I agree that choices are the crux of the matter. I would point out though, that if I'm eating mindfully and paying attention to my hunger cues, I likely wouldn't be able to finish the first sandwich before I was satisfied and ready to stop eating. The second sandwich option would be more likely to be finished, but it's…

If this has been a problem after just 3 posts, it may be more productive to vet your friend requests a little more carefully. It seems like that's usually where the problem is, not so much the boards themselves. I don't read the Chit Chat and Fun and Games boards to know the culture there, but it's not something I've ever…

I almost never feel noticeably hungry between breakfast and dinner. I take meds for ADHD that blunt my appetite. Plus I like to feel full after breakfast, so lunch isn’t appealing to me at all. I ended up needing to look for subtle signs of hunger in my body. I have a reminder set to check in with my hunger at 4:00 pm. The…

All completing does is send you the gimmicky "In 5 weeks you'd weigh....." and make a note on your newsfeed. It has absolutely no impact on your tracking. Complete it if you like, but there's literally no consequence if you don't.

Eating is pretty much the last thing I do before I sleep. I prefer a late dinner, but still need to get plenty of sleep, so the two activities are all but concurrent. No problems with that at all for me. When I track, I track everything. Why would it not count because it's dark outside?

My strategy depends on the situation. Is this a big treat or a celebration, or just dinner? If it's a celebration, I try to be conservative, but go more with what I want to have than what I should have. My rules for just a regular dinner out are a little more defined: I never order appetizers, if one is ordered for the…

If you decide to, I'd be interested in hearing about your experience. Having taken both phentermine and Dopamax (not a typo, btw) and dealt with their respective side effects, I can't imagine taking the two of them together.

The MFP database is mainly crowd-sourced, so you're pretty much at the mercy of whatever information the original creator had, or prioritized. For incorrect entries, you can edit some items and add the correct info, or as the poster above mentioned, you can create a new food. Also, since you mentioned salt--MFP tracks…

I used one briefly when I was powerlifting. It seemed effective the few times I used it. I’m just weird about electricity and would get more stressed dealing with electrodes and stuff than the benefit I received. Pity you aren’t closer, I just cleared out a drawer and the TENS is now in my donation bin!

My sister had to do the same week long prep a month or so ago. It seems to be the new protocol. She ate a lot of eggs, pasta, and cheese. Don’t forget no red food either!

When I used to cook, the microwave was useful sometimes but not used much. Now it's an absolute non-negotiable. My house is also pretty old - 1966, so I ended up buying a freestanding pantry sort of thing that I could put near a plug.

If I eat non-frozen produce, I just buy it pre-washed and cut. Takes even less time than frozen! Cucumbers are pretty much the only thing I peel and cut myself and that's just because I like to snack on cucumbers marinated in rice vinegar and chile flakes.

You're a person after my own heart! If it takes more than 10 minutes total or requires the use of something besides an air fryer or a microwave, it might as well not even exist! Frozen vegetables are one of the greatest inventions of all time, I'd probably starve without them.

You were hoping to lose more than a pound of fat a day? I’m not sure that’s even biologically possible. The body can only metabolize so much a day. I think you may need to do some research on realistic fat loss.
-
I try to only eat when hungry and stop when satisfied. I use the Hunger Scale, I eat at a 3 and stop at a 6 or 7. I've literally never heard of that "reducing metabolic rate" (whatever that means). It hasn't seemed to be a problem for me, I've lost 5 pounds so far since the beginning of the year.

Support and community are a great help. However, I doubt you’ll find it in a post from 2011. Maybe start a new thread and see who’s around these days?

"Do better" sounds like a very big thing to accomplish in a day. What does that mean to you? I like to focus on habits and not so much pure motivation. I don't know about you, but by mid-afternoon, I have virtually no motivation left. I pick small habits and never more than 1 or 2 at once. For me, I like to use a habit…

Not a swap, but when I was a kid we used to go get barbeque directly from old man Stubbs himself. He had a little BBQ shack in Lubbock where he developed the sauce. Just the fact that people would "cross the tracks" to get his barbeque was pretty impressive back in the day. They closed the restaurant when he was ready to…

I like oatmeal shakes. Oatmeal with add-ins of your choice mixed in a blender bottle with milk of choice (I use oat milk). Leave overnight and it's a fast and handy breakfast you can drink in the car. I use the Oats Overnight packets for variety, but it would be easy to do something similar from scratch.

There is a very good book about CBT and weight loss. It's called the Beck Diet Solution. I found it very helpful. There are also workbooks and things, but the book and a notebook were all I really needed. As far as meal prep goes, I just like to keep ingredients around. I have vegetables and meat in the freezer. I am sure…

Latest irony of peri—-I started HRT because I could t sleep. We’ve had to increase my progesterone, which is sedating. I overslept and missed a work meeting, which has NEVER happened in my career! So now I take my meds right after dinner so I can wake up on time. Makes it easy to avoid nighttime snacking, I suppose! I…

Fundamentally, I think you need to figure out why you eat at night. The suggestions vary depending on the reason. Are you eating because you're bored? Because you always eat at that time? Because you're doing something that you eat while you do (think movie snacks)? Are you physically hungry? Are you looking for some kind…

My answer is probably not popular and certainly isn't the experience some people have, but when I decided to start tracking calories to lose weight (and for other reasons too), I just quit most elaborate cooking. I make bowls with vegetables and meat and can just track single ingredients that way. I eat a lot of salad…

In my experience, the symptoms of perimenopause have had the greatest effect on my weight. I think it's not so much hormonal, but all the little things add up. I had night sweats 2 or 3 times a night, so my sleep was crap. Since I felt like a zombie all the time, I used snacks to boost my energy--usually sweet and way too…

I cook for one (or actually, I don't really "cook" for one...) My macros are completely adjustable based on needs or preferences. If I eat a "home-cooked" meal instead of takeout, it's a quick and easy combination of ingredients. I call it a scoop dinner. I always have a variety of frozen vegetables and meat on hand. When…

I eat out a ton and actually never account for extra fat in my numbers. By and large, I use entries from chain restaurants since most of the places I frequent aren’t large enough to require nutrition posting. Given that, I assume that consistency and economics are important enough that vast amounts of extra…

And cream, there's usually cream and butter both. Mashed potatoes are actually a "never order" for me because the additives can range so wildly.

That’s funny. Recipe mode and food tracking are a huge part of what made me stop cooking pretty much altogether.

Just get it off the nutrition section of their website.

No, MFP is crowd sourced and the only micro information will be what’s available on a standard nutrition label. Cronometer is the app I’ve seen recommended for the higher level of detail you’re looking for.
