I had the implanon for a year and was puffy and swollen the whole year. After getting it removed I pee'd for 2 days straight and lost the 10 pounds of fluid within a week. I guess that's just how I react to progesterone. I had other side effects from it as well (but not increased appetite) that meant it was simply not…

Sorry but the whole don't use a treadmill while pregnant thing is simply not true. You could just as easily fall while tripping over a curb you didn't see while walking around but no one is going to tell you not to leave the house. You are an adult who is quite capable of deciding what you are safe to do. There are lots of…

I did 500 calories a day for exclusive nursing from 0-9 months, 250 a day once they were eating significant amounts of solids alongside breastfeeding (9-12 months) and no extra calories after 12 months. Obviously you may have to tweak that based on if you are losing what you'd expect, or losing too fast etc.

I went home after having mine removed and ate a hot pocket and then went to my Irish dance class that night. You maybe fine!

I have also suffered from this last winter when I was struggling to lose weight and looked into the evidence around it. There was a study that showed vitamin D supplementation could help obese and overweight people lose (statistically) significantly more weight than people who were not supplementing. I think the difference…

Mine's accurate. I'm even more sedentary than I thought.

If you've got a positive test you are pregnant! Whether or not you chose to tell anyone this early is your decision alone. There is nothing wrong about telling people early if that is what you want to do. If you feel it would be upsetting to have to explain to people that you have miscarried on the chance you do have one,…

When I wasn't on enough thyroid medication after the birth of my second child (having already had treated hypothyroidism for 8+ years) I was maintaining 185 pounds at 5'8 eating 1300-1500 calories a day of weighed food and measured drink. My TDEE must have been around 1400 calories, when every online calculator and my…

As someone who's been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for 11 years, I think this sums it up! So many doctors rely on TSH without looking at the whole picture. I know I can be on just enough thyroid medication to fall into the ''normal'' range and still be symptomatic (unable to lose weight and miserable). A slight raise in…

Breastfeeding adds a whole other dimension to weight loss. Lots of women will tell you those last 10 pounds don't want to come off until you wean and then they come off fast. Other women can eat anything and everything and lose it all plus some. The hormonal side that regulates breastfeeding makes it very individual to…

My chronic hives were caused by a severe vitamin d deficiency. It's worth having that and your B12 levels checked.

With exclusive breastfeeding you can and probably do burn up to 500 calories a day. As that tails off when they start adding in solids that amount will decrease. Personally I wouldn't aim to lose more than .5 pound a week while breastfeeding as sudden decreases in calories may effect milk production. Work out what that…

I've been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for 11 years, since I was 19. I've likely had it since childhood though as I've been symptomatic since then. The medication will not make you lose weight but it should level the playing field so that you can lose weight by eating less calories than you burn. I've had ups and downs…

I went through something similar and spent 3 months eating at a deficit and exercising and losing nothing. Eventually I was diagnosed with a severe vitamin d deficiency, which can slow weight loss to a crawl. Furthermore the antihistimine I was on has been linked to weight gain. I was able to stop taking the antihistimine…

It's worth considering Cushing's Syndrome if you feel your abdominal weight is extreme compared to the rest of you. Also consider any medications you may be on. I found the antihistamine i was taking had me piling on weight even though that wasn't listed as a symptom. I was able to stop taking it and that weight started…

I'm a student midwife in the UK, not a doctor. However, even a lowly midwife could tell you it is imperative to gain weight during pregnancy if you started the pregnancy underweight. Low maternal weight is associated with negative outcomes for babies such as low birth weight, prematurity, and delivery complications. I…

Pre-pregnancy weight: 158 Delivery weight: 181 (+23 pounds) 3 weeks postpartum: 172 4 weeks postpartum: 172 (14 pounds to goal) Over a week meeting my calorie goals and no weight lost. I'm eating too much junk and need to exercise but I don't see that happening until my big one goes back to school. I'm going to reduce my…

I homebirthed 3 weeks ago and wore a beach cover up which was really just a black t-shirt dress and a black tube top underneath. I took the t-shirt off when I got in the birthing pool. black was a good choice.

Pre-pregnancy weight: 158 Delivery weight: 181 (+23 pounds) 3 weeks postpartum: 172 I had lost 10 pounds (nearly 8 of that was baby) but managed to find one of those again. On day 3 of tracking and ready to get rid of this last 14 pounds. Or maybe 10 since I'm sure 4 of those are in my boobs. I'm eating 1650 calories to…

Yes, I lost my massive appetite about 3 days before! Hope you girls aren't far off.

Freckledleann, hope you're in labour as I type. Tobias Conrad (Toby) was born yesterday 22/7/2013, at 5:54 am in a birthing pool in our conservatory with hubby and 2 midwives in attendance. I had a bloody show on Sunday morning so we spent the day getting sorted, did the grocery shopping, cleaned, etc. I had very mild…

Thank you for sharing your birth stories ladies. Things don't always go to plan but it sounds like you both did a great job advocating for what you wanted and exploring your options before moving on to the next step. They were lovely stories and congratulations on your beautiful babies! Igottaworkout- really hope something…

How's everyone doing? Any twinges (gosh, I hate when people ask me that!)? I'm 2 days past my due date now and feeling a bit stressed. I saw the midwife yesterday morning and the baby's heart rate was quite low so I rushed to the hospital for a CTG and of course everything was fine! They even said the baby was extremely…
