Fueled by sugar

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to understand how my own metabolism works and I keep getting information that is contradictory to my experiences and I'm wondering if I'm just weird. Last friday night I binged on candy. I had about 8 fun size candy bars and I felt a bit nauseaous later on that evening, but that quickly went away. I was worried about the consequences of such a binge (both on my waistline and on my energy levels and mood). I had some trouble falling asleep but the next morning I woke up like a morning lark. I was in such a good mood and I had tons of energy. Went to ballet class and did great. I was full of energy and I was super alert and with it. And it felt like my energy and drive was endless. I was so happy that I ran home in the rain. Later on, I ran errands like I was on speed. Why does sugar make me feel so good? These days, I've been finding myself really low on energy since I've been trying to cut sugar and carbs out of my diet and add more protein. Also, back in grad school I used to live off of Trader Joe's snacks. I'm not kidding when I say that cookies, australian licorice, and candy-coated sunflower seeds used to be diet staples. Somehow, I was my thinnest back then and I had the most energy. Is there a paradox here?

You have 5 pounds to lose and you call 8 fun size candy bars a binge? I can see a problem, but it has nothing to do with sugar.0

Eight "fun size" candy bars is barely one full size bar. If that's a binge then you are setting the bar really high for yourself.0

You can't just look at your "bad habit" snacks and ignore everything else when you look back at what you've done in the past.
I put "bad habit" in quotes because if you hit your macros, then screw it. Go for it. Eat the goddamn cookie.
Analyze your eating habits now, take everything into account. Binge? Write it down. Ate "good"? Write it down. Write everything down for a month and experiment. After a day when you think you ate well, how did you feel? After eating a chocolate bar, how did you feel? After getting 8 hours of sleep, how did you feel?
There are more factors going on here than 8 fun sized candy bars.0 -
A lot of people find that they require some amount of carbs to feel energized. That's why the rule of thumb is hitting your protein and fat minimums and then filling in the rest based on performance, satiety and compliance.0
