  • With a 7 mile (12k) under your belt. Take a few days off. When you say that the 7/27 race kicked your butt and you have not yet recovered. In what sense? No strength? Soreness? Pain? Also, had you reached the 7 mile distance in training before the race? Or were you ate a lesser distance and hit the longer distance race…
  • Random compliments are both gratifying and creepy at the same time. Was obese most of my adult life. So, now that I get compliments on my physique is gratifying. But, I am relatively shy so it creeps me out at the same time. I will say that hearing the occasional complement is way better than some of the nasty comments…
  • If you are not training for anything specific? ie - Half or full marathon. Running can be a fun and energizing part of your weekly exercise regime. This past spring I was running 2-3x per week and hitting the weights 2-3x as well. My routine was Tues & Thurs - weights, with Wed & Sun being running days. Some times I would…
  • Up to an hour, I am good with just water. After that, I go with the little gummy style energy candies. I tried the gels but found that I had to consume the whole thing in one shot. With the candies, I hit them up one at a time about every 20 - 25 min from the 60 min mark onward. I melt/mash them in my mouth over a few…
  • I know of what you say! :-) I was so afraid of gaining back weight I kept wearing clothes waaayyyy beyond the time I should have retired them! For months, I was folding my pants in the back and I added extra holes in my belt to keep them up! Then once I did start buying new clothes, I kept the old clothes! Took me almost 6…
  • There are many sub-categories of Vegetarian. Not sure where I land but, I stopped eating meat at the beginning of this year and the change was not too hard to incorporate into my life. I am slowly working at reducing diary & eggs. Still a work in progress but the journey has not been as hard as I thought. As for losing…
  • Did not see nipple burn mentioned yet! :-)
  • 3 months from my 46th birthday, my Doctor told me I had seriously high blood pressure and that it was almost certain that I would have a cardiovascular "event" before I turned 50 if I did not change my life style.
  • Any exercise is good for you! Running is no exception. And, would be a great addition to a weights/resistance weekly routine. My suggestion is to start slowly. If you have a smart phone (Apple or Android) try one of the C25K (Couch to 5k) apps. These are a great way to get started. Another great way to get going and keep…
  • I'm with you! I saw success by changing one small thing at a time. Once this change became a habit (3 -4 weeks), I would then focus on something else. It does not take too many small changes to start seeing great results. Best of all, with this I never felt deprived of anything! (There were some issues at the beginning but…
  • I would say that it is possible for anyone to achieve a flat tummy. But, different people will have different problems getting there. Sit-ups, crunches or any type of core work will not give anyone a flat tummy! This is a goal that absolutely requires meticulous food management along with a regular exercise that includes…
  • OMG! YES! I went through this! Took me months to buy new clothes and start wearing them. For a few weeks I wore a couple of pair of pants where I was folding them over in the back and pinning it. My wife finally forced me to start buying new clothes. The hardest part was going through my closet and bagging up all my fat…
  • AWESOME!!! WTG!
  • Natural Born Killers!! The only movie I have ever walked out of.
  • Just Goggle Quinoa Recipes. You will get pages of hits and toms of suggestions. I make a quinoa & black bean taco salad that everyone in my family loves!
  • First, take some body measurements. Sounds silly, I know! But, weight is only one metric to use to measure success. As lean muscle is around 5x denser than fat, at some point your weight loss may "plateau" while your body continues to change. I did not take body measurements when I started and I regret it! I suggest…
  • Interesting problem! I have struggled in the past with the opposite! Too much sodium! 2500 mg per day seems to be a recommended standard in both the USA & Canada. There has been suggestions that people with high blood pressure should reduce to 1500mg. This I think is still being debated & studied. As for what contains…
  • My children are young adults who are still living at home. My weight loss and new attention to what I eat along with my exercise routine have absolutely been a positive influence. Both my children have lost a serious amount of weight and now have active lives that includes regular exercise. Just the removal of soft drinks…
  • Run hills! Find a hill with a decent incline. Then run to the top and back down. Repeat! Start small, 2 -3 reps once or twice per week. Add reps and frequency as it becomes easier. I have no idea how this will help your booty! But, it will absolutely make you stronger! If you eat clean? I would expect that you will see…

  • Weights and/or body weight resistance exercises. If you can join a weights gym, they should provide you with a beginners program. If not, there is a book called "You are your own gym". http://youareyourowngym.com/ This has lots of great body weight exercise/resistance style suggestions and will help put together a program…
  • Personally, for me it's the butt & legs. Face, curves, demeanor are all make up the package. But my gaze goes first to the butt & legs.
  • You are not alone sir! Been an *kitten* most of my life. Trying hard to make up for the past by being a better person today. With the goal to improve even more tomorrow. I believe that part of my weight gain was due to my poor attitude and angry state of mind. Feeling better these days and using exercise and healthier…
  • Dude! You ROCK! Kudos on the transformation your hard work has accomplished!
  • Ditto on the see a Doctor suggestion. Perhaps even a nutritionist. If your eating is under control and a Doctor gives you the healthy thumbs up? Go back to the gym and speak privately with the owner/manager.
  • I am a struggling vegetarian because I want to live a healthier life. (I feel that eating little to no meat helps me accomplish this goal). Personally, I am no part of the Vegan crowd with regards to eating animals or using animal products. BUT! And it's a big BUT! I have some very big problems with factory farms. What…
  • I try and change my focus 2 - 3x per year. Currently I am training for a long run in Sept. In the past I have focused on Martial arts, weight training, yoga, cycling & I tried a session of gymnastics. I highly recommend trying many things and not getting stuck committed to a single activity. Life is too short and there are…
  • Food is harder for me. I love to eat! Always have. And, I am making it harder! I have been meat free since Feb 1st this year. The plus side is that I love to cook and try new recipes. I have found lots of tasty vegetarian recipes and I am getting better at controlling the salt/sugar/fat in what I cook. As for exercise. I…
  • Nice! Love the one about having to convince the mind!
  • Yes! It seems to mitigate when I take about 10 - 15 min after a run to cool down before having a shower. And, after hot day summer runs I end my showers by switching to all cold water. It's a bit of a shock to the system but it reduces any sweating when I get out of the shower.
