Buds for crunch that doesn't get soggy. Because I am "Now I add roughage to my snacks" years old.

I've never in my life planned a keto menu, but I would think that the less lean meat that's usually cheaper would be ideal for keto macros. Like 80/20 hamburger is usually significantly cheaper than 93/7, drumsticks are cheaper than chicken breast, that kind of thing.

I'm actually getting a hysterectomy in September for the non-stop bleeding. I've been at the point where I literally wear Depends instead of a pad. My record so far is a 37 day period. That's from fibroids that have grown into the muscle of the uterus though. The fibroid symptoms got worse when I started peri and HRT…

Ditto on the symptoms being different for everyone. I had night sweats and absolute rage, but was much more bothered by heart palpitations and the body/foot pain. My biggest suggestions are learning about the less well-known symptoms and take action sooner rather than later if they pop up. I'm on HRT now and it eliminated…

I like to keep the KIND mini bars in my desk at the office. I'm bad at remembering to eat lunch, so if (when) I get loopy and shaky, they're a good snack to hold me over. For me they're great because I like them just fine, but not so much that they're tempting if I'm not actually hungry.

I generally like simple and cheap over expensive pee. Plus I turn and run whenever there's a "proprietary blend" and a string of buzzwords on the back of the bottle.

I'd focus on trying to find inspiration and accomplishment in the process rather than the results. To me, it's a gold star if I hit my fruit and veggie goal for the day, do my ab work, and get some stretching in. I believe that if the process is strong, the results will come. I find that especially useful when I'm taking a…

When I was in fifth grade, my mom went back to work outside the home so my sister and I had to take over most of the cooking and cleaning. We were the very epitome of the Gen X latch key generation, lol. Funny you mention sewing, that's another thing I know passably well but would rather not do. I learned the basics from…

I've had some success with a similar approach. I focus on my hunger signals and manage my appetite with a hunger scale. I work to keep my meals and snacks balanced so that I keep my protein up and makes sure I get fruits and veggies in the rotation as well. I've lost about 7 pounds doing this. It's a slow process, for…

If I were going to go 16 hours without food and found that difficult to do, I'd probably just try to sleep as much of that time as I could.

I'm guessing that the only way to have a newsfeed is to go to another site that has that feature. MFP doesn't seem to interested in the "pal" part anymore.
-
' It's easy. Do something a minimum of twice a day for 35 years or so and you get pretty good at it. Plus, I like "special" cooking. Dinner party? Game day? Holidays? Sign me up! I have resented "plain" cooking pretty much since I was informed my parents wouldn't be cooking any more on weekdays and that would be my…

Not cooking likely has absolutely nothing to do with a lack of knowledge. For me, I cooked 2-3 meals a day from the time I was in 5th grade and simply refuse to do it any more. I seriously doubt there’s anything I don’t have the objective skill to make. Not everyone finds cooking to be a pleasant chore. Personally, I’d…

Having been married to a competitive bodybuilder, I can tell you that unless I were myself a bodybuilder, they are the absolute dead last people I’d take nutrition advice from. It’s an extremely specialized and all-consuming sport and just doesn’t translate well to regular people.

I basically don’t cook. Pretty much the only things I use at all to “cook” are my air fryer and microwave other than the occasional pot of grits. It’s fast, doesn’t heat up the house, and doesn’t make too much of a mess. I probably wouldn’t eat anything besides soup and enchiladas if I didn’t have the air fryer.

The community forums are the only part of MFP that I use, so I'd say they're my favorite. Most of the boards have a very direct, honest information style which I appreciate.

If you're concerned about liver or kidney function and "toxins", I wouldn't mess around with fad diets like a cleanse, I'd see a doctor.

A woman after my own heart! I haven't done Tovala, but have tried most of the others at one point or another. I use real silverware, but if I'm honest, most food I just eat out of the container it comes in. The kitchen is a prison and I have freed myself from the shackles!

Orthotics helped me a lot. I also stretch my calves and heels most nights on a posture board to get a good deep stretch. I'm out of town for a week and I can already tell the difference. It also helps sometimes to lace my fingers through my toes and do foot circles, that's more when I've had a heavy walking day though.

The consensus seems to be that Lose It and/or My Net Diary are the spots most people looking for a newsfeed replacement have gone.
