  • Have fun on Killington! I did the Ottawa Beast. That was a long, tough 6 hours! I have buddies running in VT this weekend. You will all know when it's done! Aroo!
  • @BrianSharpe - Awesome picture sir! And, crazy is relative! I used to be a sofa, soft drinks, chips & dip kind of guy. That was truly insane!
  • I LOVE my Altra's (Trail & street shoes)! Another brand to check out would be Merril.
  • Just in case there was any question about my running in the cold! ;-) A picture from last January. A Saturday morning 10K @ -26 Deg C (A selfie while waiting for a train to go by)
  • Hope winter is not too harsh for you! I run outside all year long. For me, winter is a more enjoyable running experience than in the heat of the summer. (I live just outside Montreal, Quebec) How to do it? First, don't stop in the fall. Keep up your running schedule as the seasons change. My thought is that this allows…
  • I have been playing around with Jefit for about 6 weeks now. I used to take a note book with me to the gym to track my workouts. I now bring my Galaxy S4 phone and just follow along with my pre-set workout. Love it! But, it is easier to set up a workout using the online website with a computer than with a phone or tablet.…
  • The pain is almost certainly due to over training. 5k/day every day with other training is too much. You need at least one rest day per week to allow your body the chance to heal. If you are interested in running? Look for an app like C25K (mentioned above) or better yet, find a local running group and join up. Most groups…

  • As mentioned above. Depends on your goals. What has been suggested to me by a couple of different trainers is to do a max 10 min of moderate "cardio" before a weight training session. These were gym based trainers so their cardio meant dreadmill, eliptical or skip rope.
  • Why one or the other? Personally, my preference is to run outside. I work in an office and running is my chance to get outside and move around. And, there are a variety of different outside running workouts. Speed/sprints, tempo, hill repeats and long runs are all part of a good training plan. This is not to say I do not…
  • Hello Tricia, not sure where you are on your journey. If you are working on weight loss? What worked for me was a series of small steps. First, get into the mindset that you will be making lifestyle changes. A "diet" does not / will not work. Once I found MFP, I started logging everything I ate. After a few weeks this gave…
  • Congratulations! An awesome result!
  • If you are running in a group. Talk with someone while you run. When I first started running I had the same issue, always felt out of breath! I convinced a couple of friends to sign up for a 5K and commit to training together. This was an awesome experience. We met 1-2x per week to run a per-determined distance. As we were…
  • Applause! Excellent work! And, I am another running addict! Pretty sure there is no 12 step program for it! :-)
  • As you seem to have an active and complete exercise regime. My bet is that you will see results by focusing on your eating habits. First, review your calories in vs calories out. Then look at what you eat. Reduce refined sugars, increase proteins and try to add in complex carbs. And, do not stress about muscle mass! Keep…
  • Salad: Spinach, snow peas, celery, carrots, red onion, mushrooms, red peppers, hemp & pumpkin seeds & a few slices of avocado. Dressing = raw garlic + balsamic vinegar + olive oil.
  • Yes, what this guy said! Make sure you focus on enjoying the experience! Aside from this, the only suggestion I have is that you run the race as you have trained for your long runs. This is what your body is used to. As for the weights? I say you should taper there just as you taper with the runs. Have fun and enjoy!
  • 15 min is way longer than I lasted when I started! Keep at it! Your body will adjust to the change quickly. I bet that in 2 - 3 weeks you will be able to get through an entire workout. Maybe with a few stops to catch your breath? But, you will finish.
  • So, you do kickboxing, weights, run and have excellent cardiovascular tests! You are so at the top of the class! How fast you run means diddly squat! First, you are running warp speed faster than anyone sitting on their sofa. Second, your regime sounds very well rounded and geared towards total fitness. Applause!!! For…
  • I am way to shy to share anything even remotely "nude". Also fair to say that even with weight/resistance training, my weight loss has not made the naked me any more attractive. In fact I am probably worse off in the respect. To each their own! But, for me, shorts & a sleeveless shirt in the heat of summer is as close to…

  • I'm a guy but had a similar experience. Although for me, losing my "moobs" was a good thing! As for clothes, yes, losing weight was a very expensive ordeal. Not only did I need to buy new clothes when I hit my target weight/size. I bought 2 sets of in between clothes!. Wore my 48" pants until I hit around a 40…
  • I think that this is likely some version of an urban myth. However, I think there is a lot to the notion of when and what you eat in relationship to your exercise regime. ie Complex carbs before a long run and protein after a big/heavy weights workout.
  • Congratulations! My first NSV was when I needed to buy a new belt for my pants!
  • YES! There are no instantaneous results and a bag of chips or pizza on a Friday night is not the end of the world. Time effort and an almost continuous evaluation and adjustment is needed. But, as a question only!! Do you find that what you eat affects how you feel? I ask as part of my past issues with obesity had more to…
  • Check out Youtube. Lots of ideas there. Also, I enjoy the P90X DVD's. Especially the yoga!
  • Running shoes! Then go outside and use them often!
  • Most initial weight loss begins with what and how much you eat. I am a big believer that an active body is a healthy one. Not to be disrespectful but I am almost 50, work in a job that requires an above average amount of attention to details and has ever changing priorities. I know what it is to leave the office and feel…
  • Captain Kirk! (William Shatner)!
  • I have music from time to time when I run on the very cold winter days. I have been part of a local running group for a little over a year now. So, I have company for long runs. For most of my individual runs, I enjoy the scenery and being out doors. A time to de-stress and unwind! :-)
  • Do you have any access to a mental health professional? Psychologist? Therapist? You may have some underling issue that could be helped with a proper diagnosis and treatment. Which may or may not include drugs. Some thing that has helped me greatly has been exercising in a group. Try joining a class of some form. Yoga,…
  • Great suggestions!
