I wasn't sure whether to respond or not as I don't really identify myself as a "medical" professional, but I saw so many people from 'allied' health professionals responded. I'm a psychiatric social worker (original degree in psychology, then did my MSW) and after 20 years in the field I decided to change course a little…

Personally, I felt a difference virtually immediately but I was also never completely unfit, so yes everyone's different.

I do RPM at my gym and love it too. It's great you found something you enjoy.

I guess I wouldn't fancy doing very much if I tried to exist on 700 cals a day. :|

When I see your profile pic, and can't help but note that you took a "before and after" comparison after 16 days... I can't help but wonder if you could be a little impatient. That in combination with your comment of "dieting and doing cardio on and off" makes me think you struggle to stick with things unless you see…

The weight loss is my reward.

Have you tried to force a Fitbit synch on your PC and then reload MFP?

This is about feelings of envy, competition and relational aggression. While your focus is on appearance, the root cause of your feelings are likely to be running a lot deeper but something will have triggered them recently.…

No! No drinking on Tramadol!!!

Okay. Do you feel your command of English would be insufficient to express your emotions well enough to be able to benefit from therapy?
-
Asking a bunch of strangers is not going to help you find the answers that you seek. Why is formal therapy an impossible choice?

It does indeed look like a very vicious circle. Your obesity causes you severe pain by causing your sciatica / arthritis etc or in the very least making it a lot worse. In an attempt to manage your pain (and I suspect also your misery...) you consume alcohol, which over time will not only add calories you don't need but…

Perhaps even to start logging what is a "normal" day for her rather than what should be her maintenance. If she is honest with her logging, she can then see how many calories she is eating above maintenance, helping her to project where she'll end up weight wise if she carries on like that.

So true. A friend/acquaintance of mine has lost next to no weight while being on Slimming World (this has been going on for years! -- lose a bit - gain it all back...), yet she harped on for ages about every little in and out of how it works and how she doesn't have to count any calories, there are "super speed free" foods…

The weight training entries are just for you to recall your sets / weights used etc. If you want to count weight training towards your calories you'll have to enter it as a cardiovascular activity. It comes up as "strength training".

That's over 3lb a week, which is a big ask. If your starting weight is in the 300s it might be doable, but if it's a question of let's say 175lb to 125lb, then it's highly unlikely. Healthy, sustainable weight loss is 1-1.5lb a week, so if you said 1.5lb a week that would be 100 weeks rather than 50. What's the rush?

A "healthy lifestyle"... gosh that's really subjective and probably quite a personal judgement call. For me personally it's about a lot more than healthy food and not being overweight, it's about functional fitness and strength, it's about getting enough sleep, it's about managing stress without resorting to cigarettes or…

Yup. That.

Tracking "most days"? If you're not tracking every day, what happens on the days where you don't track? When you do track, do you weigh (not measure with cups) your food?
-
That is amazing. You look like a different woman. You look half your age now.
-
Indeed. I'm 45 now and at some stage thought "who am I kidding" BUT then I came here and found the fitness forum is full of people in their 40s who are in fantastic shape!! I would look at the profiles of some ladies (usually the heavy lifters) and assumed they would be in their late 20s, just to find they were my age! In…

I started to notice quite quickly. I'm 5'6", start weight 177lb or thereabouts, current weight 156lb, goal weight about 130lb or just under. I'm doing a course with some people that I only see once a week and they started commenting at around 14lb loss. I caught up with a friend I see about once a month and she immediately…

My dog is a border collie too and the vets advice was with regards to her. They will never lose interest but that's not the point, it's about their bone growth!

People started commenting after about six weeks. I'm 3.5 months in, 21lb down and over 4" off my waist now. (Start weight 175lb, goal weight 130lb).

I'm a bit confused by your diary. In the last 3 days you logged about 700 cals each... then you only log breakfast and nothing else all day... then a day of no logging at all? How do you actually keep track of your calorie intake? I think once you start to make the effort to WEIGH and LOG everything you actually consume,…

I think in order to make a habit of being more active it mustn't feel like a chore. You simply need to find something you actually enjoy. The choices are endless.... yoga, pilates, spin classes, Zumba, other dance-based classes, kettle bells, crosstrain, running, swimming, cycling, hiking/walking, strength training, or if…
