At your height and weight, I wouldn't suggest trying to lose much more than 1/2 pound a week, which means you need to have a daily calorie deficit of 250 calories. I don't know what activity level you have. Do you work out? Do you have a physically demanding job with lots of movement? Some of these will play big parts in…

What they said. Talk to the doctor. I might also suggest a course of physical therapy, which can help tremendously. They were the ones who set me on this course by helping me during rehab from knee replacement in September. A good P.T. is worth their weight in gold. Ibuprofen and ice are your best friends. And I don't know…

Personally, I weigh in once a week. At least officially. It's not a bad idea to get an idea of what is going on. Just don't freak, don't let the scale rule your life. I've gotten to the point now where I weigh myself once or twice a day, but always more for entertainment purposes only. More for *kitten*$ and grins. Can I…

Feel free to add me if you would like. I'm here every day, trying to support and motivate my friends and give the best advice I can. Usually with a slightly warped sense of humor) but I love it. And it motivates me to do more for myself. Good luck on your journey.

Well as someone who is now fast approaching the 1 year anniversary of getting his right knee replaced (September 24), I regretted my decision for a couple of weeks. But since then I can say it's been the best thing for me. I've accomplished all of this weight loss, body recomposition and everything else since I got…

^^^ AGREE COMPLETELY ^^^. It can take a long, LONG time to restore your metabolism. Some studies show a year or more. Sometimes even two. Anything you do to slow the regenerative process is only hurting yourself. Please be careful.

And one more thing a lot of people seem to forget. It is probably a good idea every month or two to return to Scooby's and recalculate your TDEE. It will change as your weight decreases. Make any slight modifications needed because of that change as well.
-
Thanks, our answers crossed. At 5'3, 10.2 (which translates to 142 pounds if I remember my stones ==> pounds translation), using the TDEE calculator over at Scooby's workshop, using a light exercise level setting (because of your active child), your TDEE is about 2172 calories a day. Since you are trying to lose only about…

^^^ THIS ^^^. Definitely need to know more to give solid advice. But on the face of it, trying to lose another 10 pounds, my guess is you, and MFP, are being too aggressive. How did you set your target: losing 0.5 pounds/week? 1 pound, 2 pounds? Weight, age and height would help immensely.
-
Yes, you can go to the goals tab under my home. Then at the bottom poke on change goals. Then choose the option to "Custom, manually set my own goals". Then you can enter your own target, and change the macros if you want. There are about as many different thoughts on macro distribution as there are MFP members, so you…

It's strange. I really have never had any cravings issues. Maybe a fleeting thought but not really a craving. Maybe it's my OCD nature to do this thing, grab it by the throat and strangle the hell out of it. I'm going to win this battle and food isn't going to. I think in the end it's mind over matter. If you are in…

You want to be short and bald? :)

More great advice. In fact, I don't think it is a bad thing to reward yourself once in a while. Take a cheat day or at least a cheat meal. I've had friends eat close to 3500 calories on their cheat days (on a 'budget" of 1500-1800). Still losing weight, still going strong. Sometimes people get so damned serious about these…

The only difference is that I'm 57 in dog years. Cause there are times I can be a real beyotch. WOOF!!!

No Problem. Judgment and shaming is for people with control issues and who question what they are doing. I know what has worked for me, but I don't presume that it is for everyone or that there is one, and only one, way to lose weight. Every body is different and we all need to try and see what works for us. Both in terms…

I'm wondering how you set up your MFP goals. How much weight are you trying to lose? Did you choose the 2 pounds/week target? Realistically, I don't think 2 pounds a week is going to work for you. Using what you posted, I used the calorie calculator at Scooby's workshop to calculate your TDEE. It puts your TDEE at 2137…

I snack on turkey and/or chicken breast and eye of round roast. Nothing wrong with eating lean meats as snacks. Tuna would also be great and you can get those packets you can just carry around, or small cans of chicken or tuna.
-
Yup, that's me. That way if something comes up, adaptation is possible. And it's easier to resist any possible temptation knowing that you don't have room in your calorie "budget". I can't imagine not doing it.
-
With the help of MFP, it sure has seemed easy to me. And being a numbers geek and an ardent logistician, planning the attack was actually fun for me. I'm eating 5-6 meals a day. And in the almost 8 months I've been here, I can honestly say I've been hungry two, maybe 3 times that whole time. So I just moved up one of my…

Then I would definitely not try either CKD or carb cycling because they are kind of strict.. Still you should get good results.
-
The difference between cyclical ketogenic (which I'm doing right now) and carb cycling (which I will probably be starting in a month or so after taking a break after the cylical keto trial) is in degrees. With CKD, you are low carbs at least 5-6 days a week. I've been in single digit carbs every day on the low carb phase.…

Obese is a medical diagnosis so it shouldn't be offensive to be told by your doctor that you are obese. However, what I love from some of the family and internal medicine docs around here are ads promoting their wellness programs. And you look at the doctor in the ad and he is well into the morbidly obese category himself.…

Of course, from my point of view, the BMI charts are about as useful as teats on a bull. So many weaknesses, so many flaws. A "gross" instrument (rather than an exact instrument). Too many people place too much emphasis on the BMI number, just like they do the scale number. There isn't a competitive bodybuilder in the…

Nobody likes a braggart. :). But Dave and Buster's? Really? Why not Chuck E. Cheese? Same thing.

I've got 2 of them. Chris is 35, eats whatever he wants, pigs out on McDonald's anytime he wants (which is often), never goes to the gym. 5'7", 145, and abs anyone here would turn green with envy over. How he does it at 35 (when most of us have really started to pack on a few pounds) is amazing and disgusting at once.…

Foxy Thornden (we had a smooth fox terrier -- not the most creative name for him, but it sure works here. :) )

False. My real life is fantasy enough. TNP has an NFL team training near them.

As one of his friends, I can say that Abram is certainly a good one to have. And I'm always up for new friends too. I'm here every day (well I sorta took a day off this week when friends were visiting from out of town). I love motivating and supporting people. So if you want to have an older gay guy who loves to lift you…

I'm not overweight. I'm just under-height. Of course at my height, no matter what I weigh, I'm under height.
