  • Is MFP adding calories for exercise? MFP bakes the weight loss goals into your calorie count and then wants you to eat back any exercise calories. My calorie goal is ~1300 and I can get 200-600 calories from exercise.
  • I think the first thing to do is realize that you have a lot stacked against you. It isn't fair, and it is going to be very hard to beat it, but if you take is slow & don't get too discouraged, you will be able to become more fit. I would rely on your MFP friends to help you stay realistic about your progress. If you are…
  • Those are great steps for a start. If you want to start easing into exercise, you might want to take a look at Leslie Sansone's walking workouts. I believe she has some free on YouTube, but I don't know if they are geo-locked. There's also a series of videos called Shapely Girl. Everyone in the class is still normal…
  • So are there any rules of thumb to guesstimate the calories to start with? I don't know what I was eating before MFP and I don't seem to be able to log and not pay any attention to portion size. While I'm still eating the same things as I was eating before (will improve this at some point, but working on increase exercise…
  • I'm 48 and am looking to get healthier. I'm not sure what my final weight will be since I'm taking it 10 pounds at a time. Right now most of my focus is on adding exercise. I will tackle the food monster as soon as I'm ready - baby steps for me. Anyone, please feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like.
  • Wow, that sounds like a challenge. I haven't had a broken leg (thankfully), so I don't have any advice. You might want to post this in the Exercise forum. This section seems mostly to be people new to the site so you may get more response there. Good luck with your recovery! If you are looking for friends also, feel free…
  • Granola with nuts is fairly healthy and every time I eat it, it makes me whimper at how easy it is it wrack up calories, so you may want to try it. Plus it tastes delicious and makes a yummy snack.
  • I'm a 48 year-old who isn't quite sure how many pounds I'm shooting for. I'm taking it 10 pounds at a time. I'm also looking for supportive friends, so please feel free to add me.
  • Welcome to MFP. I've found the site very helpful and supportive. Please feel free to add me as a friend.

  • Have you ever tried Ballet Body? It won't get your heart racing, but the first few times I did it, I was sore for days. I love it even though I doubt my sanity about 5 minutes in.
  • My allergist says that I can count iced tea toward a water goal, but only count half of it. Since I live in Colorado and have asthma, making sure I stay hydrated is important - my goal from my allergist is 96-120 ounces per day. Luckily I don't mind constantly having water next to me.
  • Well, assuming that your husband is one of those allergic to "girly" DVDs, I would recommend taking a look at Leslie Sansone. I think some of her videos are on YouTube. I also used the Shapely Girl DVDs when I was just starting out. They use larger people in the video so they weren't as intimidating for a beginner.
  • I just got a pair of Ascics because I was having trouble with lunges - basically kept walking out of the shoe on the back foot which made lunges really challenging to do. I would go to a store with a lot of choices and try them on and see how they feel with some of the moves you think you are going to do. That's how I…
  • Ok, this is weird, but how I drink water makes a big difference for me. If I try to drink water out of a glass or a bottle, I have to work to drink it all. But, if I drink water through a straw, it seems to disappear really quickly. I don't know why a straw makes a difference, but any other way is boring, but it works for…
  • I like her workout for the days I don't think I can work out. When I'm feeling stressed or very tired, her workouts are awesome. They get your heart up without any stressing over choreography. I also like Debbie Rocker's Quick Start Walking for Weight Loss for when I need a slightly harder workout. It's more high impact…
