I've had several lovely comments from a staffer at my gym - a lovely lady with a beautiful smile who keeps everyone happy when she works - and they really make me happy: - (Said while I was wearing my fave tank top after a workout:) "You look like such a strong woman! And you've got such nicely developed traps!" - (Said…

I don't bother measuring my exercise on MFP, I find the calorie burn estimations so off that I can't justify using the feature. I've recently been experimenting with heart rate-based calorie burn calculations using the heart rate grips on the ellipticals I use at the gym. I just don't know how accurate the grips are - they…

Calisthenics? Not exactly old school or exotic, I'd say, they're quite common and I do them too! You can definitely sculpt some nice muscle doing so, for sure. My arms and back have been steadily improving (abs hard to say, I can't see mine yet). Do you progress in your exercises at all? For example, if you're able to do…

Fat storage is based in genetics, unfortunately, and sometimes the belly's gonna be the last to go. It's like that for me, too, and despite having a BMI of 23.8, I still have my belly (kinda - it is going down, though, yay~). I don't really have a goal based on BMI, though. I base my ultimate goal weight (107-110lbs) on…

It's hard for me to see on my computer, but 25+% sounds accurate to me. I'm 28% at 5' 1/4" and 122 and fairly similar looking - and my number may be higher than I am, I haven't measured it comprehensively in a while. And yes, it's entirely possible to have a low overall weight and a higher BF%. If you haven't been building…

The Harris-Benedict Equation is not accurate. It was derived from studies on lean, young, active males in 1919 and is known for radically over-estimating the calorie counts. I use a weighted average of Mifflin-St. Jeor (25%) and Katch-McArdle (75%) to come to my stats. So far after a month of more or less the caloric…

Stretch like there's no tomorrow - 'cause tomorrow everything will feel like hell in a stretch. Also, foam roll. And drink tons of water and do move your legs around to help get rid of the stiffness.

I've used them before during intense training sessions for martial arts. I like 'em - they help me out a lot. I've found that I feel less totally drained at the end, which I really don't mind at all when I'm in my last round of a sparring match, ha ha!

I'm not sure if you're a zombie person, a listen-to-something-while-you-run person or someone who this would appeal to/be of use to at all - but I really love Zombies, Run!. It's a great app that gives you something to listen to, an engaging story to follow and really motivates you to work on running the whole distance you…

I think it varies for everyone. My dad works out as soon as he won't cough a lung up on the treadmill or sneeze all over a machine, and it works for him. Personally, I have a window of opportunity: if I feel a cold coming on, but I'm still in the scratchy throat phase of things, I can get in a good work out, soak in a hot…

Oh, I like you a lot. Personally, I feel like if they comment on my weight they're likely insecure about that. So I'd just lose it, look great and just keep talking about it around them. If they continue to feel insecure, I get my revenge. If they get over themselves and realize they can change, too, then I've found a new…

I'm not sure why, but I always look disfavourably on candy bowls in the office. I view them as a secret plot. Namely because I'm the *kitten* who'd put a candy bowl on my desk if I hated my coworkers and goad them all into eating it. Fortunately, I like my coworkers. Slow revenge is good revenge.

This "air" - how many payments of $39.99 do I make? And if I call now, do I get two for free?

I'm gonna take a different route and think that maybe it's not just your concern about weight gain but that the food prepped by who you'll be visiting may be so disgustingly unhealthy that it really isn't palatable to you anymore. Had a situation like that this past Christmas when I visited my boyfriend's sister-in-law.…

I wish we had a like button. I like you.

You can't just look at your "bad habit" snacks and ignore everything else when you look back at what you've done in the past. I put "bad habit" in quotes because if you hit your macros, then screw it. Go for it. Eat the goddamn cookie. Analyze your eating habits now, take everything into account. Binge? Write it down. Ate…

Used to. Now I just say "no". You don't need it or want it. You're not hungry, it doesn't make you happy and it doesn't serve a purpose to eat it. Look if you want, but when you reach the table, go for the vegetables. Now, if I have cake and such, I will - but I make it a conscious decision. I look at it, take a small bit…

If that's all it takes, luv, you're gonna have a hard time.

Don't have a car to have tires to be helped with, so unfortunately no. Have you ever played with toy dinosaurs as a grown adult?

A quote from a little boy whose mum kept telling him "tomorrow, honey, tomorrow": Today is tomorrow.

I kept running. I hated it, and I kept running. At one point, I started loving it.

I'm not "fit" and I'm not sure if I'm what you'd consider "sexy", but I'm known to be hard on myself. I'm normal weight. Working towards the lower end of it for them abs (and to save my weakened knee for when I finally rehab it enough to go full-force back into martial arts and running). I can like a fat guy, but I don't…

You're in the last 15lbs of weight loss. Your pace will slow drastically. This is not for a lack of effort on your part, or "doing things wrong". It's just how weight loss works. Your body tends to hang on to those last pounds for its life - because that's what those last few pounds were for originally. They were meant to…

I'm so jealous of your friend! XD I lose from my extremities first. It's really bizarre. Like, my hands get skeletal (or really thin - I didn't know I stored that much fat in my hands! They're beautiful to me now, but when I first started losing I didn't realize that my hands had been sausages!), then my forearms and…

I pay attention to my protein, and I should pay more attention to fat and fiber, but most times I'm just happy to hit my protein count. I have a hard time with that. Aside from that, I just count calories.

Salad! Bring a good, lovely green salad! Spinach and strawberries with some sliced almonds - leave the dressing on the side (I like my spinach salads with a light vinaigrette) for folks to help themselves as they like. But seriously. Bring a great big green salad. They're hardly ever brought to potlucks and they're sorely…

I started at 5' 1/4" and around 155lbs. I set my first goal for 125lbs, but when I got there I found that my body wasn't at all as lean as I wanted it to be. So I started doing some reading and found that I was aiming at losing body fat percentage more than anything - gaining those lean abs and "toned" arms would all be…

This is a super-long post - firstly (and most importantly) addressing OP's question. After that, it's addressing the idea of what "having a heart" really is. OP, I'm going to second the compound lifts. It's amazing how much squats really work your core. When I first started compound lifting, I had been in karate for three…
