Lots of decent advice above! What struck me was that you are only 9 weeks into running! Along with all of the above, be patient! I have been running for a couple months shy of two years now. In that time I have seen way too many people injure themselves but pushing too hard too fast.

Kudos to your for your hard work and determination. I can tell you that as you keep going it gets even better! I was once the obese guy sweating in the back of the class. The guy who brought two full sized bath towels to mop the floor so that others would not slip and fall! That guy no longer exists! I have been reborn and…

I ran through the winter last year. Weekend mornings & weekday evenings (in the dark). Not sure about where you live? My area is a suburb of Montreal. We have lots of decently light roads to run on. I am particularly lucky as there are several kilometers of water front bike paths where I can run in the winter where no cars…

You are doing awesome! At 4 weeks you are now into the new habit zone! Alcohol, aside from it's addictive properties, is a situational problem. If Happy Hour is the issue? Go to the gym from 5-7! Lots of non-drinking people there. I guarantee! I stopped drinking a little over 15 years ago. Mostly because of my children.…

Two thumbs up! I think it's important to enjoy the experience of running. A smile is a great first step!

Google search for Vegetarian and/or Vegan recipes. There is LOTS of info on line. What has worked for me is to add in a couple of ingredients with my search. As for sources. Forks over Knives Engine2 Diet Happy Herbivore http://sharan-india.org/

LOL! I get the same! From most people, I just smile & nod. I figure why pay attention to anyone who is not there beside me while I am running, lifting, or whatever. The one person where it stings a little is when I get it from my wife. I feel for her situation! She married a big guy who is no longer big. She understands!,…

Home fitness absolutely possible! You have an internet connection? Check Youtube. Lots of people there with decent routines/ideas. What worked for me. Was to set a time 2-3x per week and ALWAYS get it done. Start small if you do not exercise much. After 4 weeks or so, this will become a routine. After a few more weeks you…

AWESOME post!!! For me it's #18! LOL!

Awesome!! Congrats!

Intervals/fartleks & hill training helped me immensely! In the spring my 10k pace was a little over 6:00/K (roughly 10 MPH). Dropped it to low single digit 5:00 range by mid August. 5:00 - 5:05/k (roughly 11 MPH). And, still working on improving!

You can do everything at home!! Lots of great online ideas. My fav is Zuzana - ZWOW on Youtube I also found a great book. Called - You are your own Gym. Some great ideas for how to set up a body weight training program that uses little to no equipment.

Maple syrup may have calories but this sweetener is natural like honey. (If it is real?) I say have a little from time to time! Not every day and not in huge quantities. But a little maple syrup from time to time is a great treat!

Relatively new vegetarian here. Still figuring it out and learning. Long term goal is to have a healthy, plant strong diet. Giving up meat was my first step. Now slowly reducing dairy & eggs. I started only after losing my excess weight. As I investigated food during my weight loss, I started questioning what I was and had…

Thanks! I have had DOMS with weight lifting. In the past I got through by getting back in the gym. Went out today and did groceries with my wife. Just to get out and walking a little. Tomorrow some light weights and yoga. Wednesday out for a 3 - 5K run with my local RR. I should be back to a "normal/regular" training…

I am 48 and still adding distance and improving times. Ran my first marathon yesterday and already planning my next and how to improve the time! I would say that you have years of potential improvement left! In fact I BELIEVE you have years of improvement as I believe that I have years of improvement left!

What a great story! So inspirational!

YES!! My long runs have taken the wind out of my day each time. BUT! They also move the bar a little each time. I have been training for my first marathon since early June. My first longer that 21k run was 23k. Like you, ate & drank well. But, the exertion had me loafing with no energy for the balance of the day. And, it…

This has happened to me. At the end of a long run this past summer. (About a month ago). For me it related more to food than water. But, probably both involved. It was a hot & sunny day. We had an early long run and I slept in. Ran out to meet group without eating anything! Popped a couple of gels as we started and a few…

Ditto! Exercise of all kinds great for building fitness. Run, walk, swim, bike, dance, etc, etc, etc! Want to lose weight? Focus on what you eat! Do not mus-interpret! Everyone needs some combination of both, proper eating and exercise! But, if you are at the beginning of a weight loss journey? Focus on getting your eating…

I'm a work in progress Vegetarian (with the goal of being completely plant strong one day). I do not discuss it much online but always glad to have like minded buddies.

Hey there, A rugged Canadian here! :-) Last winter was my first running outside all winter. My first half marathon was a winter run this past Feb. First, winter running is lots of fun! This surprised me last year. I was mentally preparing myself for months of cold wet misery. If you run outside now, keep with your current…

Ditto on the advice already given. Go slow. If being out of breath is an issue? Start with some version of a run/walk combination. What helped me at the beginning was setting small obtainable goals. My initial circuit was slightly over 3k. First time out it took me 45 min to complete and I had to stop and walk 5x. My…

You don't! Do what you want! You get out and run from time to time? Then you are a runner! Don't let anyone tell you any different. What I have found is that as I have become more involved in running, it becomes about some improvement from one time to the next. ie I ran 10k last summer @ 1:03:00, This summer my 10k time is…

LOL! That was awesome! :-)

Did not mean to sound like an *kitten*! Was trying relate to the difference in training for half or less and full or more. I have (am) doing full training right after a half. Two entirely different commitments! Poor choice of words. Apologies to any who were offended. But my thought remains. Is there time & energy to work…
