Your chips are called "crisps" in the UK. Chips in the UK are fries, as in french fries but we use chips also as in "fish and chips" or "burger and chips".

I log every day. We have two dogs, so I walk at least 3-5 miles a day with them. I also run a bit, cycle a bit, strength train a bit, play a bit of squash. I'm kind of half way to my goal weight now.

Well if looks is all that matters, then the advice is sound.

"Best results" in what? Cardiovascular fitness or just appearance?

4-6lb a week is a weekly deficit of 14,000-21,000 calories. Unless you're presently 400lb that's not going to happen. You might lose 4-6lb in the first week if you are very large, but that will be water weight. This rate won't be sustainable.

This post is not meant to be a scaremongering tactic, but I recently buried my parents. Both died from smoking related disease. Both suffered greatly before they died. My mother died of COPD and after a year and a half on oxygen, having stents fitted in her lungs and being pumped with steroids, she effectively slowly…

and if you're 400lb you're unlikely to be walking 5 miles while at work...

2000 calories from 10,000 incidental steps???

This helpful chart floats around the forums. It explains where most people go wrong. The standard reply of "you're not eating enough" is one of those responses that's a bit of a myth for most people. The most likely issue usually seen is people eating far more than they think because they don't weigh their food, or use…

OP: what is your current weight? This will also influence your burn. Try this... http://www.bicycling.com/training/weight-loss/cycling-calories-burned-calculator although the calculator only starts at 10mph really. I tapped in my stats and it came out at 230 for 53 mins at 10mph, so considering you're slower than that the…

I burn about 600 calories on an hour road ride (HRM data), but my pace would be around 14-16mph. It can also vary by the terrain... hilly course vs flat route etc.

How long does it take to be in shape / fit...? That's such a subjective question. However many other people's responses you will read, it still won't give you any idea of how long it will take you to get "in shape". Also what is "fit" to one person is pretty unfit by someone else's standards. My return to fitness started 3…

My other half has Friday and Monday off (public holidays in UK), so we actually had more time to exercise together. Friday we did a 30 mile bike ride and took the dogs for a 5 mile walk. Sunday the weather will be rubbish so we booked a squash court. Easter is a great opportunity to spend time with those we love and DO…

That's an awful lot of drama over a pound and a half of TOTM water retention. :|

Can you clarify, are you in your 240s or 140s now???

Two things. Weight loss isn't linear. .... and ..... be patient! The weight didn't pile on in 2 weeks and it won't come off in 2 weeks.

"Children aged 10-14 will indulge in an average of more than two-and-a-half kilograms of chocolate over the Easter holiday - taking in nearly 13,000 calories and 650 grams of fat, a survey revealed today." :| 2.5 kilos of chocolate...... Is it really necessary??…

My future husband (getting married in October) is a fell runner and endurance cyclist. He has won races, done back-to-back mountain marathons (the OMM), and 7 day mountain bike races that start in Germany and end in Italy. I think it's great. We train together a lot. But I also do some of my own things like my strength…

Nope.

It's neither steps/walking nor cycling. Firstly you're not weight-bearing, you're sitting! But it's nothing like cycling either. I'm at a loss what on earth you would log that as. The only suggestion I could think of is to get a HRM, get the proper calorie burn data and create your own entry. Edit: quoting from a study...…

Do I assume correctly that we are not talking about a proper recumbent bike, but we're talking about one of these arrangements???

I log my steps for motivation but not for re-eating.

If a friend of mine is anything to go by, they must be doing exceedingly well from people not succeeding. She's been back and forth for years. She either never loses or when she does she never learns to maintain. I suppose as a dieting "business" repeat customers are your bread and butter. Funny thing is she demonises…

LOL. Yes, why pay if you don't need to?

What's the big deal about family gatherings for you? Only because there is possibly a lot of food available (I'm assuming that's the issue here) doesn't mean you have to eat it all?

At 5'3" you're not that short, so to take off another 15lb off your current 119lb would bring you to 104lb. I reckon your body will fight you tooth and nail, so you better learn to be patient. Or maybe realise you don't need to lose another 15lb and go for some recomp instead.
